Welcome

You’re invited into the light!
Jesus Christ is the Light of the World, and there’s no better time to see that light shine
than during the season of Advent leading to Christmas. Christmas is about lights, right?
On the Sundays preceding this holiday, we’re going to focus on the ways in which Christ
shines through the darkness of the world to reach us, to enlighten us, to heal us, and to
point us toward the glory that awaits us beyond our ordinary cares and our deepest wor-
ries.
The keynote of our worship series “Lights” is from Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine, for your light
has come.” As you join us in worship, be aware that we are asking you to shine like a
light, too.
You’re welcome here.

Small Groups

Sundays: Friends in Faith

10:15am · Adult Flex
Led by Bill Johnson
What do you know about how we received the Bible? Would you like to
know more about how it came down through the centuries to us?
The Bible is the source of our understanding about our Christian faith.
This series, How the Bible Came to Be, will provide you with a back-
ground and appreciation of the importance of this great book. Led by
Bill Johnson in the Adult Flex room.

Sundays: Sunday Small Group

10:15am · Room 202
Led by Chris Richter

Tales from the Madhouse – This series imagines discussions with minor characters
in the New Testament: people who encountered Jesus, had the opportunity to be
transformed through him, and – for their own reasons – chose to pass. More broadly,
these vignettes will allow us to explore those things in our own lives, world, and
selves that can keep us from embracing the life God has set aside for us.

will NOT meet December 23 or December 30
Join us for dinner and study.
Max Lucado loves Christmas. Let the sleigh bells ring. Let the carolers sing. The more
Santas the merrier. The more trees the better.
He loves it because somewhere someone will ask the Christmas questions: What’s the big
deal about the baby in the manger? Who was he? What does his birth have to do with
me?
And the answers he’s found give us all hope. God knows what it’s like to be a human.
When we talk to him about deadlines or long lines or tough times, he understands. He’s
been there. He’s been here. Because of Bethlehem, we have a friend in heaven.

Tuesday Group

Led by Pastor Jason Duley
10:00am - Lansdowne Woods
7:00pm - Ashby Ponds
Join Pastor Jason each Tuesday this fall ....
Genesis - Not simply the first book of the Bible, this
study will explore the family tree of our faith! Some of
the most amazing characters, and some of the most
significant lessons of belief have their roots in these
powerful stories.

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional
opportunities for people to grow in faith. We strive to
prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship
with God. Our greatest tool for growth is the small
group, where people come together to study the
word and build understanding, faith, and strong
relationships. Our small groups are open to everyone
at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to
see if a group is the right fit for you.

Women’s Wednesday Morning Study

Led by Emilie Beckelhimer
9:30am - Adult Flex - Ends Dec. 4
A new study will begin January 8.
From his beginnings as a humble carpenter to his all-important
role as the earthly father of Jesus Christ, Joseph’s place in the
nativity story is sometimes overlooked but contains valuable
lessons for all of us. Join Adam Hamilton as he examines
Christmas through the eyes of Joseph. Absent from much of the
biblical narrative, Joseph never spoke a word, but his courageous
actions were crucial to the birth of Christ and God’s salvation plan
for humanity.

Son-Rise Thursday Morning Study

6:30am We meet every Thursday morning at 6:30am
Newcomers are welcome. Contact: [email protected].

Location: The Holiday Inn: 45425 Holiday Drive, Sterling, VA 20166

Do you find it hard to believe that the One who made everything
keeps your name on His heart and on His lips? Did you realize
that your name is written on the hand of God (Is. 49:16)? Perhaps
you’ve never seen your name honored. And you can’t remember
when you heard it spoken with kindness. In this book, Lucado offers the inspiration
to believe that God has already bought the ticket-with your name on it.
Come join other Galilee members as we read and discuss this book on Thursday
mornings.

Thursday Morning Sisters in Christ Study Group

Led by Nancy Epperson
10:00am - Adult Flex
1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month - Thru Dec. 5 A new study will begin in Jan.
Thru December 5 we will study John Ortberg’s “Soul Keeping -
Caring for The Most Important Part of You”.
Anxiety. Depression. Fear. Loneliness. These are all symptoms of a soul that has lost
touch with its source of life. Like a flower snipped from the vine, the soul that is not
turned toward God can only wither away.
In Soul Keeping, bestselling author John Ortberg sheds light on the most overlooked,
underrated, and least-understood part of your being. With a workable and relevant
approach, he shows how living the “with God” life isn’t just a good idea--it’s the
only way to find lasting peace and satisfaction.

Thursdays: Bread & Wine Small Group

Small Group will meet Dec. 5, 19
Led by Heather Cox

This small group is limited to 6 participants. If interested please email:

perfect house or a perfect meal. It’s just about being together. Join us as we read
Bread and Wine: A Love Letter to Life Around the Table with Recipes and together
create the recipes included with the devotionals.

Care Receivers Share How Their Stephen
Ministers Made a Difference

Although my needs changed as I went from wife to caregiver to widow, my
Stephen Minister’s love and support remained a constant. She was there at
every stage of my journey, helping me through some of the most difficult
moments of my life—so I could begin to heal. - Susan
My Stephen Minister was a consistent presence walking with me throughout my
divorce. He would always show up, and most importantly, he refused to give up

on me. I’ll forever be grateful for the way he changed my life. - James

My Stephen Minister loves me, listens to me, cares for me, prays for me,
supports me, and gives me a safe, confidential relationship where I can totally
share my heart. No matter how much I have to unload on her, she listens to
whatever is going on. - Celeste

I needed to know that there was one person in the world who knew the
good, the bad, and the ugly about me - and still cared for me. Experiencing
that through my Stephen Minister was a tangible expression of God’s love. It

changed my life. - Julia
These examples come from Stephen Ministries in St. Louis.
They are not part of Galilee. If you feel that you would like a
Stephen Minister to walk with you through whatever you are
facing, please email: [email protected]. or call
the church office, 703-430-2203.

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
At Galilee, we talk about “ordinary people” and “extraordinary
purpose.” That’s because we believe we’re all just regular people
called to do something beyond the norm. For instance, I’m an
ordinary person—my extraordinary purpose is to shepherd
people in faith, hope, and love.
Everyone has an extraordinary purpose that some time spent in relationship with God
and others can help reveal. I am here to help you discover your extraordinary purpose
and connect your gifts with that purpose.
I invite you to connect with me at Galilee.
[email protected]

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
