Welcome

Hello and welcome to Galilee. In February, we enter a season of faith known as Lent. This
period begins on Ash Wednesday (February 14) and goes through Easter (April 1), to
include the celebration of Holy Week.
Traditionally, Lent is a time of intentional spiritual growth. We may give something up
(a habit or a food) or do something extra (special prayer or a new volunteer role). Either
way, we meaningfully acknowledge the claims that God has on our life, and this enriches
our spirit.
As a church community, we will focus our spiritual energies through a Lenten worship
and study series called “Moses,” about the prophet who is our great forerunner in faith.
My sermons will be on the theme of Moses—and you won’t just hear from me. All three
of your pastors will have the opportunity of preaching at Galilee and at our Lansdowne
Woods Chapel.
I want to invite you to go deeper by joining a “Moses” small group, like the one that will
be led by Pam Bentley, Director of Youth and Family Ministries, at the 10:15 Grow Hour
on Sundays during Lent. You can also join Matt Sergent, Associate Pastor, for a “Moses”
small group on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.
Finally, I’d love to see you mid-week. Every Wednesday at noon during Lent, we’ll hold a
short “Midpoint” service with Holy Communion in Galilee’s sanctuary. At the midpoint of
the week, it’s a blessing to gather and seek the Lord in a simple service that focuses on
prayer and sacrament.
Please join us!

Children’s Ministry

“Jesus loves everyone” is the sweetest news we will ever share. And since sweets are a
HUGE part of this month—with all of the heart-shaped cookies and candy hearts—Chil-
dren’s Ministry’s theme for February is SWEET SHOP! Get your sweet tooth (and your
heart!) ready for a super sweet month filled with the good news that JESUS LOVES
EVERYONE! It’s going to be one, huge, sugar overload, not because of candy, but because
Jesus’ love is just that big and sweet!

Scripture Bible Story Story Focus
Week ONE John 4:1-30
Week TWO Luke 19:1-10 Woman at the Well Jesus loves everyone.
Week THREE John 8:2-11
Week FOUR John 21:15-17 Zacchaeus Jesus loves us no matter what.

The Unloved Woman Jesus loves us all the time.

Sundays: Friends in Faith

10:15am · Adult Flex
Led by Bill Johnson

With the coming of the new year the Friends in Faith class began
a study of the Gospel according to Luke, from the perspective of
looking “from the outside in.” Unlike the other Gospels, Luke
has also contributed another most important book to the New
Testament, the Acts of the Apostles, without which we would be
missing the background of the early church. The class will
emphasize a close reading of the biblical text and the associated explanatory
commentary, a brief video presentation by Dr. Don Carson and time for class discussion.

Sundays: Today’s Group Today’s
Groups

“Moses: In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet” based on Adam
Hamilton’s Book. “It doesn’t get much more dramatic: rescued baby, life in the
courts of Pharaoh, parting the Red Sea, leading his people out of Egypt…Moses’
life was one challenge after the next, but although he resisted God’s calling,
by the end of his life he successfully fulfilled the role he was given.” Moses’
journey of faith mirrors Jesus’ journey as well as ours!

Led by Kristen Jenkins

“FINDING FREEDOM IN PANAMA is the true account of the
experiences of an American pastor in the prisons of Panama.
William (Bill) Wilbur left the familiar surroundings of a small
town in upstate New York to take his wife and five year old twins
to pastor an English speaking congregation right on the Panama Canal. He
was soon invited to start visiting the prisoners in the nearby Canal Zone
Penitentiary which brought him face to face with many old and some new
fears. This caused him to face a barrier in his life and ministry, that once it
was crossed led to amazing experiences in the prisons, to see God make
something good come out of something bad. This book is set in the era of
tough times under dictator General Manuel Noriega and the invasion by
the U.S. troops on December 20, 1989.” The author is a classmate of Galilee
member, Jim Caroll.

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
My name is Jason Duley – it’s great to meet you!
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one
that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person an
extraordinary purpose.
There was a time when I was living less purposefully, following
my own agenda. God called me into ministry in order to serve
the needs of others. And guess what? Serving God and helping
people has become the most fulfilling life I can imagine.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping
people connect with God, with one another, and with their life’s
purpose.
I invite you to connect with Galilee and to connect with me. Hit
me on social media (facebook.com/jason.duley.944) or simply
pick up the phone and call.
[email protected]

REV. MAT THEW SERGENT - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
My call to ministry began early in life. I’m a pastor’s son, after all.
But it had to wait as I spent twenty years in law enforcement,
rising to Police Captain. In my career, I dealt with many senseless
and violent crimes. I found myself reaching out to victims, trying
to help them make sense out of horrible situations. In essence,
I was being the hands and feet of Christ even in my role as a
police officer. I also saw the results, in many offenders, of living
a life outside the love of God. There were times when I was
reaching out to minister to them as well.
I am grateful now to be working as a pastor at Galilee and the
Chapel at Lansdowne Woods. I believe my greatest usefulness
as a minister is my witness and love for the Good News of the
Gospel. I love to tell the story of Christ’s love for us all, just as my
elders told me when I was young.
