Welcome

I LOVE MY CHURCH

Love is in the air this spring. We’re reading the “love letters” of 1 John and we’re also
receiving love letters from our congregation.
We’ve been asking, “Why do you love your church?” Galilee member Sandy Silzer
answered this way:
Hi! I wanted to say why I love my church! I have been coming to Galilee since March 2015.
I was one of those people who became interested in Galilee from the thought-provoking
signs on Route 7. I felt welcomed the first day I attended and my hope is to make others
feel welcome. I like the motto of our church, which is “ordinary people with extraordinary
purpose” (making Christ known). I like that Galilee is the kind of church that you can attend
and not feel judged because you don’t have it all together. I can tell that others at Galilee are
sincerely seeking God. I really enjoy the sermons. The breakthrough for me has also been the
“Grow Hour.” Finally, I am sometimes overwhelmed by the needs around me, but Backpack
Buddies and Loudoun Hunger Relief have given me concrete ways to give back to the
community.
With love,
Sandy

along rapidly and focuses on the major topics and key people of
the Old Testament.

Thursday Morning Sisters in Christ Study Group

Led by Nancy Epperson & Peggy Whale
9:30am - Adult Flex

This exciting series brings readers face-to-face with the truth of
God’s precepts, promises, and purposes--in just minutes a day. With
this inductive study of Proverbs readers will discover God’s truth and
wisdom for everyday circumstances. As they learn to observe, interpret,
and apply the text themselves, readers will come to a fresh understanding of God’s
guidance and His interest in their lives.

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional opportunities for people to grow in faith.
We strive to prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship with God. Our greatest
tool for growth is the small group, where people come together to study the word and
build understanding, faith, and strong relationships. Our small groups are open to
everyone at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to see if a group is the right
fit for you.

Next Level Innovations is improving our church.
Innovation #1 - Space. The Trustees are gathering information on
structure and ministry needs as we seek to improve our facilities.
Innovation #2- Grow. Small groups leader Lori O’Connell is
developing new groups, like the Book Club and women’s yoga
class, while managing changes to the existing Grow Hour.
Innovation #3 - Serve. The Serve team met in early April to determine steps for
strengthening partnerships with schools.
Innovation #4 - Worship. The goal is to create greater clarity, beauty, and excellence in
worship. Our team is discerning the path toward that goal.
Innovation #5 - Generosity. The finance team works with NLI teams to support their
needs, while wisely managing Galilee’s resources.
Communicating updates is important. A detailed NLI page will appear on the Galilee
website. A physical bulletin board will update those not online. Questions about NLI,
including volunteering, should go to [email protected].
Please continue to pray for our church as we move forward.

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one
that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person an
extraordinary purpose.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping people
connect with God, with one another, and with their life’s purpose.
I invite you to connect with Galilee and to connect with me. Hit me
on social media (facebook.com/jason.duley.944) or simply pick up
the phone and call.
[email protected]

REV. MAT THEW SERGENT - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
My call to ministry had to wait as I spent twenty years in law enforce-
ment, rising to Police Captain. I found myself reaching out to victims,
trying to help them make sense out of horrible situations. In essence,
I was being the hands and feet of Christ even in my role as a police
officer. I also saw the results, in many offenders, of living a life outside
the love of God. There were times when I was reaching out to minister
to them as well.
I am grateful now to be working as a pastor at Galilee and the Chapel
at Lansdowne Woods. I believe my greatest usefulness as a minister is
my witness and love for the Good News of the Gospel.
[email protected]

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
