Welcome

Thank you for stepping through our door.
Galilee is a place where you can progress in your walk of faith by honoring and serving
God through our missions and ministries. If you’re here, it’s because you’ve taken a first
step in that walk. Maybe you’ve taken many.
The thing I like about “steps” is that the word denotes ongoing action. If you take one
step, the most natural thing in the world is to take a second. Soon it requires as much
effort to stop as to keep going. That’s inertia—an object in motion tends to remain in
motion.
This month our worship series “Steps” looks at how we can create this driving force in
our lives, how we can energize all our efforts with generosity.
I have seen the difference generosity makes in lives. It deepens our relationship with
God, it enriches loving relationships with others, it helps us grow into our best version of
ourselves.
Are you ready to step up to that?

Pastor Jason

Sundays: Friends in Faith

10:15am · Adult Flex
Led by Bill Johnson
What do you know about how we received the Bible? Would you like to
know more about how it came down through the centuries to us?
The Bible is the source of our understanding about our Christian faith.
This series, How the Bible Came to Be, will provide you with a back-
ground and appreciation of the importance of this great book. Led by
Bill Johnson in the Adult Flex room.

Sundays: Sunday Small Group

10:15am · Room 202
Led by Chris Richter

Tales from the Madhouse – This series imagines discussions with minor characters
in the New Testament: people who encountered Jesus, had the opportunity to be
transformed through him, and – for their own reasons – chose to pass. More broadly,
these vignettes will allow us to explore those things in our own lives, world, and
selves that can keep us from embracing the life God has set aside for us.

Me, Myself, and Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover - Bible Study Book by Jennifer Rothschild
provides a personal study experience five days a week plus viewer guides for the group
video sessions of this women’s Bible study that encourages them to clean out the junk in
their minds and replace hidden negative thoughts with positive truths from God’s word.
Words are powerful. Especially the words women speak to themselves. All too often, what
they say to themselves when they lie in bed at night or look in the mirror in the morning
is not even close to the words God wants them to speak to their souls. According to
Rothschild, what we think about often has a ripple effect on nearly every area of our lives.

Tuesday Group

Led by Pastor Jason Duley
7:00pm - Adult Flex
Join Pastor Jason each Tuesday this fall ....
Genesis - Not simply the first book of the Bible, this
study will explore the family tree of our faith! Some of
the most amazing characters, and some of the most
significant lessons of belief have their roots in these
powerful stories.

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional
opportunities for people to grow in faith. We strive to
prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship
with God. Our greatest tool for growth is the small
group, where people come together to study the
word and build understanding, faith, and strong
relationships. Our small groups are open to everyone
at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to
see if a group is the right fit for you.

Women’s Wednesday Morning Study

Led by Emilie Beckelhimer
9:30am - Adult Flex
From his beginnings as a humble carpenter to his all-important
role as the earthly father of Jesus Christ, Joseph’s place in the
nativity story is sometimes overlooked but contains valuable
lessons for all of us. Join Adam Hamilton as he examines
Christmas through the eyes of Joseph. Absent from much of the
biblical narrative, Joseph never spoke a word, but his courageous
actions were crucial to the birth of Christ and God’s salvation plan
for humanity.

Newcomers are welcome. Contact: [email protected].

Location: The Holiday Inn: 45425 Holiday Drive, Sterling, VA 20166

Do you find it hard to believe that the One who made everything
keeps your name on His heart and on His lips? Did you realize
that your name is written on the hand of God (Is. 49:16)? Perhaps
you’ve never seen your name honored. And you can’t remember
when you heard it spoken with kindness. In this book, Lucado offers the inspiration
to believe that God has already bought the ticket-with your name on it.
Come join other Galilee members as we read and discuss this book on Thursday
mornings.

Led by Nancy Epperson
10:00am - Adult Flex
1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month
September-November we will study John Ortberg’s “Soul Keeping
- Caring for The Most Important Part of You”.
Anxiety. Depression. Fear. Loneliness. These are all symptoms of a
soul that has lost touch with its source of life. Like a flower snipped from the vine,
the soul that is not turned toward God can only wither away.
In Soul Keeping, bestselling author John Ortberg sheds light on the most overlooked,
underrated, and least-understood part of your being. With a workable and relevant
approach, he shows how living the “with God” life isn’t just a good idea--it’s the
only way to find lasting peace and satisfaction.

Thursdays: Bread & Wine Small Group

Answers to the Most Frequent
Questions about Stephen Ministry®

• What are Stephen Ministers?
Stephen Ministers are laypeople trained to provide one-to-one, Christ-centered
care. They have a compassionate heart for those who are hurting, and they’re
equipped with caring ministry skills by their congregation’s Stephen Leaders. A
Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time and meets with that
person once a week to listen, care, pray, encourage, and offer emotional and
spiritual support.

• In what types of situations do Stephen Ministers provide care?
Stephen Ministers provide care to individuals facing difficult times in life—grief,
cancer, divorce, financial difficulties, hospitalization, chronic illness, job loss,
disability, loneliness, a spiritual crisis, or other life struggles.

• How does Stephen Ministry benefit pastors?
Stephen Ministry supports pastors by deepening, expanding, and extending
the caregiving capacity of their congregations. A team of Stephen Ministers,
together with a pastor, can provide ongoing care for more people than the
pastor could provide alone. This also frees pastors to invest more time in other
important ministry areas.

• Do Stephen Ministers care for people outside their congregation?
Yes. Stephen Ministers often provide care for people in the broader community,
enhancing and expanding a congregation’s outreach in a powerful way.

ALTAR GUILD

Did you know that Galilee has an army? It is a silent army and a busy one. It’s a
volunteer army that we call the Altar Guild. They make our sanctuary a great place
to worship God.
The Altar Guild raises wall banners and paraments on the altar to fit the season and
the scripture. They prepare communion and do the clean up afterwards. They water
plants and keep the pews tidy and stocked with tissues, envelopes, giving cards,
pencils, and the all-important Scribble Sheets for Little Methodists.
The Altar Guild also uses natural beauty to glorify God by arranging for flowers on
Sunday mornings. If you would like to give flowers for a birthday, anniversary, special
memory, graduation, birth of a child, or just to honor God,
the Altar Guild can do that. The cost is $35 for a regular
arrangement. Special arrangements may be more. Sign up on
the Connection Card or on the flower calendar located in the
lobby on the column closest to the office. Leave your phone
number and you will be called about the color of flowers you
would like.

For more information about the Altar Guild, you can email:
[email protected].

Galilee has gone bananas!! Through the generosity of the congregation and a
donation of boxes of bananas from The Race For Recovery, Galilee donated 427
pounds of produce to Loudoun Hunger Relief in September! In the words of Jennifer
Montgomery from LHR....”this is awesome!” Thank you!
Loudoun Hunger Relief provided over 1 million pounds of food last year to those in
our community that are food insecure. LHR is grateful for the help they received
from Galilee, especially the fresh produce which now comprises 30% of food
provided, and is helping to increase the health and wellness of the families they
serve. If you would like to join the LHR delivery team contact Kathi Miller at

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
At Galilee, we talk about “ordinary people” and “extraordinary
purpose.” That’s because we believe we’re all just regular people
called to do something beyond the norm. For instance, I’m an
ordinary person—my extraordinary purpose is to shepherd
people in faith, hope, and love.
Everyone has an extraordinary purpose that some time spent in relationship with God
and others can help reveal. I am here to help you discover your extraordinary purpose
and connect your gifts with that purpose.
I invite you to connect with me at Galilee.
[email protected]

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
