All-Star Rosters: 1992 to 2016

In 1992, the Texas Judo Inc., All Star Program was created by the Board of Directors
to “encourage TJI members to compete in as many Texas judo tournaments as possi-
ble”. And in return, candidates who achieved All-Star status were to receive All-Star
Awards of either embroidered TJI-logoed backpacks, duffel bags, fleece vests,
warmup or insulated soft-shell jackets. In 2015, for the first time, All-Stars were
awarded sports banners to hang at home or in their dojos.

The All-Star program requires that athletes hold current membership in USA
Judo, be a member of a TJI certified club and earn at least 17 points by placing in Kata
or Shiai divisions (novice divisions are non-pointable) at any of 5 annually designated
All-Star tournaments. Bid and participation fees from these tournaments help fund
the All-Star program.

Every August, previous year’s All Stars are honored in an awards ceremony at
the Mose Woodson Judo Classic in Denton, Texas. Since 1992, Texas Judo has award-
ed over 440 All-Stars. Unfortunately, All Star data is missing for years 1995 to 1998
and year 2001.

Thank you to all participants, parents and coaches who have participated in
the program during its +25 years of existence.

Special thanks to Lynn Thursby, Denton Junior Optimist Judo Club, past TJI All-Star
Chairperson who supplied a portion of the data for this project.

Also, special thanks to Nick Tucker, Denton Junior Optimist Judo Club, past TJI All-
Star Chairman, for his continued support.
