GRATITUDE REPORT
FROM THE
FOUNDATION
Dear Friends of the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation,
What an exciting and eventful year for the Foundation, as well as its supporters and donors. The
support of our many donors and volunteers has reached new levels and it is nearly impossible to
express enough thanks. Together we continue our work towards securing the future of healthcare
on Catalina Island!
In spring of this year, it was announced that the Catalina Island Company would be donating the
land necessary for us to build a new hospital. This donation of 2.5 acres of land will make it possible
for us to secure the future of healthcare on our island for decades to come. The Foundation is now
charged with raising the funds to begin the project and we rely heavily upon you, our partners in
healthcare. The new hospital will provide many additional services not currently offered on our
island, such as chemotherapy for those undergoing cancer treatment who currently have to travel
back and forth to receive such care.
Our 9th annual An Evening with Oscar was a big success, raising almost $125,000. Events like this
do not come easy and its success can be directly attributed to all of those who donated their time
and/or auction items. The annual Avalon Home Tour saw similar success with a record number of
attendees. You will see a new event in years to come, fondly named CATALINAVILLE, which will bring
our fundraising efforts to Descanso Beach with a lovely dinner followed by a private beach concert.
We hope you will continue to support our many fundraising efforts throughout the year.
Please feel free to reach out to me at (310) 510-5160 or at [email protected] to find out
more about the new hospital or how you can make a difference along with us. We appreciate all of
the support you provide to the Foundation and we truly look forward to partnering with you to bring
a new hospital to our island.
Sincerely,
Shannon Hill, Chair

It is with great sadness and regret that the Catalina Island Medical
Center Foundation announces the passing of one of our Board
of Directors, Norris McDonald. Norris was the founder of the
African American Environmentalist Association and the Center for
Environment, Commerce & Energy. He was listed by Ebony Magazine
in 2012 as one of America’s top 100 most influential African
Americans and had received various awards in environmentalism.
Norris joined the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation’s Board
of Directors in July 2018 and was a beloved member of the Catalina
Island community. He was passionate about the future of healthcare
on our island and will be greatly missed.
The Foundation Board members are proud to have had the privilege
of working alongside Norris.
