UPGRADE

of James Kleynhans Bulk Water Supply

Amatola Water has been appointed as the implementing agent for the James Kleynhans Bulk
Water Supply project in Makana Municipality.

The project, estimated at R150 million is funded by the Department of Water & Sanitation
through the Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant (RBIG) programme.

The project will see the James Kleynhans treatment works augmented from 10 mega litres
per day to 20 mega litres per day, in an effort to meet the water demand requirements for
Makana Municipality for 2035, as well as alleviate the water crisis that has affected the area
over the years.

“Construction work is anticipated to commence by end September 2016, with completion for
Phase 1 planned for August 2017, while Phase 2 and Phase 3 & 4 are projected for June and
December 2018, respectively”, says the AW Project Manager, Gopolang Sibanyoni.

THE PROJECT SCOPE ENTAILS:
• A ugmentation of the existing water treatment works from 10Mℓ/d to 20Mℓ/d – Phase 1 and

Phase 2

• Refurbishment / Upgrading of the existing Pumping Main – Phase 3

• Refurbishment / Upgrading of the existing WTW – Phase 4
