Domuschola International School Newsletter

Message from the
Head of School

Angelica R. Fernandez de Castro

Dear Domuschola Community,

A s our 5th graders prepare to present their PYP Exhibition to the community,
we see students implement the action they chose to take in response to their
inquiry.

One group decided to integrate what they learned in their previous unit on
Social Entrepreneurship and had a selling activity to raise funds to support
abused animals through the Philippine Society for Prevention of Animal
Abuse. Another group was inspired by their 4th-grade unit on Notables and
grabbed the opportunity that PYPX offers to promote gender equality. Some
groups used their passion for disseminating information as action.

PYP Exhibition is not only a celebration of learning but also an event that
highlights the importance and impact of giving the students agency.

We would also like to commend our Secondary School students for a smooth
and orderly conduct of online year-end assessments this week. We are
looking forward to administering onsite assessments next week when it
would already be safe to do so. In the meantime, best of luck with your review
and preparation.

Have a restful weekend ahead!

PRIMARY SCHOOL 2

Filipino Connects

The Grade 1 students are currently learning about structures and
buildings around them. In connection with this, they explored the
different traditional houses in the Philippines. When we think about a
traditional Filipino home, the Bahay Kubo usually comes to mind. Apart
from this, they learned about the other Filipino houses like the Igorot’s
house in Ifugao Province, Ivatan’s house in Batanes, and the stilt houses
and houseboats of Badjao in Mindanao. It was very interesting to know
their preferences if ever they have the chance to live in one of these
houses.

As for the language features, the students wrote different adjectives
(pang-uri) to describe their chosen houses.

Furthermore, the students enjoyed learning the Filipino language by
integrating literature into their inquiry. They read a story entitled, “Ang
Bahay na Maraming-maraming Pinto.” The students were able to make
connections and applied their learning through artwork. They were
tasked to create their own door design and be creative and imaginative.
Here are some of their works:

PRIMARY SCHOOL 4

The Kindergarten students, on the other hand, are learning about how
plants sustain life on Earth. As integrated into their Unit of Inquiry, the
students learned about the parts of a plant in the Filipino language. We
also took the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of colors for
vocabulary development.

The Grade 2 students learned about the different names of animals and
their habitats in relation to their Unit of Inquiry on adaptation and
survival.

PRIMARY SCHOOL 5

They also learned a story entitled “Ang Leon at Ang Daga.” By engaging
the students in stories about animals, they will learn how to love and care
about the creatures in our world and that also translates into caring
about others.
