Term 2 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to a new and exciting term. We are extremely
proud of how hard our children have worked during their first
term and we will continue to encourage a positive attitude to
learning throughout the year. As winter fast approaches we
would like to remind parents and carers that our carpark and
surrounding pathways can become extremely slippery. Whilst
our janitor makes every effort to reduce the risk of ice, we
advise you to be cautious when walking or driving through
these areas.

Standards & Quality Report 2018-2019
A copy of our Standards and Quality report can be found on our
school app and on our School Improvement Notice Board in the
school entrance area.

Disney Musicals
We are really excited to announce that we have been
successful in an application to work with the Scottish Opera in a
Disney Musicals Production. This is a 3 year, funded
programme, focusing on P7 children who will be involved in
planning, developing and performing a Disney production. The
programme will begin in November and run until the final

performance in May. Look out for updates over the year on our
School App and Twitter!

Rookie Rockstars
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all children and
parents for supporting our Rookie Rockstars event. It was a joy
to see the enjoyment of all children from P1-P7 and the turnout
of children, parents and staff supporting the evening
performances was incredible. Thank you for your continued
support!

Community Litter pick
We would like to thank Irvine Clean up Crew who supported us
with our Community Litter Pick. We are extremely proud of our
children and families who took part in this in term 1. We aim to
raise children’s awareness of the importance of looking after
our planet as well as developing a sense of pride in their local
community. We hope to build on the good work done in term
1, throughout the year. This term P1a, P3a, P5a and P7a will
have the opportunity to be involved!

Smarties Challenge
This term the parent council are supporting a Smarties
Challenge to raise money for our school fund. Funds raised will
go towards the development of our school garden as well as
Halloween and Christmas parties for the children, activities
such as baking, health week activities and various events
throughout the year. Please look out for the letter in your
child’s schoolbag over the next couple of weeks. We are
extremely grateful of your continued support.

Parental Involvement
Thank you to all parents/carers for your support and
involvement in our Meet the Teacher event at the beginning of
the year. We had a super turnout and evaluations were
extremely positive. There will be further opportunities for
parental involvement over the course of the year. You can find
details of these on our school app.

Halloween Parties
This year, P1-P7 Halloween parties will take place during the
school day on Friday 1st November. The Early Years Class party
will take place on Tuesday 29th October. Children may dress up
if they wish, however we ask that they have appropriate
footwear and outdoor jackets for playtime and lunchtime.

Christmas Fayre
Our Christmas Fayre will be held on Wednesday 11th December.
This has always been an enormous success due to the support
we receive from parents and carers, our local community and
small businesses. If you are able to support us by donating
raffle prizes, brick-a-brac, home baking or by helping us out on
the night, please speak to a member of staff. Thank you!

Dates for Your Diary
Please note all diary dates are available on the Lawthorn
Primary School App.

School Absence
Evidence tells us that good attendance in school is fundamental
in allowing pupils to access a wide range of opportunities in
order that they reach their full potential. We ask all

parents/carers to inform us if your child is unable to attend
school. If we do not hear from you or are unable to contact
you, we will follow North Ayrshire Guidelines for children
missing in education. If a child’s attendance dips below 90%,
we will contact parents/carers to raise our concerns and discuss
barriers to good attendance. Continued poor attendance may
lead to referrals to the Children’s Reporter.

In addition, poor timekeeping can also have an impact on your
child’s education. If your child is regularly late into school, will
also contact you to discuss how this could be improved.

Best Wishes,
Miss Grossart (Head Teacher)
