‘Nurturing, inspiring and supporting our children to achieve their
potential’
Dear Parents/Carers,
As we approach the end of the school year, I would like to extend a
huge thank you for your continued support. On behalf of all the staff,
we would like to say goodbye and good luck to all our Primary 7 pupils
as they move onto secondary school. We are extremely proud of their
achievements and we wish them every success in the future.
Staffing
There has been a restructure in school management teams throughout
North Ayrshire. Our entitlement at Lawthorn Primary school is one
Head Teacher, two Depute Head Teachers and one Principal Teacher.
As a result, we have recently interviewed for a DHT post and I would
like to congratulate Mrs. McMillan who was the successful candidate.
In 2019-2020, our management structure will be as follows:
Head Teacher: Miss S. Grossart
Depute Head Teacher: Mrs. C. Hyndman
Depute Head Teacher: Mrs. M. McMillan
Principal Teacher: Mr. P. Flanagan
Classes for next session
The children have all had an opportunity to meet their class teachers
for next session on Bump Up afternoon. All children should have
received a letter in their schoolbags to inform you of this. The school
leadership team worked closely with class teachers to endeavour to
meet the needs of all children and families in this process, however I
hope you understand that it would be physically impossible to meet the
requests of every individual parent in regards to class preferences.
Class teachers for next session will be as follows:
Primary 1A: Mrs Dorigo Primary 1B: Mrs Walker
Primary 2A: Mrs McGregor Primary 2B: Miss Bell/Miss Godfrey (Fri)
Primary 3A: Mrs P. Wilson Primary 3B: Miss Bunce
Primary 4A: Miss Steadman Primary 4B: Mrs Brown/Miss Rugg (Wed)
Primary 5A: Mrs Montgomery Primary 5B: Mrs E. Wilson
Primary 6A: Mrs Kerr/Mrs Reid Primary 6B: Mrs Purdie
Primary 7A: Miss Rugg/Mrs Garman Primary 7B: Mrs McLachlan/ Mr Flanagan
P7 Leavers Jumpers
Thank you to Josh for organising the P7 leavers jumpers this
year. He did an amazing job and I am sure you will agree that
they look fabulous!
Ayrshire Chess Competition
Congratulations to Rohan, Charlie, Harry and Lewis who represented
Lawthorn exceptionally well at the Ayrshire Chess Competition and
managed to secure first place.
Rights Respecting Schools
I am delighted to tell you that we have achieved our Silver Rights
Respecting Schools Award. A special thank you to Mrs Hyndman and
the Rights Respecting Schools Community Group for leading us on this
journey.
Summer Fayre
Thank you to our Parent Council who, once again, organised a hugely
successful Summer Fayre. There is a significant amount of time and
work involved in the planning of this and their dedication and
commitment to the school is greatly appreciated. Despite the weather,
they raised a fantastic £1550. Thank you to everyone who came along
to support on the night.
EYC Graduation
Our EYC Graduation took place on Tuesday 25th June and was an
enormous success. We have been amazed at the children’s progress
this year and cannot wait for them to join us in Primary 1 in August.
Prize Giving
Thank you to all parents and carers who managed to come
along to our annual Prize Giving on Wednesday 26th June.
Congratulations to all children who won awards on the
day. We are really proud of your achievements!
School Holidays and In-service Days 2019-2020
Following a recent agreement with Scottish Ministers, two additional
in-service days have been agreed for session 2019-2020. These
additional in-service days are to support professional learning in
accordance with the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers
(SNCT) Pay Agreement. The two additional in-service days will be
Friday 20th September 2019 and Friday 3rd April 2020. The full list of in-
service days and holidays is available on our school app. (Please note
that the additional inservice days do not apply to our Early Years Class.
This service will run as normal on these dates).
A date for your diary
We understand that many of our parents and carers have very busy
diaries, and so would like to give you advanced notice of a
Meet the Teacher evening on Tuesday 27th August 2019 from 6pm –
7pm. This is an informal opportunity for you to come along and meet
your child’s class teacher and discover some of the things they will be
learning throughout the year. Brian Donnelly will also conduct
15minute workshops for parents who would like to learn more about
our new Anti-Bullying Policy.

You should have received a letter in your child’s schoolbag informing
you of the alteration of school hours for next session. Please note, our
