การเปรียบเทียบคำคุณศัพท์และคำกริยาวิเศษณ์
มีทั้งหมด 3 ระดับ ได้แก่

1. Positive ขั้นธรรมดา
2. Comparative ขั้นกว่า
3. Superlative ขั้นสูงสุด

1.Positive การเปรียบเทียบขั้นเท่ากัน

หรือในบางครั้งเรียกว่าขั้นปกติ จะเปรียบเทียบสองสิ่งที่มีอะไรเหมือนกัน เท่ากัน โดยใช้
as…….as เช่น

A cat is as big as a dog.
A man is as tall as a woman.
This car is as expensive as that car

2. Comparative การเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่า

เป็นการเปรียบเทียบสิ่งสองสิ่งว่าสิ่งไหนสูง ต่ำ สั้น เล็ก ยาว ใหญ่ กว่ากัน เช่น

สรุปโครงสร้างประโยค แบ่งเป็น 2 กรณี
1. กรณีที่มีเพียง 1 พยางค์และตัวสะกดเดียว ให้เติม –er เข้าไปได้เลย เช่น
big เป็น bigger
small เป็น smaller
ตัวอย่าง Tom is taller than Peter.

2. กรณีที่มี 2 พยางค์ขึ้นไป ให้เติม more + adj./adv. + than เช่น
important เป็น more important than
expensive เป็น more expensive than
ตัวอย่าง Tom is more handsome than Peter.

3. Superlative การเปรียบเทียบขั้นสูงสุด

เป็นการเปรียบเทียบสิ่งของตั้งแต่ 3 สิ่งขึ้นไป ว่ามีสิ่งหนึ่งที่สูง ต่ำ ใหญ่ เล็ก กว่าเพื่อน

สรุปโครงสร้างประโยค แบ่งเป็น 2 กรณี ดังนี้
1. กรณีที่มีเพียง 1 พยางค์และตัวสะกดเดียว ให้เติม the นำหน้า แล้วตามด้วย adj./adv. ที่เติม –est เช่น
short เป็น the shortest
cheap เป็น the cheapest
ตัวอย่าง John is the shortest boy in his class.

2. กรณีที่มี 2 พยางค์ขึ้นไป ให้เติม the most + adj. / adv. เช่น
dangerous เป็น the most dangerous
difficult เป็น the most difficult
ตัวอย่าง John is the most handsome boy in his class.

กฎการทำ adjective ให้เป็นขั้นกว่าและขั้นสูงสุด

1. คำพยางค์เดียว เติม –er (ขั้นกว่า) หรือ –est (ขั้นสูงสุด) ท้ายคำ
เช่น short shorter shortest
young younger youngest

2. คำพยางค์เดียวที่มีสระเสียงสั้น 1 ตัว ตัวสะกด 1 ตัว ให้เติมตัวสะกดอีก 1 ตัวก่อน
เช่น big bigger biggest
thin thinner thinnest

3. คำ 2 พยางค์ที่ลงท้าย –er / -le / -ow / -y (แต่ถ้าลงท้ายด้วย –y เปลี่ยน –y เป็น i ด้วย)
เช่น happy happier happiest
simple simpler simplest

4. คำ 2 พยางค์ขึ้นไป ให้เติม more (ขั้นกว่า) หรือ most (ขั้นสูงสุด) หน้าคำ
เช่น useful more useful most useful
quickly more quickly most quickly

5. คำพิเศษที่เปลี่ยนรูป better the best
เช่น good worse the worst
less the least
bad
little

6. คำอื่น ๆ ที่ไม่อยู่ในกฎ ให้เติม more (ขั้นกว่า) หรือ most (ขั้นสูงสุด) หน้าคำ
