4 SARANAC LAKE AREA VISITOR GUIDE • 2021
When you drive into Saranac Lake, you’ll see a welcome absence of big city
livin’. We don’t have a shopping mall or stoplights at every intersection.
What we have is a bright, thriving community—full of small, family-owned
businesses and colorful locals. People who live here know that the best place to get
ice cream is a few miles out of town, that one of the best hikes in the Adirondacks
is within walking distance of your hotel, and that no, the lake abutting town is not
the actual Saranac Lake.
Things move a little differently here; like the Saranac River that runs through
town, life in Saranac Lake is purposeful but meandering. A simple walk to the
grocery store often leads to catching up with a neighbor or just wandering around
the side streets looking at all the beautiful old houses, fresh drip coffee in hand. If
you made a pro/con list for Saranac Lake, the only thing on the con side would be
that there’s not enough hours in the day to truly experience it all.

Common misconception: it's hard to find your way to the Adirondacks. It’s not! In fact, it's really easy (and we think) half
the fun in visiting. Whether through the Adirondack Regional Airport or a casual “Sunday Drive,” part of your Adirondack
adventure is the journey. So gas up that family-truckster or hop on a flight, or you might just miss out. Fun fact, the Adirondack
Regional Airport has the longest runway in the Adirondacks.
