Habia China begins translations

Habia China is hard at work translating Habia
brochures and documentation into Chinese for local
businesses and learners. Habia China has translated
the Habia name phonetically to be pronounced
‘Ha-bi-ah’ as three Chinese characters. This localisa-
tion is very important for Chinese people as well as
showing the globalization of the Habia brand.
The translation of the brochures and standards is an
ongoing project, but is expected to be completed in
time for exams due in early 2009.

Simon Barradell, Habia’s International Manager, said,
‘This is a huge step both for us and Habia China in
explaining what we do, as it will raise our profile in
China and will make the Chinese hair and beauty
industry much more aware of the HIQs.’

September 2008 saw the rollout of the first five diplomas and in 2009 an additional five will be introduced, one of which
is the Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies. As the sector prepares for the launch, Yvonne Malpass, head of school for
hair and beauty studies at Solihull College explores challenges she anticipates the Diploma will generate, and discusses
how she is preparing to ensure as unproblematic an introduction as possible. Solihull College is the lead institution in a

Catherine Iredale, Professional Beauty’s Director, explains,
“The industry loves Professional Beauty, but the core trade
audience has declined in recent years. And the main reason
is the visitor experience: beauty trade professionals were
struggling through aisles packed with non-trade visitors and
couldn’t get on stands. We asked this group what they
wanted and the message coming back is clear - more time
with exhibitors, less crowding, top-class education and a visitor
