A. Reading
Before Reading, read the sentence below to get the main idea.

Many media streamers can help you connect your TV.

How to Cut the (Cable) Cord

There are many ways to watch online content on your TV. Your television itself might
have apps, or you might have a Blu-ray player or game system connected with built-in streaming
services. If neither case applies, or if your TV, Blu-ray player, or game system doesn't have the
exact media features you want, you can get a dedicated media streaming hub. Most media
streamers allow you to set up your TV with any online or local media streaming services you need
for well under $100. [1]

Among the media streamers currently available, five platforms stand out: Amazon Fire TV,
Android TV, Apple TV, Google Cast, and Roku. All of these platforms except Google Cast have
on-screen menu systems and dedicated remotes so you can view whatever you want from the
couch, without a mobile device to control everything. Google Cast is a bit different, as it relies on
a PC, smartphone, or tablet, with Cast-compatible apps to stream content. No matter which you
choose, they each give you access to many of the most popular music and video streaming services
available.[2]

Resolution is another big factor to consider. All of the platforms mentioned have options for
ultra-high-definition (4K) and HDR content. In the list above you'll find the top-rated media
streamers we've tested. Below is a closer looking at the top media streaming platforms? Google
Cast is one of ex cutting age devices of new media.[3]

Google Cast is the least visually obtrusive and physically complicated media streaming
platform; you take a Chromecast, plug it into a power source, plug it into your TV or sound
system, and control everything through your mobile device. There are no remotes, no on-screen
interfaces, and no app stores to separately navigate. You just connect your Chromecast to your
home network and stream whatever you're watching (from a Google Cast-compatible app, of
which there are many) on your smartphone or tablet.[4]

It's easy to use and economical. And Chromecast devices connect with Google Assistant
in Google Home speakers, so you can issue voice commands for what you want to watch, and even
see supplemental information related to voice searches (such as your Google Calendar).[5] See

Top 10 Best Jobs in the Media Industry
Written by JEN HUBLEY LUCKWALDT (2019)

College students, want to give your parents a scare? Tell them you’re thinking of going
into a career in media. Inundated with stories about the decline of the newspaper and magazine
industry, most parents would probably prefer that their kids choose just about any other
occupation.

But not all media jobs require a press pass. These emerging (or still relevant!) media jobs
offer a thriving occupational outlook and a decent salary.
1. Interpreter/Translator

Formal education is less important than language skills for this job; interpreters and
translators need to have native-level proficiency in both languages, the language of the original
text or speech, and the language of the finished product. Translators, who work with the written
word, must also have an expert-level knowledge of grammar and style in both languages.
2. Film/Video Editor

The explosion of online and mobile video content had led to a corresponding
increase in demand for film and video editors, who take raw footage and transform it into
a finished product. Editors must be adept at using film editing software programs and
generally have a degree related to film or broadcasting.
3. Technical Writer

Technical writers create everything from instruction manuals to articles to
documentation, and tend to work in STEM-related industries. To do this job, you'll need a
bachelor's degree and experience with a technical subject, as well as the ability to explain
complex concepts to a variety of different audiences and hit deadlines.

4. Video Producer

If you spend any time online, you've probably noticed that video is taking over
your favorite sites. Someone has to create those eye-catching, meme-inspiring video

ภาษาองั กฤษสาหรบั งานดา้ นนิเทศศาสตร ์ 14

15

moments, and that person is a video producer. As the internet video boom continues,
expect to see more of these jobs on the horizon.
5. Public Relations Specialist

If you have fantastic communication skills and are comfortable talking up the
merits of your favorite brand or product, a career in PR might be the perfect fit for you.
PR specialists typically work for advertising agencies, public relations firms, or large
companies with in-house PR teams. They design and execute media strategies to keep
their employer's products and services in the news – in a good way.
6. Blogger

Companies often employ bloggers as part of their marketing strategy; an engaging
blog provides a friendly public face for the company, while potentially helping the
organization's ranking on Google and other search engines. Writers who work primarily
on blogs have to be able to turn out attention-grabbing copy that adheres to the
organization's voice and style guidelines, while keeping social media and SEO principles
in mind.
7. Sound Engineer

Sound engineers work in a variety of different environments, from recording
studios to stadiums to theaters, recording sound files. They also often maintain recording
equipment. Sound engineers have variable schedules, depending on the needs of their
clients.
8. Art Director

Art directors design visual concepts for promotions and products. They may work
in print, online, television, and other media. Depending on their industry, art directors
may have previously worked as graphic designers, photographers, or illustrators. To
succeed at this job, you must be able to communicate well and manage a team of artists,
as well as having proficiency in relevant design software.

9. Content Strategist

The occupational outlook for editors might be pretty poor – the profession is expected to
decline by 1 percent over the next few years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics – but
that doesn't mean that those skills are out of demand. Tech-savvy editors who don't mind
learning how to use Google Analytics and the basics of SEO can transition themselves from
editorial management roles into this relatively new occupation, and earn a good living doing it.2

10. Social Media Specialist
If you already spend most of your time on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc., the good news

is that it doesn't have to be a waste of time. If you're willing to embrace the strategic marketing
side of social, you might be able to turn your passion into a career. Just be advised: in addition to
a bachelor's degree and plenty of social media know-how, this job requires tact and discretion.
The internet never forgets.

A. Reading

Before reading, read the short paragraph about social media to have the main
idea of what you are going to read

 Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to
community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. Websites
and applications dedicated to forums, microblogging, social networking, social
bookmarking, social curation, and wikis are among the different types of social
media3. There are pros and cons in social media. Users should know the social
etiquettes to make the commination world more harmonious.

What Is Social Media?
Social media refers to websites and applications that are designed to allow people to
share content quickly, efficiently, and in real-time. Many people define social media as apps on
their smartphone or tablet, but the truth is, this communication tool started with computers. This
misconception stems from the fact that most social media users access their tools via apps.
The ability to share photos, opinions, events, etc. in real-time has transformed the way we
live and, also, the way we do business. Retailers who use social media as an integral part of their
marketing strategy usually see measurable results. But the key to successful social media is to
not treat it as an extra appendage but to treat it with the same care, respect, and attention you do
all of your marketing efforts4.
In social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc. play a great role in social
media as far as share and post are concerned. According to Alexa, there are 50 Top Sites of 500
sites. Top ten sites are known to social media users, consisting of Google.com, Youtube.com,
Amazon.com, Facebook.com, Reddit.com, Yahoo.com, Wikipedia.org, Twitter.com, Baidu.com,
and Instagram.com (Alexa, 2019). These sites have their own features and way to interact with
users. Each has its rules and etiquettes for members and users to follow. Some are popular
worldwide and some are known among continents, and countries. Among them, Facebook is the
most popular network worldwide with over 2 billion users.

Facebook has rules and regulations for users to follow. Whitt (2009) wrote about
“Facebook Etiquette Tips- the Dos and Don'ts of Social Networking Online” and what the writer
stated are factual and practiced in real context. Etiquettes are both dos and don’ts. The writer
regards Facebook as a forum for connecting people together. However, it can be both a dream
comes true as an easy way to keep in touch with friends and loved ones, and it can be a nightmare
for someone's professional and social life. A little common sense and proper use of the site and its
settings make for the best Facebook experience. Those who use Facebook as the platform to
connect with friends, family, loved one, and organization need to know both pros and cons of
Facebook. Dos and don’ts must be clear-cut prior to use this forum. In this regard, Whitt (2009)
showed etiquette rules concerning friending on Facebook as given below:

Don’ts:

1) Don't be offended if someone does not reply to a friend request.
2) Don't ask someone to be your friend more than once.
3) Don't friend someone who you are not comfortable seeing your photos or hearing

Media is an important part of our life now, it is playing a very

THE ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA IN OUR DAILY LIFE
Media is an important part of our life now, it is playing a very important role in every way
of life. It connects us with the scenarios in the world and informs us many things like news, history,
entertainment etc. which helps us lot in being an upgraded personality.
There was a time when man used to know nothing about the happenings in this world, his
outer knowledge was just up to his backyard or village. But as time passes, things are discovered
and new ideas and thoughts are invented like Camera, Satellite, Microphone, Machinery etc. These
things made life easy for every single individual living in this world. Man was being updated day
by day and minute by minute from each and every news.
Now in this time, media is so vast that we just need to turn on our televisions by pressing
a button and we get all the knowledge that we want or even just by searching on search engines
on the internet we get each and every information regarding, news, history, geography, music and
entertainment and many more and for this the good and common example we have is google.com.
We can find each and everything or any kind of news and updates by just writing the name on this
search engine and on the next second we can see the news and information about that particular
subject. Media helps in bringing the true facts and information of the world in front of our eyes. If
there was no media, then there was life but without any information and knowledge.

Since crimes in digital era can happen at any time without advanced sign and
warning. It is necessary to enforce Cybercrime Law to solve cybercrime.

ETDA Thailand

25 กุมภาพนั ธ์ 2013 ·

Cybercrime has emerged as a critical threat to the modern world. But legislation to control
it has lagged far behind the technology.

Lacking global recognised standards and joint efforts, experiments in most nations and
regions have proved costly and futile.

Last week the Philippines Supreme Court again stopped the government from enforcing its
cybercrime law, which has aroused fierce debates since its passage last year because it would
severely curb internet freedoms.

At the same time, the Iraqi parliament responded to a campaign launched by activists
against a proposed law known as the Cybercrimes Act that would levy heavy punishments on those
who circulate information pertaining to national security.

Last week strong concerns were voiced when the European Commission threw out its plan
to impose strict data breach reporting rules by energy providers, banks and hospitals, saying their
reputations may be damaged if they were to report online attacks and security breaches.

All these moves brought harsh comments on the internet, as increased red tape and
bureaucracy rarely solve network security flaws.

Users were very suspicious of governments implementing new rules limiting computing
freedoms, with one comment noting that governments fear the public using technology in ways
they don't understand.

Thai authorities are now working to remedy the damage created by their controversial
computer law. The 2007 Computer Crime Act (CCA) has mostly failed to accomplish its goal of
combating computer crime, instead harming unintended victims because of the law's ambiguities
and implementation, according to a study by Thammasat University.

Passage 1

Cybercrime policies/strategies

The offences related to cybercrime in Thailand are punished according to the
Telecommunications Business Act of 2001 and the Computer Crimes Act of 2007.

Some others laws and regulations may impose additional requirements on parties operating
within specific sectors (e.g. telecommunications, banking and finance, healthcare, consumer credit and
electronic payment services).

The Telecommunications Business Act prohibits the illegal interception, utilization or
disclosure of messages, information and any other data by means of telecommunications.

On 16 Dec 2016 the National Legislative Assembly approved the amendments to the
Computer-related Crime Act of 2007. The text was announced in the Government Gazette on 24
January 2017 and will come into force on 24 May 2017.

The Computer Crimes Act punishes several offences, including:
1. the illegal accessing of a computer system that is not intended for use by the person accessing it

and for which specific access prevention measures are in place;
2. the illegal disclosure of information about computer system prevention measures in a manner

that is likely to cause damage to the system owner;
3. the illegal interception of information or eavesdropping;
4. The illegal damaging, destroying, alteration, changing, or amending of computer data of other

people, either in whole or in part;
5. the illegal suspension, delay, hindering or disruption of a computer system to the extent that it

fails to operate normally;
6. the sales or distribution of set of instructions developed as a tool designed to do any of the above.

ภาษาองั กฤษสาหรบั งานดา้ นนิเทศศาสตร ์ 43

44

The amended text of the Computer Crimes Act specifies some additional offences, for example
1. the sending of computer data or electronic mail to another person causing a nuisance to the

recipient of such computer data or electronic mail, without a convenient option for the recipient
to terminate the reception or to express their intent to refuse the reception or
2. the selling or distribution of a set of instructions specifically designed as a tool for the
perpetration of an offense related to damaging destroying, altering, changing, or amending
computer data of other people with harmful effect on other person or their property.
Certain cyber activities may also breach laws and regulations specific to the specially regulated
sectors.
