DP&L and The DP&L Foundation are powering community
by making sustainable and positive impacts for future
generations. I am proud to share that the DP&L Foundation
continues to be the largest Miami Valley corporate foundation
keeping every dollar local fostering an engaged, vibrant,
welcoming region that is seen as a great place to live
and work.

2 #PoweringCommunity

Dear Community Partners,

Dayton Power & Light has a proud history of serving the people of the Dayton Region for
more than 100 years. We’ve grown over the years just like the region. As the local electric
company, we share a common goal with the communities we serve - the promotion of a
strong economy with quality jobs in a welcoming community. Working together, we all create
our shared success.

At DP&L, corporate social responsibility focuses on building community by creating an
engaged, vibrant, welcoming region that is seen as a great place to live and work.

The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation was established in 1985 to reinvest in
our communities building prosperity and supporting our mission to improve lives. Since its
inception, The DP&L Foundation has awarded over $38 million in grants to the community.

We recognize and celebrate the successes of 2018, having awarded 107 Corporate and DP&L
Foundation grants that help fund economic development and arts, workforce development,
poverty reduction, and diversity and inclusion organizations totaling $2.5 million.

We are extremely proud of the fourteen DP&L Foundation Power Grants that were given to
invest in making a positive long-lasting impact on the people and communities in the Dayton
Region today and for future generations. These strategic investments are aimed at helping
to improve the quality of life, enhancing the sustainability of organizations, and engaging
volunteerism in area partner organizations.

DP&L, our employees, and the DP&L Foundation are on a mission to provide the power and
energy our region needs to flourish, and that matters to all of us. We do this by being a good
neighbor and continuing to Power Community.

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Raga David J. Crusey Holly Wiggins

Our daily work takes us into communities,
businesses, neighborhoods and homes
across our region, so we are uniquely
positioned to spark initiatives and
partnerships to drive efforts that will create
a positive impact for our communities.
Our employees support community and
non-profit boards and committees through
board service, and commitment of personal
time, talent, and treasure.
Board service includes area college and
university advisory boards; community
chamber and planning boards; economic
and workplace development committees;
and local non-profit and associate boards.
Employees are also involved in community-
wide events such as Downtown Dayton
Partnership, Rebuilding Together Dayton,
Clothes That Work, and Better Business
Bureau Integrity Awards.

As a corporate citizen, as a community
partner and as individual people, all of us at
DP&L are committed to making a difference
through our contributions for our customers
and the communities where we live, work,
volunteer, and play.

Employees are involved as individual
volunteers and leaders in community-wide
events such as Rebuilding Together Dayton;
Generation Dayton Get Out and Give Back
Day; Five Rivers MetroParks Adopt-A-Park
clean-up; and the ThinkTV GreatTVAuction.
Employee teams lead workplace campaigns
for United Way; bake sales and jeans day
donations giving to employee selected
non-profits; and food and clothing drives.
Additionally, employee volunteers work
alongside the Dayton Chapter of The
American Red Cross to install smoke
detectors and provide fire safety education
and information to area families. And there is
more they do, many are silent heroes.

We believe that electricity is a building #PoweringCommunity
block to a society, similar to food, water
and shelter. DP&L delivers electricity to
the community to sustain life and provides
corporate contributions and DP&L Foundation
grants to improve the quality of life. Each
year we receive hundreds of applications
and proposals from worthy organizations.
We have developed an online application
to reduce the amount of paper for the
application process, which aligns with our
commitment to protect the environment. Our
funding aims to:

• Improve the quality of life for our
community

• Enhance the sustainability of the
organization

• Engage DPL people and/or partner
organizations

The communities we serve are important to
us. DP&L invests in programs that enrich all
of our communities by bringing our company,
customers and employees together.

9

DP&L offers generous support in our community, especially
to those individuals most in need. They are Hunger Heroes.
The LED giveaway is just one more example of their local
contributions. Household items are very popular among
the families served by our member agencies. To be able to
provide these necessities, especially energy efficient light
bulbs, makes a real difference.

Michelle Riley, CEO of The Foodbank #PoweringCommunity

10

Dayton Power & Light is a long-standing #PoweringCommunity
partner with The Foodbank, supporting
efforts to fight hunger throughout the Miami
Valley. With corporate sponsorships and
employee involvement, DP&L works hard
to help families in need. Employees roll up
their sleeves each year collecting food items
and donating cash which makes a difference
for food pantries around DP&L’s 24-county
service territory.

To support the campaign, DP&L locations hold
chili cook-offs and bake and book sales, with
all funds raised going directly to the Foodbank
to help maximize our purchasing power. But
it doesn’t end there—DP&L employees donate
to DP&L’s Energy-to-Go campaign, which
helps to fund a program of The Foodbank
to ensure children at risk have a nutritious
meal and snack over the weekend in their
Good-to-Go backpacks. When children open
those backpacks, they receive an inspiring
handwritten note from a DP&L employee
encouraging the child to achieve in class or
strive to do their best—letting the child know
that someone cares.

The DP&L Foundation also supports The
Foodbank’s efforts through its grant program,
helping The Foodbank acquire much-needed
equipment including a walk-in freezer and
cooler unit, two new forklifts, and a van to
manage the inventory and distribute food
supplies easier and faster.

DP&L employees volunteer at The Foodbank
and with the mobile pantries on or around
Earth Day by distributing energy efficient

On behalf of the City of Marysville, I am extremely excited to
have the support and partnership of Dayton Power and Light
in our endeavors to restore our urban forest in a sustainable
manner. With their help, we plan to remove many hazardous
trees and restore lost canopy with new, utility-friendly tree
plantings along key portions of E. and W. 5th St., a major
corridor bringing residents and visitors into our Historic
Uptown District.

Since our founding in 1911, DP&L has been ?
a proud partner with Dayton and our
surrounding communities. One of our goals
is to protect the environment by supporting
organizations that conserve or improve the
natural world around us. To meet that goal,
DP&L has invited communities in our service
territory to enrich their cities or parks with
Economic Development Grants through our
Right Tree, Right Place program.

One of DP&L’s goals is to protect the
environment. The Right Tree Right Place
Program and our partnership with Operation
1000 Cherry Tree Project is one of the many
ways DP&L supports conservation efforts and
improves the aesthetics of our tree canopies.
DP&L joined the city of Dayton to plant
over 100 cherry trees along Edwin C Moses
connecting two historical landmarks, the
Dayton Art Institute to Carillon Park known as
the Cherry Blossom Trail.

Trees are an important part of the #PoweringCommunity
environment which beautify our
neighborhoods and communities. DP&L
wants to help our customers plant smart with
utilities in mind. The type of trees and their
placement along with other vegetation could
impact the safety and reliability of electric
services to our customers. A total of 1,210
trees have been planted to date through the
Right Tree, Right Place program.

The Gift of Power is a gift of hope. The Salvation Army is
privileged to join Dayton Power and Light in offering hope to
those in helpless situations, in communities throughout the
counties in which DP&L operates. This Gift of Power says to
the mother, father, grandmother, grandfather - We see you
and care about you and your family. You are not alone.
Major Stanley Senak, The Salvation Army Dayton Kroc Center

18 #PoweringCommunity

Dayton Power and Light’s Gift of Power #PoweringCommunity
emergency relief fund is designed to assist
families during the coldest and highest
heating bill months of the year. Collectively
since 2016, more than a half million dollars
has been contributed through DP&L support
and generous customer donations, keeping
the power on for 1,515 families during the
winter heating season.

We care about our customers’ well-being,
and through DP&L’s Gift of Power we can
continue helping our friends, families, and
neighbors stay warm during the winter
heating season.

Funds from Gift of Power aid customers
who may not be eligible for Ohio Energy
Assistance programs and have recently
incurred a financial hardship, such as the
loss of employment, major medical bill, or
the loss of a spouse.

DP&L’s Gift of Power is administered by
The Salvation Army, an organization whose
mission of “meeting human needs” is
strongly aligned with the goal of Gift of
Power. Every dollar donated is distributed by
The Salvation Army.
