Tissot Visodate Heritage: A Timeless Elegance Review Some people believe that certain things were just better in the past, like classic cars and old movies. This sentiment might also extend to watches. Vintage-inspired designs have become increasingly popular among brands in recent years, with models like Longines' Avigation BigEye and Blancpain's Fifty Fathoms gaining attention. The combination of retro style and modern engineering can be a dream for enthusiasts. Tissot, with its Heritage watch collection drawing on over 165 years of watchmaking, is part of this trend. The Visodate Automatic, in particular, takes us back to the 1950s when Tissot celebrated its 100th anniversary with something innovative for that time. Tissot quietly introduced this piece, and it didn't receive much attention. The Tissot Heritage Visodate line, especially the automatic version, is often considered one of the best choices for an affordable dress watch. It's a favourite among fans for good reasons. The Modern Version Of The Classic Timepiece Does Not Disappoint Looking down on the Visodate Heritage reveals a design that stands the test of time. The gunmetal-grey dauphine hands and hour markers perfectly complement the classic Tissot logo, creating a distinct contrast against the smooth, silky-grey dial. The sharply angled domed crystal seems to frame the dial, providing a visual lift to the hands and hour markers. Although distinct from the original 1957 Tissot Visodate in various aspects, it manages to capture the style of its predecessors without losing its unique identity.

Case And Design The case of the watch is made from 316L stainless steel and measures 40mm in diameter and 11.6mm in height. However, it appears a bit smaller when worn, giving off more of a 38mm feel. That’s not a drawback. Most people will still appreciate it, especially those looking for a dressier style. The case has a polished finish throughout. Except for the underside of the lugs and a narrow ring on the lowercase side, maintaining a period-correct aesthetic. The lugs are slightly long and slender, a characteristic often seen in Tissot's Heritage watches, with a lug-to-lug length of 47mm. The crown is flat, featuring the brand's "T" logo, but it doesn't screw down, providing only 30 meters of water resistance. The case back is a snap-on design with a sapphire exhibition window, reducing water resistance but adding to the overall retro vibe of the watch. Considering it's primarily a dress watch (with a casual touch), it's advisable to switch to a sportier option for extended water activities. The sapphire crystal replaces the original acrylic one, though there doesn't seem to be an antireflective coating. Paired with the black dial, it could almost act as a mirror, but the polished silver hands and indices ensure good legibility. Dial And Hands The black dial creates a striking contrast with the polished silver hands and indices, perfectly complementing the polished case. While there are a couple of dial options available, such as silver and a deep sunburst blue, the black and silver combination stands out the most, in our opinion. Similar to the Heritage Petite Seconde, there's no luminescence, fitting well with the style and era it reflects. Faceted indices mark every five minutes, with double indices at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. The polished and faceted dauphine-style hands are simple and retro, catching the light to counterbalance the crystal's reflective nature. The logo below 12 o'clock is distinct from the brand's vintage script, a characteristic of the Heritage watch line, while the modern Tissot logo is a simpler Sans serif.

The date at 3 o'clock has been upgraded to a day/date complication in a single window. The print is black on a white background, with an optional red numeral next to the day, and Sunday (Sun) is consistently printed in red. Features & Movement The Heritage Tissot Visodate watch utilizes the ETA Caliber 2836-2 movement, known for its excellent and reliable performance. It typically experiences only a slight deviation in time, either speeding up or slowing down by a few seconds a day. The watch boasts an estimated power reserve of up to 40 hours and can be manually wound. Setting the Tissot Visodate Heritage ● To adjust the time, pull the crown to position 3 and turn it. Keep in mind that the day/date display will change when you go past midnight. ● For setting the day and date, pull the crown to position 2 and turn. Turning clockwise adjusts the date while turning counter-clockwise adjusts the day. Adding to this classic timepiece’s timeless appearance, it features a highly sought-after crocodile-grain leather strap. The strap securely fastens with an engraved deployment clasp. The strap and clasp are both well-crafted and generally comfortable. Most people would likely be satisfied with them, but some would consider swapping it for something similar with a pin buckle. It's worth noting that the Heritage Petite Seconde's butterfly clasp was an exception and provided a very comfortable fit, so there's some flexibility in this preference. So, What Does It All Mean? In our view, Tissot possesses an impressive knack for crafting watches that may seem simple at first glance but are adorned with subtle details that set them apart. These nuances showcase the true craftsmanship invested in each timepiece. Considering the quality of materials used and the exemplary Swiss watchmaking evident in this caliber of watch, one might anticipate a hefty price tag. Surprisingly, it is remarkably affordable.

This affordability is somewhat surprising, given the high-grade materials employed, making it a standout example of Swiss watch craftsmanship. There's no reason to complain about this; the watch exudes elegance without flaunting it, making it a genuinely refined piece.
