Phoenix Chapter No 86 History

At the beginning of 2019, a few members of The Order of the Eastern Star and Master Masons of Charles H. Wesley

Lodge No. 147 approached the Honorable Emmanuel J. Stanley, Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful

Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Maryland, and Its jurisdiction with the idea of chartering a “sister chapter” to Charles H.

Wesley Lodge No 147.

After receiving the required approval from both Myra Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star (OES), Prince Hall

Affiliated (PHA) and the Grand Lodge of Maryland, Study Club No. 86 was formed on July 18th, 2019. Under the

guidance of District Deputy Grand Matron (DDGM) Venus Drummond and District Deputy Grand Patron (DDGP)

Marcellus Jolly, Study Club No. 86 met on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month in Bowie, MD to study and follow the

necessary steps to become a chartered OES chapter.

On October 17, 2019, members of Study Club No. 86 held a vote to select a chapter name when made an official chapter.

“Phoenix” was selected as it reflected the drive, determination, and fire in the hearts of all members to work within The

Order and rise up within Bowie, MD to light the community with benevolent works of charity and sincere friendship.

On November 7, 2019, the Honorable Emmanuel J. Stanley, Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful

Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Maryland, Grand Worthy Matron Lillie M. Jones, and Grand Worthy Patron Jeffery M.

Jones of Myra Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, as well as their delegations visited Study Club No. 86 to view

their proficiency. At the end of the meeting, Study Club No. 86 received an outstanding amount of feedback. The

feedback was so overwhelmingly positive that Study Club No. 86 was officially declared a chapter by the powers of the

Most Worshipful Grant Master and would be recognized as Phoenix Chapter No. 86 from that day forward.
