So! Maria was a big, slow sultry girl
Visited and totally changed your world
Dominica, once an evergreen Paradise
In tropical winter as quick as the roll of dice
Trees, with no emerald to adorn,
The wildlife, their habitat to mourn
But not just them, the people too
For days, they are dazed, dunno what to do
Large trees lost their bark, are there dogs on this isle?
To hear them bark again, well that took a lil while

And what of her rivers, source of life and culture
Now a murderer, making food for the vulture
With rocks-a-mighty, like a sledge to a wall
Homes reduced to splinter, glass, metal and all
Yet, we are alive, and grateful to God too
His promise of today, and skies turned from grey to blue
The sea, now littered with big boats of aid
Essentials to survive, not a grocery to be paid
But really, few groceries or businesses stood a chance
When we ourselves in downtown Roseau did the looting dance

The violence was swift, and detailed in its measure
Even the carpet lining some business fl oors became a personal
pleasure
But the land, now a tapestry of blue, silver and yellow
That stands in the place where galvanize was the preferred
bed-fellow
So what is next, my little Commonwealth?
The vibrant bold approach, or the one with calm and stealth,
We mourn the loss, bury our dead
Rebuild with better standards, using more concrete in its stead
New standards is the catch phrase all dem engineers say
Maybe build out of Royal Palms, they seemed to withstand the
sway

But alas, In this our pretty little land
More appreciation for Gods merciful mighty hand
Hugs, smiles and kisses for seeing a familiar face
Proclaiming life only, by the strength of God’s grace
Shall we return to the Pre Maria ways of old?
Or will the good advice we get be taken to have and to hold
I’ve heard the leaders say, a climate resilient land
But will the men of God unite, and maybe take a stand
Silence, violence, repentence, greviance
Rebuilding, promising, hoarding, sentencing
But I really came to say, we cyar tun-back after we press play
Oh Dominica, the world has shown its care.
Use the thing wisely, but only if you dare.
