children and families of the Clinton Service Unit.. She knew that by combining healthcare with community resources
we could make a positive impact on the children from the communities we serve. Natasha Flurry, Chief Nurse Execu-
tive stated “At this event we are promoting positive health and wellness for our children. Generally, we speak about
physical conditions (diabetes, obesity, broken bones). In addition we will be offering conversations with parents and
children about issues surrounding mental and behavioral health.”

Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) Improves Access to Care
The MMU began making it’s way into the communities in February 2022. The MMU takes
the road every other Thursday and visits one of the six towns in the monthly rotation: Can-
ton, Hammon, Woodward, Geary, Kingfisher and Elk City. Dr. Dickerson often reminds the
team that, “Consistency is key”. Natasha Flurry, Chief Nurse Executive for CSU adds,
“The people know you will be there with you say you will be there. You arrive on time and
don’t leave early.”
The first outings were not well attended, but the team kept showing up and in July in-
creased the number of patients seen to 18 on it’s return trips to Canton.
The MMU has two patient exam rooms.
There is a private screening area
where patients can meet with registration,
doctor or nurse. The MMU is outfitted with
a lift for those in wheelchairs or patients
that cannot safely use stairs. One of the
patient rooms is negative pressure,
allowing the MMU team to treat patients
with airborne illness, such as COVID-19.
PRC Information Card
A Purchased/Referred Care Information Card is set to roll out for patients to present at medical visits outside
of the service unit. This card was approved on April 28, 2022 by the Office of General Counsel, Office of Re-
source Access and Partnership, and IHS Headquarters Public Affairs. The intent on implementation of this
card is to improve communication for patients and vendors with referral processing and payment for services.
In the coming months, all patients will receive a PRC Information Card upon verification of eligibility.
Catherine Pendergraft
Program Manager | El Reno Indian Health Center
I started with I.H.S. at Claremore Indian Hospital in April, 1994 as a Radiology Technol-
ogist. I have been a jack of all trades as Radiology Supervisor, Ambulatory Care Man-
ager at Claremore. Before COVID hit, my husband and I moved out west to Arizona
while I was the Compliance Officer at Whiteriver Indian Hospital. Then we moved to
New Mexico so I could be the COO of the Santa Fe Service Unit. We moved back home
to Oklahoma because COVID taught us how important family is. I have 2 grown sons
and a new grandson along with lots of other family and friends I love to be close to.
The POP Award recognizes Clinton Service Unit employees who exhibit
Personal Outstanding Performance. It is designed to encourage and
acknowledge employees for their everyday efforts and customer service.
Congratulations to all of our POP Stars!
Delana Cowan and Daniel Hibbert
“”I reached out to Delana Cowen, RN at Watonga and Delana in turn reached out to Daniel Hibbert, IT, for assistance with creating
an iCare panel for a specific vaccine age group so that we could send letters and audio care messages promoting COVID (tender
age) vaccines,” states Bonnie Kraft. “Daniel and Delana were able to assimilate this iCare report very quickly so that we could start
sending audio care messages. I appreciate the help from both of you immensely”
Kaylee Horn
“Kaylee Horn, LPN let me know of at patient at the El Reno clinic that was had voiced concerns about an increased wait time for a
nurse only visit,” says Bonnie Kraft, RN. “I asked Kaylee if she could assist the patient so that the visit could be completed quickly.
Kaylee agreed and while she was busy with another clinic, she completed the nurse only visit. I would like to thank her for her willing-
ness to assist!”
Kala Rodgers
“I want to thank Kala Rodgers for taking care of two PCard requests even though she was out of the office,” says Johnelle Lamar. “I
called her late in the day, when most cards were fixing to shut off although Kala’s card was still open for purchasing. She graciously
agreed to go ahead and process the 2 PCards. This prevented me from having to go through the extra approval steps that would
have to take place if these had not been processed that same day.”
Christa Runnestrand, Hailey White, Penny Scraper, Lia Spears & Juan Matanane
“I would like to recognize several staff members,” says Ida Tallbird. “On Thursday, July 21st, several Watonga employees came to
the aid of a homeless woman. These employees went above and beyond their job duties to help her find assistance and shelter.”

as possible.
