Claremont Day dawned bright and (mercifully) a little breezy. Most of our Foxes Transition Morning 17:00-
pupils had already seen the marquee going up during the week, but it was still a sur- 20:00

Sports Hall. We honoured our prize-winners, enjoyed speeches from Mark Beau- Barbecue
mont and Giles Perrin and prepared, with anticipation for our Eco Fashion Show. The
children had been working tirelessly on their outfits, which highlighted the waste 3 Tues Tech and Dress Rehearsal
generated by the fashion industry, both in terms of resources (like water) and Little Shop of Horrors
waste. It was a very colourful and energetic show and I am thankful to Mrs Perry

an interesting array of products for sale, a coconut shy, and Zorbing. The entire
day had such a lovely, relaxed feeling to it, as we competed in old fashioned games, 4 Wed Badgers / Foxes 14:30-

I knew that Little Shop of Horrors was an ambitious production, even by 5 Thur Moving up morning - 09:00-

of Mrs Woodwright), which required the actor to sing and act while operating the 3

was funny, emotional, affectionate and touching. They thanked their teachers and
their friends for making their school experience such a sportive one. It seems
astonishing to think that we will not see their familiar faces around the school next
year, but we wish them the best of luck on the next stage of their educational jour-
ney. We were also sad to bid farewell to Mrs Luff, Mrs Harris-Prior and Mrs Wood-
wright and wish them all the best for the future.
We end the year with the fantastic news that one of our teachers Claire
Wilson (Reception) has been “highly commended” in the 2018 Sussex Teacher of the
Year Awards. We are very grateful, as always, to our hard-working, dedicated, bril-
liant team. I hope that everyone enjoys a restful summer holiday and I look forward
to seeing you all on Monday 3rd September

Project 1000 Pad
My name is Ruramai Chivasa. I am a
19 year old Zimbabwean girl, cur-
rently in my last month of studying
in the UK, on a scholarship from
Pestalozzi International Village
Trust.
I have made it my goal to make
1000 reusable sanitary towels for
disadvantaged girls in Zimbabwe.
My plan is to make reusable sani-
tary pads and donate them to girls
who cannot afford them, starting
with those from my village in
Gokwe. Not only do I want to sup-
ply them with the sanitary wear,
but also to teach them the trade
where they could make an extra
allowance from selling them to those who can afford to buy them.
This is such a worthwhile project – I hope you will be able to help with anything you can!

Thank you.
Goodbye Year 8!
The FOCS Committee and myself would like to wish the Year 8 all the best for the
future. We haven been pleased to help enhance your experience at Claremont
School.
I have a source who informs me you all had a great time at your Prom, I have seen
some funny pictures. We are pleased that FOCS was able to fund the Photo Booth, the pictures are
great.
Again, wishing you all the very best for the future.

Goodbye Year 8!
The Year 8 prom was a huge success. The staff at the A21 diner said 'it was the best party they'd host-
ed'. They also thanked the Year 8's for bringing such a fun atmosphere to their diner! If you haven't been
to the diner, it is highly recommended, and they welcome private hire for parties in the evenings too!
The evening started with a game of two truths and a lie, where they had to guess which 'fact' was the
false one. We did this outside in the evening sun creating a lot of laughs!
Mrs Francis popped in to wish everyone well and even had a go on the jukebox and photo booth! What a
good sport!
Later we played the after eight challenge where they had to get an After Eight mint from their forehead
to their mouths without touching it! Olivia was pretty good at this one!
Tami won the dance competition - boy has this guy got a good groove! Artem also showed off some epic
Russian dancing and Jack strutted his stuff in true style! The girls looked beautiful and danced a lot all
evening. The free Jukebox was a great success as we danced to music from the 80's all the way up to to-
day's tunes!
Frank won the game of 'heads and tails' and finally the evening ended in a vote for 'Best dressed' with
the awards going to Lucinda and Paddy.
The Year 8's dressed to impress and had a lot of fun with the "Instant Fun Photo Booth", which was fund-
ed by our magnificent FOC! Thank you Claremont FOC - we've created so many fun pictures and have made
lots of memories! A drop box has been created so please can all the Year 8's upload the millions of photos
they took on their smartphones? Please see a separate email for the drop box login details.
With special thanks to Michelle Samuel for helping me to organise the event, Cluni and the office gang for
all the running around, the finance team for being so efficient and Will Brand for supervising. We couldn't
have done this without the FOC so THANK YOU!!!!
Goodbye Year 8!

With a formidable total to chase, Battle Abbey had no option but to hit out, and they lost two batsmen

came back to force the issue and with 2 wickets for Xander S and some smart runs outs from Henry and
Jacob, the total remained out of reach.

Pre Prep dance club!
Pre-Prep footballers enjoyed their last session on Tues-
day, with a fun tournament. The children have enjoyed
football learning new skills and techniques, as well as
working as a team. Thank you to Mr Cook, Mr Mosley, Mr
Drinkwater and Mrs Sands for helping to run football
club.
In 1D we have been
studying the artwork
of Paul Klee. We
looked at his painting
'Castle and Sun' and
used his methods and
techniques to create
our own. Here are a
few of our own inter-
pretations of Paul
Klee's work.
Eva was offered the opportunity to be a mascot for the Eastbourne International tennis tourna-
ment. She walked out with Karolina Pliskova who came second at the Eastbourne tournament last
year. She has previously been ranked world number 1 and is now ranked as 7th. She is from the
Czech Republic. At the time of writing she was playing in the quarter finals. Eva had a fantastic
day, rubbing shoulders with tennis royalty! She even had the opportunity to watch Andy Murray
play.
Francesca (2F), Lottie (2B) and Melanie (2F)

day night in the Mad Fish Stage School 20th

Joe passed his first grading at Kyokushin Karate (Hastings and
Bexhill Club) last week.
Well done, Joe!
Ducklings &
Butterflies
This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have made the most of the lovely weather by having a trip down to the fields
where they enjoyed playing with the balls, bubbles and in the sand pit.
Both rooms have also enjoyed making sand pictures for our display board and lots of water play in the garden with our
friends in Robins.
Robins
This week in Robins we have made the most of the beautiful weather. We enjoyed going down to the
fields to play as well as water play in our new mud kitchen. We have also been busy creating under the sea
pictures for our summer board. The colour of the week is Blue and our blue pictures look great displayed
on our window display.
Hedgehogs
After the beautiful weather at the weekend the children came in to tell us about the fun they had at
the beach. Therefore, the Hedgehogs have enjoyed lots of beach themed activities. They enjoyed dig-
ging for shells in the sand pit and painting stones from the beach. The have also enjoyed the water ac-
tivities outside and painting in the sunshine.
Badgers & Foxes
This week we have been based lots of our learning
in the forest. We went on a mini-beast search using
magnifying pots. When we found a mini-beast we
found it some food so it couldn't get hungry. Lots
of children paid close attention to each animals’
legs, estimating how many they might have. We
then created a stick trail, and measured them
against our friends to compare their size. In addi-
tion to this we have also been creating our own
paintings, dipping different leaves into paint and
printing them onto our paper.
Squirrels
This week, the Squirrels have been looking at 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. They have been creating sym-
metric butterfly pictures and have made puppets. The Squirrels have also enjoyed their first visit to
their new pre-prep class!
Kingfishers
This week, the Kingfishers have been exploring sensory play. They have loved playing with the aqua
beads and the water as well as using various materials to make sand. They have also really enjoyed har-
vesting fruit in the Jubilee Garden and exploring the different smells.
