This eagerly awaited event, now in its 22nd edition, will showcase French culture while fostering connections between Malaysian and French communities. Running until July 14, the festival will span multiple cities, including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuching. This year’s theme is sport, in tribute to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Event highlights Cinema enthusiasts are in for a treat with Le French Festival 2024’s carefully curated lineup of 16 French films, including highlights such as The Three Musketeers: Milady, The Taste of Things, and The Animal Kingdom. On June 2, attendees can experience a special digital day dedicated to short films, virtual reality games, cinema workshops, and digital art exhibitions, all in collaboration with the ClermontFerrand International Short Film Festival. According to a press release, the new deal will address concerns that UMG and its artistes have with generative artificial intelligence (AI) by protecting human artistry and “the economics that flow to those artists and songwriters”. “TikTok is also committed to working with UMG to remove unauthorised AI-generated music from the platform, as well as tools to improve artist and songwriter attribution,” the statement read. TikTok music business development global head Ole Obermann said it is delighted to welcome UMG and UMPG back to TikTok. “In particular, we will work together to make sure that AI tools are developed responsibly to enable a new era of musical creativity and fan engagement while protecting human creativity,” he added. Scheffler’s wife Meredith gave birth to the couple’s first child – son Bennett – last Wednesday and he said the couple was able to spend some quality time during their first week of parenthood. “At home it was a nice time to reflect a little bit on my career so far and where my life has gone,” Scheffler said. “I married my high school sweetheart and I always wanted to play professional golf and now I’m here. “I was sitting there with a newborn in my arms and the green jacket in the closet. It was a pretty special time I think at home.” But on Monday, it was back to work. Instead of bowing out with his greatest Liverpool campaign, his final away game offered something of the story of a season. A 3-3 draw at Aston Villa, at a ground where Klopp got one of the pivotal, and most dramatic, wins in the season he won the Premier League title and suffered his heaviest, and most surreal, defeat, 7-2, the following year, was a snapshot of the themes and the dreams. It illustrated the flawed brilliance of his Liverpool 2.0, how they flirted with glory and ended up with entertaining improvement. Klopp will not go out having subdued the rest of the division, as Sir Alex Ferguson did, or in sad decline, like Arsene Wenger was, but as a manager who built one great team and leaves a work in progress for his successor. There was a twist on a theme: late goals and comebacks have been a staple of Liverpool’s season. This time they suffered from them, Aston Villa scoring twice in four late minutes. Ten days earlier, they had led 4-0 against Tottenham and risked only drawing. Amid a lack of control, each told a tale: the loss of leads in two games against Manchester United, in the FA Cup and the Premier League, are why Klopp’s reign will end at Anfield on Sunday with a celebration, but without anything at stake. But there was something fitting in the way Klopp’s penultimate game was a thriller. His has been a hugely entertaining ride; it is why Liverpool have enjoyed it even without knowing the destination. He turned matches into events, he bent many of them to his will. Yet sometimes the wild nature of it all meant Liverpool suffered amid the anarchy and the jeopardy. The excitement threatened to be their undoing. There are ways of assessing the Klopp years. In a sense, it ends as it starts: his second team, like his first, has been built from the front, forever capable of scoring. In the 27 years before Klopp’s arrival, Liverpool had only scored 80 League goals in one season. They have done so in five campaigns under the German. Yet Villa’s three goals make it 41 conceded this season: in Klopp’s three best seasons, Liverpool were defensively outstanding, conceding a mere 22 goals in 2018-19, 33 the following year and 26 in 2021-22. In those three seasons, they were either the world’s best or very close. Without that defensive frugality that stemmed from positional chemistry, they have been entertainers but imperfect. This has become Liverpool’s longest run without a clean sheet since 1998; they have conceded at least twice in four consecutive League games for the first time since 2014. Ultimately, Liverpool were not defensively good enough to be champions; they were too profligate at times as well. They scored three goals at Villa Park but did not kill the game with a fourth. They have had the most shots in the Premier League but some have been glaring misses. It is now Arne Slot’s problem. Klopp leaves a void, a legacy, a host of memories, a series of indelible moments. And, more prosaically, a team in third. And he has been generous in suggesting there is room for another to do better. “New influences always help, that’s how it is,” he said. “We did what we could. “If we could have done better, we probably would have. The New York Times claim that the expectation is for Fernandes to continue at United after a lengthy meeting was held between the skipper and new decisionmakers INEOS, who were represented by Sir Dave Brailsford, Jason Wilcox and Matt Hargreaves. The 29-year-old and his entourage sat down with the United leadership team at their Carrington training ground last week, where it was made clear to Fernandes that the team will continue to be built around him. Fernandes has asked for evidence that United are moving in the right direction, likely to be in the form of additions to the playing squad over the summer, but a surprise sale has still not been ruled out. But the consensus is that Fernandes will continue to see out his contract, which expires in two years’ time. National track cycling head coach John Beasley said he will try to avoid overloading the 36-year-old with excessive training, ensuring the latter remains fit and ready to set the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome on fire. “Honestly we are on track with regards to our preparations for Paris, the only area we need to pay very close attention to is his health. “Yes we still work really hard but we won’t do the volume that we used to do and that is the key because if I can keep him healthy, he will perform well in Paris,” he told Bernama. Recently, Azizulhasni, nicknamed “The Pocket Rocketman”, vowed to clinch Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Paris Olympics in his fifth and final appearance at the quadrennial Games. Azizulhasni had previously won silver and bronze for the keirin event at the Tokyo edition in 2020 and Rio in 2016, respectively. In 2022, the Dungun-born rider underwent open heart surgery due to a rare heart condition known as anomalous aortic origin of the right coronary artery (AAORCA) at the Epworth Richmond Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. In the meantime, Beasley also shared that Azizulhasni will take part in probably one last competition in Belgium at the end of June before heading to Paris. He said he planned to put the 2010 Asian Games men’s keirin gold medallist in the sprint event only to avoid potential crashes before the Paris Olympics. “In sprint event, we only have one other opponent on the track so in lots of ways we can tune up our tactics without placing him in any sort of danger,” he said.
