Mini-Soccer Development

League Development Games
Fixtures for age groups 7 to 10 will be allocated to all Teams in the League and they will play all games on the 3G pitches
at Broadfield or K2 to the mini soccer Laws as laid down by the FA. All League games will be non-competitive
development games and scores, or League Tables will not be published as per the FA Directive. The Crawley Youth
League “Season” will be September to the end of April over a 26-week period; games will be played on a Sunday and
fixture lists for all age groups will be given out at the League Meeting at the beginning of September each season.

Mini-Soccer Formats (5v5 & 7v7)
These formats are based upon all the academic research, evidence about child development that has been gathered
throughout the extensive consultation process. Put simply, smaller versions of the game will enable players to:

• Have more touches of the ball to develop technique
• Have more dribbling opportunities and 1v1s
• Have more shots and score more goals
• Have more involvement in the game
• More involvement means more opportunity for player development

Trophy Events
Within the 26-week development games 6 weeks will be set aside for a “Competitive Cup Competition” for the U7s and
U8s.
The Teams will be split into Leagues, the Teams will play each other and a League Representative will keep scores and a
League Table in both of the age groups. Each Team will play each other and when completed the 1st in the A League will
play the 1st in the B League, the 2nd in the A League will play the 2nd in the B league, and this will continue with both the A
and B teams playing each other. The winners of Both Leagues will win a small trophy in recognition of their
achievement. If required a C and D League will be incorporated.

U9 and U10 Trophy Events
Within the 26-week development games 12 weeks will be set aside for 3 “Competitive Cup Competitions” for both the
U9s and U10s. They will be called the Knock Out Cup, The League Cup, and the Invitation Cup for both age groups.

The U9 & U10 Knock Out Cup
A League representative will collect the scores until the Teams have played each other once. A League Table will be kept
(but not published) and from the League Table Teams will be “seeded” for the 1st round of the Knock Out Cup. In the 1st
round and sometimes the 2nd round (depending of number of Teams) the winners will go on to the next round of the
Knock Out Cup and the losers will go into the League Cup. In this way players will be playing at their level of development
and should improve their technique in a competitive Team game.

The U9 & U10 League Cup
The Teams coming from the Knock Out Cup will play in the 1st round of the League Cup and will continue until 2 Teams are

left for the final tie.

The U9 & U10 Invitation Cup
Teams will be invited from the U/9 and U/10 Knock Out and League Cup who have not progressed to the later stages of
either cup. The Teams will be notified later during the season.
