OPTICAL REALITIES SIMON HOSKINS Executive Director MESSAGE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR As we happily put the pandemic in the rear view mirror, 2022 experienced super encouraging growth in field hockey programming with record registrations. The National Indoor Tournament was the largest ever, also highlighting the trend of growth of the indoor game. Our Sport Development programming focused on partnering with communities to grow the game and expanded State Chapters. We were fortunate to secure key staff in leadership positions over the summer with the appointment of Craig Parnham to High Performance Director, David Passmore as the U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach, and Sean Rappaport as the Head of Umpiring. We also said farewell to Steve Horgan who retired from USA Field Hockey after a hugely admirable career serving the umpire community. Our core relationship with the United States Performance Center continued to grow. The provision of high performance services including strength and conditioning, athletic training, sports psychology, sports nutrition and sports medicine was expanded to include our men’s program. Final planning was concluded on the installation of a world class training center on the campus of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte with accelerated plans to have the first phase of the facility completed by the end of 2023. This will provide an incredible high performance environment for the senior and junior national teams. Over the course of eight months, USA Field Hockey’s Management Team and Staff along with assistance from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s revised the previous Strategic Plan and included opinions and input from various key stakeholders. The USA Field Hockey Strategic Plan 2023-28 was unanimously approved by USA Field Hockey's Board of Directors in December. The plan identifies the core purpose, mission and vision, and the four key strands and strategic initiatives that will receive focus. As we look forward, core themes include partnerships, regionalization, inspiration and volunteerism. Together, with key sport partners, we can magnify our efforts. We will focus further on supporting and empowering State Chapters to develop the game in their communities. We will not only serve members, we will be more intentional on inspiring current and new members to be ever more active in promoting our sport. Our sport exists globally because of the many thousands of good individuals who volunteer their time to share the joy, teamship, work ethic, commitment, fun and many other life forming skills of being part of our fabulous sport. Over the past eight years Mark Vittese and Bree Gillespie, who also served as four years as chair, have given so much of their lives to the Board of Directors. They helped guide the National Governing Body and much admiration and appreciation goes to them both following their tenure. I do want to give special recognition to the amazing staff of USA Field Hockey who give countless hours, with much passion and dedication, to organizing programming that is the foundation of field hockey. 4 Annual Report USA Field Hockey | Tele : +(789)-7365-265-253 Annual Report 2022 | Fax : +(364)-9783-634-265

Constance Applebee, also known as “The Apple,” brought the game to the United States and began governance of women’s field hockey. Six years later in 1928, the Field Hockey Association of American (FHAA) was founded to govern men’s field hockey. In April 1993, the USFHA and FHAA merged to form the United States Field Hockey Association, later renamed USA Field Hockey. The energy in the room was palpable. So many field hockey legends were in attendance. A highlight of the evening was a special video that compiled images and clips from the past and showcased how the sport has evolved to where it is today. The evening started with guest speakers including Charlene Morett-Curtiss, and Steve Jennings who talked about being grateful for the present. Next, the 2021 USA Field Hockey Annual Award Winners were recognized with Stanford Field Hockey Team, Alumni, Family and Friends taking home the Grow the Game Award, Mallory Federoff honored with the National Umpire Award, Gateway winning the Club of the Year Award, and Jeanne O'Brien earned the Humanitarian Award. Beirne started the Undertow Field Hockey Club, which was formed by a group of adults within the Tidewater Field Hockey Association. When given the choice, he chose to focus on less experienced athletes and was dedicated to improving their skills through principles of play. He also expanded opportunities in Metro Richmond for players of all ages. Mitchell created the “Little Stickler’s” program in 2004 which was a series of clinics focused on bringing the sport to younger players to grow the game in the area. Two years later, she joined the staff of the Southern Maryland Eliminators Field Hockey Club. In May 2022, she was named the head coach at Leonardtown High School. NATIONAL COACH CHRISTINE MITCHELL Sawyer began her umpiring journey in 1975 after taking a required course as a Health and Physical Education major. This was followed by a long career at the high school scene from 1976 to 2022, where she officiated at district, regional and state championships. She also officiated at the Division I level but her college stint was cut short after she suffered a severe Achilles injury. NATIONAL UMPIRE TERRI SAWYER Texas Pride was founded in 2012 and a year later was taken over by Tina Edmonds. What started with 20 kids in the program and a few tournament registrations, grew into a dominant program on the USA Field Hockey club scene. The club started because there wasn’t any year-round organized field hockey training and Edmonds knew that needed to change. NATIONAL CLUB TEXAS CLUB Hannigan gained a lot of notoriety to her commitment to one of her former players, Marina Ganetsky, who in December 2020 suddenly experienced a brain bleed, known as an Arteriovenous Malformation. She was aske to work with Ganetsky on her motor skills and do some basic field hockey and help her rehabilitation. MASTERS u.s. MASTERS TEAMS The first WMH Masters Indoor World Cup, set to be hosted in Virginia Beach, Va., was canceled in February. In April, USA Field Hockey’s Board of Directors approved the addition of a temporary committee, the U.S. Masters Transition Team. The purpose of this group, which is made up of U.S. Men’s and Women’s Masters Committee leaders, is to develop the strategic plan and infrastructure needed to serve, support and grow the Masters community. This also better aligns with World Masters Hockey (WMH) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to support the U.S. Masters community. The priorities of the Transition Team are to domestically grow the number of people playing over the age of 35 and the number of playing opportunities for masters age players. Internationally, they want to field strong and competitive players to participate at all events. The first detailed task of the Transition Team was to conduct an audit of the tryouts and selection processes for both the men and women to ensure the traveling teams were sanctioned by USA Field Hockey and officially presented to the WMH. Both the men’s and women’s processes passed the audit and recommended improvements to the selection process to help develop best practices for the future. In September, the Transition Team worked to create a platform to gather input and welcome feedback from the entire U.S. Masters community to establish an organization that can not only manage masters field hockey in the United States as it exists, but drive it forward to greater strength, engagement and representation at all levels. U.S. Masters led and supported 13 teams that competed at the three 2022 World Masters Hockey (WMH) Masters World Cups. The first was August 12 to 21 in Nottingham, United Kingdom, then October 1 to 10 in Cape Town, South Africa and lastly, October 19 to 29 in Tokyo, Japan. wmh masters world cup finishes O-35 Women: 5th O-40 Men: 8th O-40 Women: 7th O-45 Men: 9th O-50 Men: 10th O-50 Women: 8th O-55 Men: 10th O-55 Women: 10th O-55 Men Spirit of Masters: 5th O-60 Men: 8th O-60 Women: 7th O-65 Men: 6th O-65 Women: 3rd @LIAM HAMER-NEL 2020 Annual Report USA Field Hockey | Tele : +(789)-7365-265-253 Annual Report 2022 | Fax : +(364)-9783-634-265

UMPIRE umpire education department It was a year of change in USA Field Hockey’s Umpiring Department. Longtime Director of Umpiring Steve Horgan announced his retirement in July 2022, after 14 years of service to the organization. The first half saw many Umpire Members provide service at USA Field Hockey’s Regional and National, Indoor and Outdoor Events. Brian Tyson joined as Umpire Services Coordinator in July. A promising young umpire and member of a field hockey family, he brought an understanding of the ecosystem in how USA Field Hockey operates. He immediately handled administrative needs and challenges of the department, while simultaneously fostering relationships with other departments, most notably the Events Teams. Sean Rapaport, a lawyer and current FIH Hockey Pro League and World Cup certified umpire from South Africa, relocated to northern Virginia with his young family in October and stepped into Horgan’s role. Rapaport and Tyson spent Q4 finding their feet while simultaneously planning for and executing the key umpire involvement at the National Hockey Festival and the commencement of the indoor season. The umpire briefings for both Festival and the indoor season were presented electronically and shared along with the current FIH Briefings as USA Field Hockey’s Umpire Department looks to align as closely as possible with current international trends, thinking and best practices. EDI STATEMENT USA Field Hockey continues to strive to increase diversity in field hockey, recognizing that the demographics of this country are changing. In 2020, USA Field Hockey formed an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Working Group that was chaired by Board Member and National Federation of State High School Associations President Dr. Karissa Niehoff. To support the EDI Statement, the Sport Development Department introduced All Starz Field Hockey, USA Field Hockey's disability inclusion program that invites athletes of all abilities to enjoy discovering, playing, learning and competing in field hockey. All Starz Field Hockey was demonstrated in January at the 2022 Sunshine Showcase at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort with the assistance of Long Island Field Hockey. In November, Walking Hockey was promoted with the inflatable field. Walking Hockey is a modified game of field hockey in which athletes walk instead of run. 722 INDIVIDUALS DONATED IN 2022 MARK PALCZEWSKI NG RODRIGO JAMARILLO Donors help ensure longevity for field hockey by contributing to the USA Field Hockey Foundation. Supporters in 2022 helped enrich lives by providing programming which benefited thousands of athletes, coaches, umpires, leaders and families in communities across the country as USA Field Hockey celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the organization. FUNDRAISING This estate gift of 2.6 million dollars made by Grace Robertson in honor of Elisabeth “Shelly” Shellenberger was created to memorialize Shelly’s lifetime of service to the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA), now recognized as USA Field Hockey. The principal and income of this fund is applied to the needs of the U.S. Women’s National Team, outside the annual budget, and will have an impact on today’s athletes and generations to come. HOW DID DONORS IMPACT USA FIELD HOCKEY AS THE ORGANIZATION CELEBRATED THE CENTENNIAL? "THE SHELLY FUND" ENDOWMENT USA Field Hockey’s donors help provide for annual needs by making gifts to the UN1TED Fund. This enables USA Field Hockey to deliver quality programming and ensures that the organization can provide members the resources they need to be successful. The UN1TED Fund serves as the lifeblood of the organization and is integral in ensuring a balanced budget. ANNUAL GIVING The United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) was established on January 21, 1922, and USA Field Hockey celebrated its 100th birthday this year. The organization's goal was to raise $100,000 to commemorate this century milestone. All gifts were matched by an anonymous donor, up to $50,000. Donors of $100 or more were included in the inaugural “Century Club.” Thanks to the incredible generosity of the field hockey community, the $50,000 anonymous donor and 3STEP Sports' $100,000 gift to the Foundation Endowment, USA Field Hockey doubled the goal and raised over $205,000 in December during this month-long campaign. “100 FOR 100” FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN 1.
