When intervening in places of unspeakable beauty, feelings of
creative excitement can be intertwined with those of sadness. A

sadness caused by the transformation of a virgin landscape.
It becomes therefore paramount to capture and preserve

the essence of the site, to minimize the impact of man on the
landscape, and to allow the reality of the location to inform the

architecture in a sustainable manner.

Out of sincere consideration for the location, the villas seek to
make the landscape the main attractor of Amarantos, allowing the
various elements of the site; the soil, the rocks, the grass, the water,

to take the center stage.

beauty of the Androsian coastline.

Drawing direct inspiration from the adjacent archaeological site and
the stunning landscape, the villa is seeking to settle into its context by
inhabiting existing conditions rather than imposing its own rules on the

sensitive topography.
By using local materials and traditional techniques, the proposal grounds
itself into the existing terrain, stitching the indoor and outdoor programme

in a holistic way, by extending and augmenting the qualities that make
Amarantos unique.

THRESHOLD THAT
CONNECTS IN & OUT

Taking into consideration all the existing parameters of the site, local
history, heritage, and culture. Amarantos aims to bridge to gap between
a traditional way of living and current architectural elements in order
to create a project which is as innovative and unique as it is rooted in its
environment.
The slab, sculptural gestures, innovative techniques and materials, all
serve to create this delicate balance between tradition and modernity.

CURATING GRACE
& RAWNESS

Borrowing from the local terrace wall architecture of Andros, the walls
of the villa are not merely content with holding the landscape.
Instead, with smoothness and elegance of movement, they curve and
bend, progressively appearing and disappearing in the landscape all
whilst creating various spaces for life to happen within.
A slab is delicately placed on top of these raw, local stone elements,
excavated at specific areas to reveal the beauty of the rocks underneath
and giving an almost archeological feel to the house.
