COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
Entrepreneurship Highlights

Virtareal Sdn. Bhd. was found in 2016 by three individuals with various
experiences in game development, software engineering, and creative
content. With their expertise collectively, they have developed the
VR/AR business focusing on training simulations, virtual events,
entertainment, and educations.

In the early stages of Virtareal, they faced huge challenges as a start-up
company to promote the industry to the government, corporate sectors
as well as the public. Eventually, with the support from MDEC, MIMOS,
TPM, and other GLCs on technology transfer and entrepreneurship, the
company managed to improve and expand the business.

Focusing on business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C)
business model, they are committed to add value to their customer
needs by increasing intellectual property ownership, and developing
their R&D capability for business sustainability. Ever since the company
was established, they had made several collaborations with local and
international partners including Austria, India, Singapore, Korea, and
Germany.

Concurrent with the vision and mission of Industrial Revolution 4.0,
Virtareal Sdn. Bhd. will move forward and benefit future customers by
innovating the VR/AR technology.

The year 2018 marked history when a first-year student had an incredible idea to increase the customer
engagement of online businesses. He started developing an automation software named Vetogram where the
software increases customer engagement towards online businesses on Instagram (IG). The student then
received a Sprout Grant which was initiated by UNITEN Entrepreneurship Centre (UEC). Vetogram has improved
since then and was being contested locally and internationally. It acquired various awards such as the UNITEN
Sprout Award and was nominated as a finalist in the International ASEAN Business Plan Competition 2018. The
most memorable achievement was when Vetogram was awarded the Innovation Award in Usahawan Inovasi Piala
Menteri Pendidikan Malaysia 2019. However, Vetogram faced a marketing issue since IG changed their policy on
third party app involvement and caused Vetogram to be discontinued. The minor setback did not end the
entrepreneurial spirit but have strengthened the Bachelor of Electrical Power Engineering student to achieve
more.

He then started KT Enterprise and set-up his business team to provide technopreneurship and business start-up
training, while at the same time focusing on electrical and software engineering businesses. It was a good start
for the team when they created a smart home power management system, Tinking. In 2020, the team
participated in the Selangor Accelerator Program where Tinking ranked 28th out of 200 other startups by Selangor
Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC). Moreover, Thinking managed to be listed as Top 16
Technology Company by Gobi Accelerator Program, awarded as a winner in the Islamic Digital Economy
Accelerator Competition 2020, and managed to receive a startup credit amounting to USD 6000 from Amazon
Web Services (AWS).

Besides running the main business, as a student, he was also involved in some other projects in the power
engineering field such as developing a Smart Streetlight System and Development of Nanosatellite. The Smart
Streetlight System won the INTEL Industry-University Challenge, while the Development of Nanosatellite received
a bronze medal from the International Automation and Control Enhancing Innovation Competition (ACEIC) as well
as shortlisted as a finalist for SISWASAT Competition by Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA).

Recently he received a Layouter Award from WorldSkills Asia 2021 for Mobile Application Development in
developing Covid-19 Report Application. This is the greatest achievement after representing Malaysia for two
consecutive years in the competition.

Congratulations to Mr. Muhammad Khairi Azim Bin Kamal Ariffin for all the success. We wish you to maintain the
momentum and utmost effort to contribute more towards Industrial Revolutions 4.0 initiative. We wish KT
Enterprise all the best!

The creation of an academy to help small businesses has been the biggest turning point
in Abd Azharee Abdul Wahid's life 14 years ago when he decided to leave the Oil & Gas
industry once and for all.

Graduated with a Degree in Electronic Engineering from UNITEN and holds various
positions as a manager and business consultant, he founded Akademi Usahawan Mikro
Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysian Micro Enterprises Academy). Since the inception of the academy,
he has helped and developed more than 10,000 micro-businesses from various business
sectors through workshops and coaching. He is also active as a business mentor for
UNITEN students and other agencies such as Institut Keusahawanan Negara (INSKEN)
and Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC). Industrial Revolution 4.0
initiative has diverted the academy to focus on transforming small and mid-size
enterprise (SME) business into digitalization by developing a DIY corporate website
builder, named Digasto.com. This made him be known as the #1 SME Digital
Transformation Guru in Malaysia and frequently invited by the mainstream media such
as Bernama TV, New Straits Times, RTM, as well as Astro Awani.

His entrepreneurial journey flourished by many awards and among them are Young
Entrepreneur Awards by the Minister of Youth & Sports Malaysia in 2014, PRIDE Award
from the President of Chevron International for the achievement of his million-dollar
sales, and the Honorary Award which carries the title of STE (Assoc) by the Association of
Lecturers and Experts of the National Industrial in Malaysia (Mandate) & Ministry of
Human Resources Malaysia.

We wish STE (Assoc) Abd Azharee Abdul Wahid all the best for his future undertaking,
especially on pursuing a Master in Business Admin. May Akademi Usahawan Mikro Sdn.
Bhd move forward and benefit more entrepreneurs out there.

Life is full of surprises. It is a journey that teaches us to be better
everyday and steer us towards our destiny. This is a story of an
entrepreneurial journey of a 2nd semester Mechanical Engineering
student where she began selling when she was 15-years old. When she
assisted her family in popcorn business, it enhanced her
entrepreneurial skills tremendously.

The business had a humble origin where the product is initially
homemade. She first began selling at school, then expanded to
wedding receptions. She later than increases the production and
started supplying at convenient stores, PLUS Highway R&R which are
conveniently accessed from Senawang. Currently, she also supplies at
the campus kiosk operated by Koperasi Warga UNITEN Selangor Berhad
(KOP-UNITEN). On top of that, she also takes special orders for door
gifts for special events. There are many flavours to choose from among
which are caramel and strawberry.

We wish Ms. Nur Syamilah Bt Bistari all the best for the popcorn
business, as well as for the Mechanical Engineering course. For more
information, Ms.Syamilah can be reached through her social media.
