JEREMY STUDYING BUSINESS& MANAGEMENT (LBU) JOHN STUDYING BUSINESS& MANAGEMENT (LBU) LET'S TALK MBTI! -INTERVIEW WITH STUDENTS Based on the test, what’s your personality type? Do you agree with the results and why? What are some interesting facts that you’ve learned about yourself aftertaking this test? Do you feel that this test has helped you understand why you think and act the way you do? In your honest opinion, how accurate do you think this test was in analyzing your personality traits? Do you agree that our personality changes as we age? And would you try this test again in the future? Can you share a piece of advice forthe teenagers who are still struggling to find themselves? Using 3 words, how would you describe your personality? Quiet, Independent, Optimistic Cheerful, Shy, Independent It helped a little. I would say that I’m already aware of what my personality is, and this test has helped identify my traits clearer. It also made me question my altruism as I had to sit back and think honestly about that question, which helped me take notes and improve on a few things I’m not. This test was an eye-opener of what I would do in different situations. It helped me to be more conscious of my actions. From the test, there was one question that asked if I care about the needy. In my mind, I would help them, but in a real life situation, it would be a different story. ISTJ, I quite agree with the results because I have tried a lot of tests in the past and the outcome was similar ISTP. From the test, my introvert scale was only 3% higher than being an extrovert. And I agree with this because I can be in between. In situations where I can be extroverted with the people I’m close to, I can also be slightly closed off with new people. 85% or 90% 80%, because some questions imposed situations that I don’t think would happen to me in real life I agree that we change because we will be facing a lot of difficulties in the future. We may not know what will happen. And yes, I would be willing to take another test to see if there are any changes. I agree that our personalities can change over time. Especially when we get older, it can change us in a way that allows us to do more for the community and the people, than in the past. And definitely, I would be glad to do another test in the future. They should take this test. To help reveal who they are, how they are, or some of their personality traits. I would say begin exploring now because it will be useful for them in the future. To be honest, I can’t give you good advice. I have not fully found myself yet, I’m still not sure what I want to work in the future. So I think the best answer for me is to just go with the flow and see what happens in life. If you had read our last issue, you would know about the MBTI personality test. To dig into some of the test’s redeeming and poor qualities, we have interviewed two students who are currently studying the LBU 3+0 programme at AMC College to share their honest feedback. 1 2 3 4 5 6 P A G E 0 3 John: Jeremy: John: Jeremy: John: Jeremy: John: Jeremy: John: Jeremy: John: Jeremy:

P A G E 0 4 WEBINAR RECAP PROFESSIONAL VIEWS ON SLEEP DISORDERS & MENTAL HEALTH On 22 April 2022, Mohd. Hamizan, counselor of AMC College hosted an insightful online webinar to discuss the correlation between sleep and mental health, even academic success. The goal of the webinar was to get people thinking about the consequences led by lack of sleep and advocate realistic ways of approaching a better night’s sleep. He also uncovered some common sleep myths and interesting facts that we can learn about. DID YOU KNOW? The longest time a human being has gone without sleep is 11 days and 25 minutes. The world record was set by American 17- year-old Randy Gardner in 1963. Continued on next page

Continued on next page Decreased driving performance Poor academic performance Mood swings Avoid stimulants P A G E 0 5 CONSEQUENCES OF SLEEP DEBT Driving safely takes focus. Sleepdeprived people may suffer microsleep for a second to 30 seconds, which is risky and can cause morning car crashes. A well-rested mind performs best. Most memory consolidation happens during sleep, so it's difficult to maintain what we have learned when we are sleep deprived. Just one night of poor sleep can reduce our patience for daily tasks. In fact, It's tougher to regulate our emotions while sleep-deprived. HOW WE CAN HARNESS BETTER SLEEP "The larger the debt, the larger the damage to our mental health. " When we sleep less than what our body needs, these sleep deficits will accumulate, also known as “sleep debt”. WHAT IS SLEEP DEBT? Adenosine levels build up in the brain that actually makes us sleep. Be it caffeine or nicotine, it doesn't help fulfil any of the biological needs for sleep. You would function better if you actually got the sleep that you need rather than papering over that situation with stimulants that block the receptors. Sleep in a 90 minutes cycle Figure out what time you need to wake up and then count backwards in 90 minutes blocks to see what time you need to go to sleep. For adults, we need 7-9 hours of sleep equivalent to 5-6 cycles of 90 minutes blocks.

P A G E 0 6 HOW WE CAN HARNESS BETTER SLEEP Sleep at the right time Due to our circadian rhythm, what time we choose to go to bed can actually affect our sleep quality. The earlier part of the night is dominated by a deeper and restorative NREM sleep but towards daybreak, our body enters into a more lighted, dream-infused REM sleep. If we go to bed at 2AM, we will miss out on the deeper, restorative NREM sleep and this could lead us feeling groggy the next day. Sleep = Body and Brain rest Our brain and body systems do not shut down. In fact, some brain activity (Delta Waves) increases, as well as Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) which helps us not to pee as we sleep. It's not a big deal if we get an hour less of sleep at night Each time segment of lost sleep still accumulates as sleep debt. When a person who needs 9 hours of sleep per week gets 8 hours of sleep per night, this results to 7 hours of sleep debt in just one week. We can change our sleep requirements and schedule It is only our circadian rhythm that controls our normal sleepwake schedule. However, self-induced habits like caffeine and nicotine consumption, eating a large meal, or even exposure to blue light before bed can affect our biological clock. MYTHS ABOUT SLEEP REALITY: REALITY: REALITY: Yes but no. Making up for lost sleep on weekends unfortunately just continues the cycle. Just as the body adjusts to the earlier retiring/rising schedule by the end of the week, the body is then subjected to a latenight/sleeping in situation on the weekend. INSIGHTFUL Q+A Does sleeping in on the weekend help you “catch up on sleep”?
