What is wound care dressing?
A dressing is used to address issues such as infections and
complications.
Dressings are coverings that are in direct contact with the wound
unlike bandage which is meant to hold the dressing in place.
These serve a variety of purpose depending upon the type and
severity of wound.
It plays a major role in stopping bleeding and encouraging clotting,
which in turn encourages wound healing.

These are breathable dressings which allow moisture to be
released without restricting the oxygen supply.
These are made up of polyurethane material.
Transparent film dressings are used on partially thick wounds,

Prevents bacterial contamination by keeping the wound bed dry.
Bactigras
It is made from leno- weave cotton fabric.
Bactigras is an anti-microbial agent which fights effectively
against gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
These are mainly used in case of ulcerative wounds and minor
injuries.
It is a soft paraffin base which reduces the risk of infection.
Hydrocolloids
These are highly absorbent and contain colloidal particles
which convert into a gel-like mass.
These have a durable adhesive backing.
Hydrocolloids are mostly used in case of burns, venous
ulcers and pressure ulcers.
These provide insulation to the wound bed and encourage
autolytic debridement.
Alginates
These are composed of salts which are derived from a particular
species of sea weed.
Alginates can be either woven or non-woven and convert into
hydrophilic gel.
These are highly absorbent and can be used on infectious
wounds as well.
Treating a wound as soon as possible is necessary to avoid
further infections. One must have all the basic medical
equipment at home to attend to any emergencies till proper
medical care can be dispensed.
