INSPIRATIONAL
NEDBANK WOMEN
NETTELY GOODGALL
Nedbank Video Banking Consultant, Nettely Goodgall has faced many challenges
in life. However, a combination of faith, perseverance, a positive attitude, and an
employer that gives her the support she needs, has allowed this dynamic woman
to reach a point in her life and career where she stands as an example to all of us of
what it means to overcome your past and build a bright future. She shared some
motivational thoughts with 3Sixty as part of our Inspiring Women issue.
‘I’ve been a Nedbanker for the past three years, starting out as a call
centre agent and then moving to a position as a video banking call
agent in July 2016.
While I don’t like to dwell on the personal challenges I have faced in
my life, I have to say that joining Nedbank was one of the significant
milestones in my life. I’m a single mom and sole breadwinner, and
without the support and understanding of my managers at Nedbank,
the past three years could have been very difficult for me. Nedbank
doesn’t just speak about being understanding when it comes to the
needs of its employees, it walks the talk, accommodating your needs,
offering guidance, and giving you access to full support networks to help
you achieve your personal and professional aspirations.
If I could offer advice to any young person who may be feeling
overwhelmed by the challenges they are facing, it would be to remember
that nothing lasts forever. God won’t give you pain and suffering that
you are not able to handle. And while it may sometimes feel like there
is no way out, each of us has a purpose in life - and once you find it, the
challenges you face will seem a bit easier.’
4
JESSICA SINGH
Nedbank’s purpose is to use its financial expertise to do good. For Jessica Singh, Digital Marketing Specialist, this isn’t merely a part of a corporate brands,
it’s also a personal commitment. She shared her inspiring story of how we all can, and should, be using our position and resources to help those around us.
‘Imet Musa, a young lady from Zandspruit, during the 2015 Far North Secondary School Careerbuild project where I volunteered
as a coach. Each grade 11 student is paired with a volunteer coach and I had the privilege of being paired with Musa. Together we
mapped out her plan to complete her matric, pursue a tertiary education and then enter the world of Media. I was especially humbled
when we took Musa to the movies as a birthday treat, only to discover that it was her very first time at the movies!
Musa and I maintained contact after the programme at her school ended. Musa completed her Matric in 2016 and went on to
apply to Rosebank College to pursue a qualification in Media. I have since heard that she could not complete the year due to financial
constraints and is now looking for a job. And so the next leg of this journey begins as I am committed to seeing that Musa gets all the
support and guidance I can give her in her pursuit of a better life.
To be part of this process with Musa has been a learning experience for me. As iron sharpens iron, I believe that this partnership is
just as beneficial to me as it is to Musa.’

GOOD WOMEN
Celebrating Nedbank women who do good
In the lead-up to Women’s Month, the Women’s Forum asked Nedbankers to share their
stories about women across our bank who exemplify our purpose to do good. The response
was phenomenal and there are so many Nedbank women who are selflessly giving of their
time to mentor, coach and counsel their colleagues and support their communities.
WE INTRODUCE YOU TO TWO OF THE TOP
FIVE WINNERS OF THE NEDBANK WOMEN
WHO DO GOOD INITIATIVE. BE INSPIRED
BY THE FOLLOWING NOMINATIONS.
SLINDILE NZIMANDE (KZN)
An amazing bubbly, warm and welcoming lady. I recently joined
her team and met her for the first time. I was in awe of her
patience as she held my hand and took me through induction and
training. Slindile is a true leader and a caring coach and mentor.
Her commitment to the business and the learner was so clear as
she made me feel important and special to our business.
Her drive and encouragement has motivated and inspired
me in my new role as Compliance Officer. As a leader she is an
example of the true value of people-centredness and respect. Her
in-depth knowledge of the business must be commended and
she is a real subject matter expert. She is a true role model and I
aspire to be like my manager.’
Nominator: Babitha Ramchander
6
HELEN HARTZENBERG (EC)
‘Helen Hartzenberg epitomises the term “Imbokodo”,
which can be loosley translated as “a stone - strong
and unbreakable”.
This woman has an eye for talent. In her term as
Branch Manager many of the people she recruited as
tellers have gone on to management level. Helen is a
mother to us, a doctor when we are ill, and our coach
and mentor. Even on a personal level she has helped
me a lot in my marriage and we think of her as our
spiritual mother.
At the moment, due to the business restructure
she is sitting in the OTP pool, but she has not let this
deter or demotivate her. While we were all calling
her, expressing our sadness over her not getting a
position, she was so positive about the future and
continued to maintain that everything is in God’s
timing. Even in the face of this uncertainty, she is
pushing on, full steam, to drive Nedbank’s vision. She
has such great passion for people and business, it is
contagious.
I am who I am, the manager I am because of
her. What a pleasure it has been to serve with this
woman. ‘
Nominator: Pontsho Sauli
In the following 3Sixty editions we will
profile some more of Nedbank’s strong,
skilled and multi-talented women.

CARD COLLECTIONS TEAM
Here in Card Collections we have come up with an
initiative to make the Nedbank values more visible.
The aim is not only to remind staff of our values,
but also to encourage them to exercise them daily
– at home and work.
Each team on the floor as been assigned a
value for an entire month and for that month it
is their responsibility to make the value as visible,
memorable and exciting as possible.
The value for the month of July is Accountability
and it is represented by the ERD/Specialised Team.
We have gone all out to make this value as in-your-
face as possible by sending daily quotes; quotes/
posters around the floor to name but a few.

I would like to share from my own space how the Nedbank Values
affect me and how I practice them in my everyday functions in my role
It is important to be honest to clients when we render our services
therefore I follow the processes and procedures thought to me in order
to perform effectively and at the same time achieve client satisfaction.
My role requires me to be accountable for every interaction I have
with my clients, completing their applications till the very last follow
up. It is encouraging when clients express their happiness and in cases
where clients are sometimes not eligible for certain products we I
only be there to offer help in how to correct things to avoid future
disappointment. I show respect either in my personal or professional
space by having good behaviour, smiling, greeting and being patient.

DebiCheck
New authorised debit orders benefit
clients, businesses and banks
Around 14 million non-authenticated early debit
orders are processed in SA every month, of which
4 million are unsuccessful and 600 000 are
disputed. It’s an unsustainable situation for banks,
businesses and customers, but fortunately the
new DebiCheck system is about to start fixing it.
Debit orders are a very convenient means of payment for clients and businesses. However, in recent years the steadily rising
number of disputed debit orders has been creating significant risks for banks and their clients - both consumers and businesses.
As a result, the Payments Association of South Africa partnered with the SA banking sector to come up with a solution - and
