A letter from our

CEO
Dr. Geroldean Dyse

Welcome to Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc.
(SeMRHI) On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff, and myself,
we thank you for choosing SeMRHI as your medical home. SeMRHI’s
dedicated to community wellness! SeMRHI is dedicated to you!

The health of our communities as a whole depends on having a
place to go for primary care. Primary care is critical for identifying and treating health problems
so that people can avoid serious and preventable illnesses. Yet, today many families face barriers
to healthcare including accessibility and affordability.

The patients we serve face countless barriers to accessing consistent healthcare. Factors such
as lack of insurance, limited income, and little or no transportation options leave many working
families and entire communities with few options for care.

As a network of community health centers, Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc.,
is the solution. We have been providing affordable quality primary and preventive healthcare in
a patient centered, safe, compassionate environment for more than 40 years.

The success of SeMRHI is largely attributed to its dedication to the community and meeting
the needs of the community and meeting the needs of its patients.

About Us

Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc. was formally organized in May
1979 for the purpose of improving the health status of the residents of a predominantly
rural area of southeast Mississippi. SeMRHI received its initial operational grant from
the Public Health Service in September 1979. The organization began delivering
primary care services in 1980 at its first clinic in the Town of Sumrall, serving the
residents of Lamar and Covington Counties. Later that year, a second clinic was
opened in the Town of New Augusta, serving the residents of Perry County. The
following year, a third clinic was opened in the Town of Seminary in Covington County.

In October 1994, SeMRHI received approval for a major expansion of services to
the City of Hattiesburg through Section 330 Community Health Center funds. A
temporary facility was arranged, equipment was purchased, staff was hired and
trained, and the delivery of services began in February 1995. A 6,700 sq. ft. building
to house the Hattiesburg Family Health Center operation and the administrative
staff of the organization, was completed in May 1997. This building was owned by
the corporation with financing arranged through a local bank.

New clinic sites were added in October 1997 and July 1998 in the towns of Brooklyn
and Lumberton. State funds were awarded in 1999 through the Mississippi Qualified
Health Center Program, and SeMRHI utilized the funds to subsidize the establishment
of a dental clinic and a Social Services Department. The department started with
one full time social worker. As this service has grown, other social workers and
nurse case managers have been added to the Social Services Department.

Respectively followed by the Dental Center and Women’s Health Center in 2000,
Hattiesburg Family Health Center-Downtown was opened in 2001 and Beaumont
Family Health Center in 2002. Lillie Burney Clinic opened in August 2004 and the
Pharmacy Assistance Center opened in September 2004. The other clinics followed
close behind: November 2005, SeMRHI was approved to have a clinic in the Hattiesburg
High School. The latter part of 2006, a building was placed on the campus for the
High School and Community Clinic; Minor Care and Picayune 2007; Petal School
Clinic 2014; and, N.R. Burger 2015. With all the achievements of the clinics
