BUILDING SERVICES FUNCTIONS

Shopping malls today have become
more than a collection of stores where

consumers can purchase the latest
clothing or electronic gadgets. Many
cover millions of square feet of space
providing the consumer with shopping,
various types of entertainment, dining,
spa services and childcare. Whether
designed as a multi-story mall in a
large city anywhere in the world or as a

sprawling complex in the suburbs,
shopping malls have unique wireless

communications benefits.

Large Indoor Coverage Areas

Many of today’s shopping malls are attempting to re-brand themselves as day long
leisure experiences. The wireless communications design must take into
consideration large stores, small boutique stores, restaurants, entertainment
facilities (movies theaters, video arcades and even an amusement park) and parking
facilities. Underground parking and basements propagate RF signals well and large
open areas create opportunities for interference from macro base stations.

Capacity for Thousands of Visitors for wireless networks

Today are more shopping mall about providing data services than voice
communications. The customers were receiving emails and text messages
everywhere, including the mall. Additionally, they want to use their smart phones to
find the best possible bargain with many of us using the Internet to comparison
shop the prices at the mall with those available from online retailers.

Providing coverage for all operators, all frequency bands and
communication types

The shopping mall communication system to be designed to provide consumer wireless
coverage for all providers and all frequency bands. In addition, the system must be
designed with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, CCTV and public safety communications as integral parts
of the overall solution. The mall will have its own security forces who need to
communicate with both the mall office and the local emergency services personnel
when there is an accident or police incident.

CCTV

CCTV stands for closed-circuit television and refers to a video
surveillance system in which all circuits are closed and all elements
are directly connected. This is in contrast to broadcast television,
where the signal may be picked up by any receiver with the proper
tuning. CCTV systems can use point-to-point (P2P), point-to-
multipoint (P2MP), or wireless connections. The corporation Siemens
in Germany was the first to employ CCTV to observe rocket launches
in the 1940s. It was later installed in high-security facilities like banks,
but CCTV has become much more frequently used in recent years,
most commonly linked with security and surveillance, and its
widespread use has fueled privacy concerns in many areas of the
world.

CCTV systems gather footage with strategically placed video
cameras and broadcast it to a private network of monitors for real-
time watching or a digital video recorder (DVR) for future reference.
How to monitor many videos feeds cost-effectively is a particular
challenge for large enterprises. Video analytics (also known as video
content analysis, or VCA) can assist in automating CCTV analysis by
recognizing essential aspects such as license plates or movement
patterns, allowing surveillance to focus on potentially critical
occurrences.

CCTV can be controlled as part of a larger building management
system, allowing for the integration of other systems such as access
controls, alarms, sensors, and lights. For example, choosing separate
configurations for weekends, holidays, and night time, turning lights
on and off, documenting critical occurrences, and so on, can provide
you more control, better reactions, and more flexibility. Such systems
could be used at a variety of locations. CCTV images can be relayed
to a monitoring center or accessible on mobile devices, allowing
reactions to be directed remotely, such as police or fire department
action, or in some situations, permitting access and deactivating
alarms.

EXAMPLE OF
CCTV

Box Cameras are professional quality CCTV
security cameras that allow the user flexibility in
designing a security camera best suited for their
needs.

Hidden security cameras, which are also known as hidden
surveillance cameras, hidden spy cameras, and covert security
cameras, are the best type of camera when the goal is to monitor
people secretly. Hidden surveillance cameras are concealed in
housings to look like smoke detectors, PIR alarm motion sensors,
fire sprinklers, and other inconspicuous object

Infrared CCTV cameras have the capability to capture
video in low light and zero light areas by using built-in IR
LEDs. The IR cameras on this page are analog-CCTV
type cameras for use with 960H or D1 resolution DVRs.

58

EXAMPLE OF

CCTV

Bullet security cameras are a type video surveillance camera that
is typically small and shaped like a rifle bullet shell or lipstick case.
Smaller bullet cameras are typically the diameter of a cigar, but
they are shorter. Sometimes they are referred to as lipstick
cameras. Bullet cameras can easily mount to ceilings or walls
because most of them use a tri-axis type of mount. Not all bullet
cameras are small. Infrared bullet cameras tend to be larger in
diameter to accommodate the additional space that their IR LEDs
require. There are several types of bullet cameras on this page
including analog CCTV cameras, AHD cameras, and TVI
cameras. The AHD and TVI models are capable of 1080p HD
resolution, but require an AHD or TVI compatible surveillance
DVR.

Outdoor cameras are security devices that can capture and
record criminal activity around your home. These devices can
usually withstand extreme temperatures, and they often come
with two-way talk, night vision, and HD resolution. You’ll find both
wireless and wired outdoor camera models.

Dome cameras get their name from their dome-shaped structure.
These security cameras are designed to withstand all elements,
both inside and outside. Their construction allows for the camera
to work even in low-light or no-light settings due to the built-in
infrared LEDs.

LICENSE PLATE
RECOGNIZATION

(LPR)

60

DEFINITION OF

LPR

LPR parking technology, commonly known as license plate recognition parking
enforcement technology, allows operators to read vehicle license plates
efficiently and accurately. The information is first gathered using special
license plate recognition cameras. When this data is connected to a cloud-
based parking enforcement system, it is immediately processed. The system
will recognize whether a parked car has paid with a digital meter or an app, or
if the driver has a permit. Officers can scan hundreds of car license plates in
a short amount of time using license plate recognition (LPR) parking
enforcement equipment. Officers will no longer have to manually enter license
plate numbers into their devices. The use of digital enforcement for LPR can
save a lot of time and money.

License plate recognition technology (LPR) with a digital parking enforcement
solution can benefit all parking operators. LPR can be used to enforce in both
on- and off-street contexts by municipalities. LPR technology can be used by
universities and college campuses to check for digital parking permits in lots
and garages. Private operators, hospitals, corporate campuses, and airports
can all benefit from this technology. A cloud-based LPR parking enforcement
technology can assist operators in identifying non-compliant vehicles,
performing digital chalking, and more in any environment.

LPR technology consists of mounting hands-free, high-speed cameras on
patroller vehicles that are scanning and photograph as the patroller drives
through a property. LPR cameras capture and combine multiple images into
one single high-quality image. The photo is time and location stamped,
uploaded to a central database, and run through an optical character
recognition software that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to
determine license plate numbers.

LPR software then compares plates with an approved vehicle list, as well as a
list of vehicles with violations or restrictions. If any discrepancies are found,
patrol personnel receive instant notification on their patrol laptop prompting
them to take action. The system then documents and stores license plate
information, dates and times of infractions, and citation types.

61

HOW DOES LPR WORK

1.Two highly accurate cameras mount to the top of the enforcement
vehicle to scan parked vehicles

2.The computer system processes images and passes them through
the Passport system

3.The officer monitors various zones and reads license plates
through a tablet that houses Passport’s LPR software

4. Violations are pushed through Passport’s handheld enforcement
application for issuance

5.The officer can add notes, add photographic evidence, and print
and issue the citations

6.All data is transmitted in real-time to Passport’s back office where
parking administrators can access reports, manage their
operations, and help their customers

62

CONCLUSION

To summarise, all parts of a multi-story smart building must be included,
including a fire fighting system, telecommunication system, special service
system, electrical supply system, and mechanical ventilation and air-
conditioning system. All of these features a essential to a building where it
can provides a lot of advantages to the user and the building itself. Building
gadgets may be controlled from a single location with a smart building
system. In this scenario, the convenience aspect is significant. The ability to
combine all of the building devices through a single interface represents a
significant technological and building management advancement.

When it comes to new products and technology, flexibility is key. Smart
building technology are incredibly versatile when it comes to adopting new
gadgets, appliances, and other technologies. Furthermore, this system may
improve building security, and the most essential aspect is that energy
efficiency has increased. With the use of smart building technology, it is
feasible to make dwellings more energy efficient. Every building should have
a smart homes system in the next ten years, as the present world
necessitates a lot of technological systems as well as the construction of an
efficient building. Technology develops every day, and having a smart
building is becoming a need. Innovations were formerly linked with a high-
end lifestyle, but they have now grown into an essential component of our
daily existence.
