SILETZ BAY MUSIC FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE
OF CHOICE FOR THEIR STORIES IN “MUSIC IS
IMPORTANT TO ME BECAUSE…”
By Ms. Dana Grae Kane
Music is important to me because it unites
where other communication divides. Music
crosses cultural chasms, reducing dangerous
differences created by prejudice. Music is acces-
sible to all, regardless of financial status, educa-
tion and linguistic background, a force for peace
with worldwide scope.
Music can literally save lives. My husband,
blessed with a magnificent singing voice, de-
voted it to the spiritual music of highly disparate
faiths, donating all profits. People raised from
the depths of despair told us: “ I reached the
end, then I heard you.” What greater testament
to music could there be.
By Patty Oliver
Music is important to me because of its
unique versatility. It can be an instrument of
pleasure or healing in any locale. It has the
ability to replicate or enhance my emotions
and moods wherever I am. My sensitivity to
the rhythm and harmony of the music choices
allows me the freedom to curl up and dream, to
rise to lively new heights, or dry my tears and
smile.
