We are so excited to Chair Angels & Heroes Love You to the
Moon! Following the success of our Angels and Heroes and
Bears OH MY! Event held last year at the Toronto Zoo. We once
again present our second family-focused event.

This is an innovative and fun opportunity for our community to
come together after another challenging year. It also allows us
to celebrate our Angels – the volunteers, donors, and supporters
whose passion for our mission helped NAN thrive in 2021 and,
most importantly, to honour our Heroes – the mothers who
inspire us every day with their strength and tremendous courage.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our supporters and friends
for their generous contributions. Because of you, Nanny Angel
Network has been able to provide much-needed support to
hundreds of mothers with cancer and their kids during the
pandemic throughout the GTA, Kingston and our newly launched
Hamilton service. Your continued support means that moms
can take the time to focus on their cancer journey because
they know their kids are in safe and caring hands. Kids have an
opportunity to share their feelings and worries about their mom’s
illness with a specially trained Nanny Angel volunteer. Our Child
Life Program is crucial to the emotional development of children
grieving the loss of a healthy mom. NAN provides kids with the
coping tools and strategies they need to better understand one
of the hardest obstacles they will face in their lives. NAN is truly a
unique, one-of-a-kind service that lessens the impact of cancer
on so many families.

We are both so very proud to be a part of this life-changing
organization that has touched so many lives. We invite you to join

day of family fun and celebration as we come together to honour
the impact we have made together in the lives of so many

ABOUT
NANNY ANGEL

NETWORK

Nanny Angel Network (NAN) is a registered charitable organization that
provides free specialized in-home and virtual childcare support for the
children of mothers diagnosed with cancer. Our Nanny Angel volunteers
are a caring community of dedicated individuals who are rigorously vetted,
specially trained and certified to support families affected by a mother’s
cancer journey, meeting NAN’s high standards of passion, courage and
empathy.
IMPACT
To date Nanny Angel Network has supported over 1,700 mothers with
cancer and their children. Nanny Angel volunteers help moms feel assured
that their children are in safe, caring and qualified hands, giving them
the confidence to focus on their medical treatments, rest and recovery.
Children 16 years and under find comfort in caring and informed support,
helping them understand, cope, grieve and ultimately thrive in the face
of the overwhelming complexities associated with their mother’s cancer
journey.

NAN AND COVID-19

As an essential service, NAN provides critical support to moms
during their cancer journey. NAN responded quickly to COVID-19
in March of 2020, by addressing the ongoing needs of our families,
moving existing programs online and adding new ones to support
issues that arose due to the pandemic. As of September 2020
NAN resumed in-home support for families and volunteers who
are comfortable doing so with rigorous health and safety protocols
in place. For others who are not yet ready, NAN continues to
provide virtual support. NAN will continue to provide virtual and in-
home support to families throughout the pandemic and beyond.
In 2022, NAN provides both in-home, virtual and meal support
across the GTA, Kingston and Hamilton.

SUPPORT
PROGRAMS

In response to COVID-19 NAN developed the following new programs to support moms with
cancer and their kids.

HOMEWORK CLUB

When schools closed, NAN developed the Homework Club to provide additional virtual
support to kids struggling to keep up with their schoolwork. NAN Homework buddies provide
two hours per week of virtual support to help kids with their homework to ensure they don’t
fall behind or lose confidence. The Homework Club has become a permanent NAN program.

RONDA GREEN CAMP IN A BOX

With most summer camps closed, NAN pivoted to provide a virtual Camp in a Box program
for NAN families. Kids receive a box of fun and engaging camp activities weekly throughout
the summer. NAN virtual camp counsellors provided two hours per week of activities,
allowing kids to enjoy a great summer experience while giving moms a much-needed break.
This program was so popular it evolved to become a weekly program year-round.

MEAL SUPPORT PROGRAM

Recognizing that fear of exposure to the virus for immunocompromised moms severely
impacted their ability to grocery shop and feed their children healthy, nutritious meals, NAN
launched a Meal Support Program. NAN has provided over 25,000 meals to NAN families
during the pandemic in partnership with local catering partners. With the recommendation
of our Child Life Specialists, NAN continues to support our highest risk families with meal
support during the toughest part of their cancer journey.

MOM SUPPORT GROUP

To combat the isolation that many of our moms feel during COVID-19, NAN created a
weekly virtual Mom Support Group facilitated by our Cancer Nurse Navigator, Miriam Sweet
Goldstein. Moms get together weekly to share their struggles, support one another and stay
connected during this difficult time.

FUN-IN-A-BOX

This program is an extension of our highly successful Ronda Green Camp-in-a-Box program.
We know the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many normal childhood experiences. Our goal
is to create fun, excitement and entertainment for children and youth that is safe and socially
distanced and to provide moms with a little extra free time.

MOM COMFORT BAG

To reach mothers during the pandemic, NAN distributed Comfort Bags to twelve hospitals
and chemo centers across the GTA and Kingston. The bags are filled with items such as
a NAN branded blanket, cozy socks, headscarf, snacks, lotions and more to make their
cancer journey just a little easier. Also included is important information about Nanny Angel
Network and our special publication “How to Talk to Your Kids About Cancer.” This has been
an effective way to inform more mothers about NAN’s services, and mothers are receiving
critical information about how to talk to their kids about their illness.

PARTNER SUPPORT GROUP

The group is being created for the surviving spouse to connect with other parents who
have lost their partner due to cancer to create connections and community. Other available
support groups simply do not address the unique needs of parents of young children who
have experienced a cancer journey and the loss of a partner. This group will be led by a
social worker specializing in grief support.

PEER CONNECTIONS

Peer Connections was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the loss of
normalcy our teens have experienced. Led by our Child Life Specialist, this virtual bi-weekly
drop-in style support group gives our youth ages 12-16 a chance to connect with other youth
experiencing a parental cancer journey. We provide this vulnerable group of youth with a safe
and engaging space to connect with each other, share their experiences and teach healthy
coping skills.

A DAY OF EXPLORATION,
DISCOVERY & GRATITUDE!

In 2022, NAN is proud to present a fun-filled, family-friendly event at
the Ontario Science Centre on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022. Visitors of all
ages will be engaged with learn-through-play at one of Ontario’s most
significant cultural attractions, where NAN supporters will have the
opportunity to spend time with their families and friends. After the success
of the Angels & Heroes & Bears, Oh My! Zoo event in 2021, NAN is excited
to announce that we are continuing the family-day tradition with this year’s
Angels & Heroes Love You to the Moon! fundraising day.

Guests will have the chance to experience world-class exhibitions created
by an incredible team of scientists and educators while engaging all
family members in the celebration of our Angels – the volunteers, donors
and supporters who have given life to NAN – and our Heroes – the moms
who inspire us with their strength and incredible courage. Help us build
a legacy day free from the trauma and everyday reality of cancer for our
NAN moms and kids.

This indoor event will follow current COVID-19 public health protocols to
ensure the safety of everyone.

Let’s raise awareness for NAN and the families we support while enjoying
the company of our own.
