Arlington health insurance picked up an important court win in June when
the nation's highest court preserved the Affordable Care Act in a 7-2
ruling that slammed a lawsuit that challenged the legality of the ACA.

In the ruling, the judges stated that red-
state lawmakers didn't have standing to
challenge the law's individual mandate,
citing that there was no "Past or future
injury" related to the enforcement of the

mandate.

The only two justices to vote against the decision to preserve the
ACA were Justices Neil Gorsuch and Samuel Alito.

ACA detractors also argued that the
entire law should be struck down

since the ACA cannot and should not
be allowed to stand alone without the

mandate.

At the same time, the ACA's popularity continues to soar,
particularly among individuals and families with health
insurance in Arlington.

Per an article in Fierce Healthcare, blue-state
lawmakers countered that the rest of the law
should remain intact despite there not being a
mandate, adding that if Congress intended to
get rid of the law, then it would have done so in

the 2017 tax reform law.

Rick Thornton, an Arlington health insurance agent , said that the recent ruling was built on
the fact that federal law requires that a plaintiff has to have standing and can point to a
personal injury that is traceable to the defendant's unlawful conduct.

Since red-state detractors could
not do this, the Justices had no
choice but to vote in favor of the

ACA.
