CHAPTER 1
(INTRODUCTION)
Losing someone for a long time is not easy. That deep
longing is excruciating. The world seems to face still
once you are told. That feeling you've got never felt
before, of total sadness. You are feeling faint and dizzy
as if you're falling or dreaming. You were told this was
a visit, but you may never be prepared for it. You do
not know what to mention, and you're speechless. You
dissipate, feel dizzy, but no tears will come. You have
to urge out of there, to escape, run away, anything to
create this sense. You only don't need to believe it has
happened after everything. A part of you wants to cry
your heart out, and also the other part wants to hit
something with the anger that is raging inside you.
Nothing is going to change my love for my
grandparents. They are the only family I left. My
grandfather is everything to me. Without him, I thought
my world would become blurred. My grandfather is my
second dad, my superhero, and my strength to survive
in the world. Since I came out of this world, I have
lived with my grandparents. This is because my
parents are very busy working and always going to
outstation. So I was nurtured by my grandparents. My
grandfather's name is James William. Before he
retired, he was a former royal military pensioner. So he
knew how I felt when my parents were not with me.
CHAPTER 2
My grandfather, James, is of medium height. He is in
his early seventies but looks exceptionally young for
his age. He has a muscular body and has short grey
hair. My grandfather's face is round and friendly-
looking. He has small brown eyes and an expression
full of kindness. He tends to wear casual clothes like
jeans and tee shirts, which add to his youthful
appearance.
CHAPTER 3
I recalled my memories as well as sweet and bitter moments with
my grandfather, the various beautiful memories that have been
etched in my memory to date. One of those memories that I will
never forget when the weekend started. This weekend is the most
I look forward to because I can go out with my grandfather,
especially going to the night market. This has become a regular
activity for my family and me to visit the night market every Friday
evening after dinner. The night market is full of stalls selling fresh
products such as vegetables, fruits, meats, kinds of seafood, and
others. Besides, some stalls sold clothes, toys, shoes, food, and
all sorts of goods. My grandpa will buy everything I want. Judging
by the actions, I am grateful that God gave me a generous
grandfather.
CHAPTER 4
Besides, my grandfather was a cheerful and bubbly
person. He loves to make jokes. For instance, every
evening, my grandfather and I would go for a walk by
the beach to breathe in the cool beach breeze. And we
would sit and start making jokes to each other. We
laugh like nothing in the world can bother us.
CHAPTER 5
Next, my grandfather was a hardworking man. For instance,
my grandfather would trade nasi lemak as well as kuih muih
in front of the house every morning. We will wake up at 3 am
to cook this up-to-sell meal. I love to help him do this job
because I will also be able to learn something new and make
nasi lemak. Grandpa taught me so diligently. Although it is
sometimes decisive, my grandfather's firmness is soft. For
example, although I have failed many times in cooking
sambal, my grandfather has never been mad at me or even
reprimanded me in a good way.
CHAPTER 6
But, this is all only temporary when grandpa has been
diagnosed with cancer. Day by day, grandpa's hair is
getting more and more fallen and disappearing. With a
high level of enthusiasm, he struggled to cope with his
cancer, eager to continue his life. But God loves him
more than I love. On August 23, 2019, my grandfather
passed away. With that high spirit shown by grandpa, I
braved myself to get up and move on with my life.
CHAPTER 7
When I think back to when I was a kid, I think
about all of my wonderful childhood memories.
So often wish to go back to that part in life when
everything seemed more straightforward.
Sometimes I think about it too much, knowing I
cannot return. Yet, there is still one place I can
count on to take me back to that state of mind,
my grandparent's house and the land I love so
much. Sadly, these are all but memories I can
sculpt in memory.
