What is a Question Tag?

คือ รูปประโยคคำถามย่อ ๆ ที่ถูกนำมาต่อท้ายประโยคบอกเล่า เพื่อให้

ประโยคนั้นกลายเป็นประโยคคำถาม หรือเพื่อให้ผู้ฟังได้มีโอกาสแสดงความ

คิดเห็น ถ้าเทียบกับคำไทยก็จะเหมือนกับคำว่า “ใช่ไหม” หรือ “ไม่ใช่เหรอ

Question Tag เป็นประโยคที่มีส่วนประกอบสองส่วนคือ
Statement เป็นประโยคบอกเล่าที่ใช้แสดงความคิดเห็น
Tag เป็นประโยคคำถามส่วนหลังห้อยท้ายซึ่งใช้ถามย้ำ

Statement ประโยคบอกเล่า (Affirmative Sentence)

Tag ประโยคปฏิเสธ (Negative Sentence)

Example

You go swimming everyday, don't you? (คุณไปว่ายน้ำทุกวันไม่ใช่เหรอ)
He will go to the market, won't he? (เขาจะไปตลาดไม่ใช่เหรอ)
She had forgotten his wallet, hadn't she? (หล่อนลืมกระเป๋าเงินไม่ใช่เหรอ)

Statement ประโยคปฏิเสธ (Negative Sentence)

Tag ประโยคบอกเล่า (Affirmative Sentence)

Example

We aren't late, are we? (พวกเราไม่ได้มาสายใช่ไหม)
He won't be studying tonight, will he? (เขาจะไม่อ่านหนังสือคืนนี้ใช่ไหม)
You weren't sleeping, were you? (คุณไม่ได้หลับใช่ไหม)

are they? และ aren’t they?
do you? และ don’t you?
will she? และ won’t she?
should I? และ shouldn’t I?
can he? และ can’t he?

สังเกตว่า question tag จะเป็นการนำคำกริยาตระกูล

be/do/have หรือคำกริยาช่วย (เช่น will, should, can)

มาใช้คู่กับคำสรรพนาม (I, you, he, she, it, we, they)

โดยจะมีทั้งรูปบอกเล่าและรูปปฏิเสธ

การใช้ question tag เราจะต้องใช้คอมม่า (,)

คั่นระหว่างประโยคหลักกับ question tag เสมอ

He isn't here, is he?
(เขาไม่ได้อยู่ที่นี่ใช่ไหม)
It was raining that day, wasn't it?
(วันนั้นฝนตกไม่ใช่เหรอ)
Nobody has called for me, have they?
(ไม่มีใครโทรหาฉันใช่ไหม)
They could hear me, couldn't they?
(พวกเขาคงจะได้ยินฉันไม่ใช่เหรอ)
You won't tell anyone, will you?
(คุณจะไม่บอกใครใช่ไหม)

Question tag

1. ใช้สรรพนามใน question tag ตามประธานในประโยคหลัก

Tim is your best friend, isn’t he?
ทิมเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีที่สุดของคุณไม่ใช่เหรอ
She called you last week, didn’t she?
เธอโทรหาคุณเมื่ออาทิตย์ก่อนไม่ใช่เหรอ

2. ถ้าประโยคหลักใช้ verb to be (is, am, are, was, were) ให้ใช้

verb to be นั้นใน question tag

You are hungry, aren’t you?
คุณหิวไม่ใช่เหรอ
He was at the party, wasn’t he?
เขาอยู่ที่งานปาร์ตี้ด้วยไม่ใช่เหรอ

ยกเว้นว่า

ถ้า verb to be ที่ใช้เป็น am การใช้
I am your friend, aren’t I?
question tag รูปปฏิเสธ เราจะนิยมใช้
ฉันเป็นเพื่อนคุณไม่ใช่เหรอ
aren’t I? หรือ am I not? แต่จะไม่ใช้

3. ถ้าประโยคหลักมีคำกริยาช่วย (เช่น can, could, will, would, should)

ให้ใช้คำกริยาช่วยนั้นใน question tag

You can swim, can’t you?
คุณว่ายน้ำได้ไม่ใช่เหรอ
She will call you, won’t she?
เธอจะโทรหาคุณไม่ใช่เหรอ

รวมถึงคำกริยาช่วยใน continuous tense (is, am, are, was, were)

และ perfect tense (have, has, had) ด้วย

You are doing your homework, aren’t you?
คุณกำลังทำการบ้านของคุณอยู่ไม่ใช่เหรอ

Your dad has been there before, hasn’t he?
พ่อของคุณเคยไปที่นั่นมาก่อนไม่ใช่เหรอ

4. ถ้าประโยคหลักใช้คำกริยาทั่วไปที่ไม่ใช่ verb to be และไม่มี

คำกริยาช่วย ให้ใช้ do, does, did ใน question tag

You miss him, do you?
คุณคิดถึงเขาใช่ไหม
She went to the beach with you, didn’t she?
เธอไปทะเลกับคุณไม่ใช่เหรอ

5. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็นประโยคคำสั่งหรือประโยคขอร้อง เรามักจะใช้

will ใน question tag

Stop making noise, will you?
หยุดส่งเสียงได้ไหม
Please pay attention, will you?
กรุณาให้ความสนใจหน่อยได้ไหม

6. ถ้าประโยคหลักใช้ let’s เรามักจะใช้ shall ใน question tag

Let’s go to the canteen, shall we?
ไปโรงอาหารกันไหม

Question Tag

1. เมื่อต้องการให้ผู้ฟังแสดงความไม่เห็นด้วยเช่นเดียวกับประโยคหลัก
ประโยค Question Tag แบบนี้ จะมีประโยคหลักเป็นประโยคปฏิเสธ

และประโยคท้ายเป็นประโยคคำถามถามย้ำเพื่อความแน่ใจว่าเห็นด้วย

กับประโยคหลัก คือ Negative, Affirmative Tag?

A: Manee isn’t from Japan, is she?
(มานีไม่ได้มาจากประเทศญี่ปุ่น ใช่ไหม)
B: No, she isn’t.
(ไม่ เธอไม่ได้มาจากญี่ปุ่น)

A: John can’t play the guitar, can he?

(จอห์นไม่สามารถเล่นกีตาร์ได้ ใช่ไหม)
B: No, he can’t.
(ไม่ เขาเล่นไม่ได้)

2. เมื่อต้องการให้ผู้ฟังแสดงความเห็นด้วย
แบบที่สองนี้ใช้ถามย้ำเพื่อให้ผู้ฟังแสดงความเห็นด้วย โดยประโยคหลัก

จะเป็นประโยคบอกเล่าปกติ และประโยคหลังเป็นประโยคคำถามรูป

ปฏิเสธ คือ Statement, Negative Tag?

A: He can drive, can’t he? (เขาขับรถได้ ใช่ไหม)
B: Yes, he can. (ใช่ เขาขับได้)

A: You like him, don’t you? (คุณชอบเขา หรือว่าไม่ชอบ)
B: Yes, I do. (ใช่ ฉันชอบเขา)

การตอบคำถามของประโยค Question tag นั้น
เราจะใช้ Yes และ No เข้ามาช่วยในการตอบคำถาม

Statement ประโยคบอกเล่า (Affirmative Sentence)
Tag ประโยคปฏิเสธ (Negative Sentence)

Yes เมื่อเราเห็นด้วยกับประโยคหลัก
No เมื่อเราไม่เห็นด้วยกับประโยคหลัก

He can speak Thai, can't he? (เขาพูดภาษาไทยได้,ใช่ไหม)
Yes, he can. (ใช่ เขาพูดภาษาไทยได้)
No, he can't. (ไม่ เขาพูดภาษาไทยไม่ได้)

การตอบคำถามของประโยค Question tag นั้น
เราจะใช้ Yes และ No เข้ามาช่วยในการตอบคำถาม

Statement ประโยคปฏิเสธ (Negative Sentence)
Tag ประโยคบอกเล่า (Affirmative Sentence)

Yes เมื่อเราไม่เห็นด้วยกับประโยคหลัก
No เมื่อเราเห็นด้วยกับประโยคหลัก

You don't like dog, do you? (คุณไม่ชอบสุนัข,ใช่ไหม)
Yes, I do. (ไม่นะ ฉันชอบสุนัข)
No, I don't. (ใช่ ฉันไม่ชอบสุนัข)
