I hope you all enjoyed the end of the year festivities and set some great
resolutions for the new year. I hope one of those resolutions is to read

check out all of the exciting things happening around our hospital. We
had a terrific year in a lot of different ways and have lots going on. You
will see a variety of updates in this newsletter on our front entry project,

Scott J. Davis, FACHE It was an exciting year for our hospital with many accomplishments
Chief Executive Officer during the year. Our re-branding has been a success and we have
grown in our ER visits, surgical services, cardiac procedures, and other

highlight in this letter.

I am excited for what lies ahead in 2020. We have some great momentum. We will
have our employee forums at the end of this month, please take the time to come to
one of the sessions and stay informed. Thank you again for all you do each day to

Visitor Check-Ins

We have recently modified our visitor check-in process to ensure that our staff and
patients are as safe as possible.

All visitors are now required to provide an ID to our Security staff in order to receive
a temporary visitor’s pass for entry into the Women’s Services departments. This
process is also utilized in the Emergency Department.

Fire Alarm Strobe Light System

Have you been wondering what these red wires in the ceilings are for?

They are part of our fire alarm system. We are in the process of updating and
synchronizing our hospital’s entire fire alarm strobe light system to protect &

alert us all in the event of an emergency.

Here’s what they will look like once they are completed in February.

“This is the first hospital who has given me a warm blanket and an inflatable plastic
blanket. Seems like common sense, but most places don't do this. Also everyone was so
nice and knew what they were doing. I had been asked multiple times if I needed
anything, which I was very thankful for. They work very hard in this hospital and it shows”

Be a Hero Save a Life
AED(Automatic External Defibrillator) in Northwest

Sudden cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function in a person who may or may not have
diagnosed heart disease. Each year, sudden cardiac arrest strikes more than 400,000 people
and without intervention, less than 1% of victims survive. In fact, sudden cardiac arrest is the
leading cause of death in North America. And it can affect people of all ages--- any time and
anywhere.
• A simple Step That Saves Lives
While there’s no way to predict or prevent sudden cardiac arrest, we do know that
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation with an automatic external defibrillator
(AED) within three minutes has shown to increase the chance of survival 70%.
HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is making the commitment to saving lives and increase
chance of survival for people who have sudden cardiac arrest. We now have an AED placed
in South Lobby accessable to the public and staff at any time for an emergency.

If the AED is used, please contact House Supervisor so that we
may follow-up and replace materials used in the resuscitation effort.

Note: As with any emergency device, please be reminded that tampering with such a unit
may result in disciplinary action for the person involved.
*Many thanks for your participation in this important Heart Safe initiative in our hospital.
