Welcome!

Colleagues,

Scott J. Davis, FACHE I am excited to release our 1st Quarter 2021 edition of our “In the Know
Chief Executive Officer with the CEO newsletter.” This edition continues to detail all of the great
things that are happening at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest. Please
take some time to review all of the exciting things happening at our
hospital.

This newsletter will highlight the completion of our construction in the front
of the hospital and safety/security updates throughout the hospital in
making HCA Northwest a better place for our employees, our physicians,
our patients, our visitors, and our community.

You will also see the details of our terrific Nurses Week and Hospital Week
activities we have planned for everyone. It will be a great time to
celebrate together in a safe and fun way! Please check out all the plans
and join us for the festivities!

This newsletter will also focus on all the actions we have taken in response
to your feedback from the last employee engagement survey and details
on benefits and other important items to you all as employees. We also
have updates on our patient experience and quality initiatives. I am
extremely proud of the quality care we have provided in our organization,
especially given the acuity of the COVID-19 disease. We have saved
many lives that were expected to pass away with their conditions.

COVID-19 Update

• Census – we have maintained a census in the 20s over the last couple months and even
into the teens this week. Thank you for your efforts in managing this census with our
great work with discharges. Please listen to my call each Monday at 4:30 pm to stay
updated on our numbers.

• Screening process – we are implementing self-screening for our employees, please
reference the presentation sent out on 4/26 to review how it works.

• Resources - we are continuing to add staffing resources from a nursing and physician
perspective to help with our volumes.

• Volume – we are reviewing our cardiac and surgery schedule each day to try and alleviate
volume pressure on our hospital staff and still accommodate procedures when necessary.
We have also closed our hospital to transfers on many occasions due to our census to
help provide some relief to all of us. We will continue this practice to help manage our
census as we recruit additional colleagues to our organization.

• Vaccine – our friends and family vaccine clinic has been a great success, we have
vaccinated almost 2,000 friends and family. We still have Pfizer vaccine for any
employees that haven’t been vaccinated as well.

Hand Hygiene Campaign 2021

Have you sanitized your hands?
Do you feel uncomfortable speaking with your
colleagues about hand hygiene? If you find
reminding someone to perform hand hygiene try
this on your units as a reminder.
If you witness a colleague not performing hand
hygiene just simply speak to this causally by
saying, Hi Gene. The person’s name obviously is
not Gene, but it triggers them to remember to
perform hand HYGIENE. Pass the message on! It’s
an easy way to remind your peers without
embarrassing them in front of others.
