DESCRIPTIVE TEXT Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing. Description is about sensory experience—how something looks, sounds, tastes. Mostly it is about visual experience, but description also deals with other kinds of perception. There are some generic structures (actually not mandatory) for descriptive text. The arrangement are: 1. Identification: (contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be described.) 2. Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describe. Purpose of Descriptive text 1. To describe person, thing or place in specific 2. To describe a particular person, thing or place. Language Feature of Descriptive Text. 1. Specific participant: has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). for example: Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Jim 2. The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in Jepara, etc. 3. The use ofsimple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of the object described. 4. Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc….


DESCRIBING YOUR FAMILY A : Alex, I’ve never met your family do you have a big family? B : Yes, I do. I have two twin brothers, and a sister, a niece, a brother-in-law. And there are my mother and my father. A : Tell me about your mom. Do you look like her? B : Not at all. She isshort and pumps, has short brown hair and big blue eyes. She is really beautiful. A : what is she like? B : She is kind and supportive and always gives us very good advice. She is always there for us. She lovers flowers and is obsessed with gardening and being outdoors. TALKING ABOUT YOUR FAMILY IN ENGLISH Hi, welcome to my home. My name is Paul. I am 12 years old and this is my beautiful family. There are six people in my family: my mom, mu dad, my two sisters, my younger brother and me. This is my sister Olivia, who is 10. She is in the fourth grade. She loves reading. Her favorite school subject is English. This is my younger brother, Oliver, who is 7. He is in the 1st grade. He loves playing games with his spinning top. He never seems to have enough. This is my youngest sister, Lucy, who has just turned 4. She is in kindergarten and loves playing with her dolls. We get along very well and love each other very much, but well…, sometimes, we have our fights and arguments, too. We usually make up soon afterwards. My mom is a nurse and she works in hospital. She is so kind and compassionate, and she always takes good care of the sick people. When she gets home, she always helps us with our homework. My mom is an excellent cook and she loves to bake delicious cakes. My dad is a photographer. He travels pretty often with his job, to make great pictures in different places. He he turns home from his travel, he tries to spend as much time as possible with us and we have a lot of fun together. On weekends, we sometimes go on bike rides together. This is my uncle, my mom’s brother. His name is Simon. He and my dad are brother-in-law. My dad doesn’t have any siblings. This is my aunt. She is my uncle’s wife. Her name is Grace. They have two kids, a 3 year old daughter named Lizzy and a newborn son. They are my cousins. This is my grandma. We are celebrating her birthday. She is turning 55. Now she has six grandchildren: three grandsons and three granddaughters. She and my grandpa are farmers and they live on a big farm in the countryside. She loves feeding her animals and taking cre of them. She also enjoys working in the garden. She has many fruits and vegetables. We love spanding our vacation on her fam. She has so many wonderful tales to tell us all the time. My grandpa is 60 and he is pretty energic and really hardworking. He wakes up very early in the morning every day. There are always something to do in the farm and my grandpa is always busy. He is very funny. He tells us many great jokes and


makes us laugh so much. There are many grandparents on my mother’s side. My grandparents on my father’s side live in a different country, very far away from us, in a big city. They live in a fourroom apartment on the third floor. They are retired, so they usually go on lots of camper van trips. They enjoy spending as much time as possible in nature.
