Camp Courant’s
16th Annual Buddy Bash

Greetings Friends,

Finally-we have a new pool! Over the course of the last 64 years, we have
witnessed thousands of happy campers enjoy a refreshing dip on a hot
summer day. We have watched campers apprehensively approach the
water’s edge, afraid to get in, only to master the backstroke in a few short
weeks. We have listened to countless stories from our alumni as they fondly
reminisce about their favorite camp activity-cooling off in the pool.
Unfortunately, we have also witnessed cracked tiles, leaky pipes and a
decaying infrastructure. After more than half a century of amazing
memories (and rising maintenance costs), it was time to ‘bid farewell’ to our
beloved pool.
Of course, we ‘bid farewell’ in the only way that Camp Courant knows how-
by watching the eyes of our campers widen with awe and delight as they ran
towards the bright and shiny new pool, ready to jump in and make a splash.
Over 1,000 of Hartford’s kids had the opportunity to experience the pool
this summer, and for the first time in 122 years, that included ALL of our
campers. The upgrades included a handicap accessible ramp and
bathrooms, a paved pathway, and expanded changing facilities. Now,
campers of ALL abilities can fondly look back upon their camp experience
and reminisce about chilling in the pool on a hot, humid day.
Tonight, at our 16th annual Buddy Bash Celebration, we honor those that
have made these upgrades a reality. We honor those that are dedicated to
supporting an exciting, educational and robust youth-development
experience for thousands of Hartford’s kids, summer after summer. Tonight,
our staff, board, community supporters and alumni come together to say
‘thank you’ to Dan Moore and Lego Community Fund U.S. for all that they
have done for our campers. Because of their commitment, over 1,000 of
Hartford’s young people experienced the summer of a lifetime.
Whether you are a Buddy Bash veteran or this is your first camp experience,
I can promise you that you are in for a fantastic evening of lavish hors
d’oeuvres, delicious brews, great entertainment and exciting silent auction
items. Thanks in part to your support, Hartford’s Camp Courant will have
the ability to provide enriching programs such as yoga, financial literacy,
healthy choices, arts & crafts and nature not just next summer, but hopefully
for another 122 summers and beyond.

On behalf of Hartford’s kids, thank you so much
for your kindness and generosity. Enjoy the
evening….please just don’t jump in the pool.

some memorable stops along the way.

Jim began his career at NBC as a member

After NBC, Jim joined the staff of the ABC
Newsmagazine 20/20 where, as an
Associate Producer, he spent eight years
traveling the country for some of the

The on-camera bug bit him a few years
ago and Jim landed his first full-time on-
air job at WAMI-TV, Miami as a reporter
for the critically-acclaimed South Beach
News Magazine “The Times.” He also
hosted the “Mervyn’s Beach Bash,” a nationally televised extreme sports
program shot in Los Angeles.

In 2005, Jim joined Fox 61 News and has covered most major news events
in the state since then, in addition to his weekly travel segment

Jenn Bernstein-FOX 61
ANCHOR/POLITICAL REPORTER

Jenn Bernstein anchors the FOX 61 News at
4:00 P.M. She also reports on Connecticut
politics and co-anchors “The Real Story” with
Al Terzi, which airs at 10:00 A.M. on Sundays.
In 2015, Jenn won an Emmy award for her
story “Anatomy of An Attack Ad”, which
analyzed campaign messages during
Connecticut’s contentious gubernatorial contest.

Jenn re-joined the FOX 61 team in August of
2014. The Simsbury native worked as a
general assignment reporter for the station
from 2010-2012. During that time, Jenn
received an Emmy nomination for a series of
stories she did on bullying in schools. She also
found herself covering severe weather events
in her two years. She reported live during the Blizzard of 2010. In 2011,
Jenn reported from the beach in Fairfield when Tropical Storm Irene hit
Connecticut. Two months later, she was live on the Berlin Turnpike as the
October Nor’Easter slammed the state, knocking out power to almost
900,000 homes in Connecticut. Jenn also focused on politics, which included
covering the 2010 campaign for Governor where Democrat Dan Malloy
faced off against Republican Tom Foley. During this time, she was also an
Adjunct Graduate Journalism Professor at Quinnipiac University.

Jenn continued her reporting career at KYW-the CBS affiliate in
Philadelphia from 2012-2014. While there, she reported on the aftermath
of the Penn State Sex Abuse Scandal. She also hunkered down in Atlantic
City to cover preparations for Hurricane Sandy. The day the storm made
landfall, she provided live reports from the beach, for KYW and WCBS in
New York City, as waves pounded Steel Pier and catastrophic flooding put
much of the city under water. Over the next few weeks, she covered
Sandy’s devastation. Escorted by The National Guard, Jenn reported from
Long Beach Island on the clean-up efforts. She did several live reports for
CBS This Morning. Her work also aired on CBS affiliates around the country.

Before her time in Connecticut and Philadelphia, Jenn worked in the Buffalo
and Albany television markets.

She attended Union College in Schenectady, New York.

Jenn grew up in Simsbury and is a graduate of Simsbury High School.
