Sin and Redemption:

How to be Born Again

From the beginning of time, God had a perfect and wonderful
design for the world and humanity. And God saw everything that
he had made, and behold, it was very good…. (Gen 1:31) In fact,
God’s design included perfect harmony with Him. So God
created man in his own image, in the image of God he created
him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed
them… (Gen 1:27-28).

However, this union with God was broken when man sinned and
disobeyed God’s commands. And the LORD God commanded the
man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not
eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.(Gen 2:16-

17). …she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her
husband who was with her, and he ate. (Gen 3:6) Not only did
this cause separation between God and humanity, but it started
destructive patterns that can be seen throughout human
history. But your iniquities have built barriers between you and
your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He
does not hear.(Isaiah 59:2)

While this may sound harsh, it is important to understand the
character of God. His most defining attribute is that He is holy.
…Who is like You—majestic in holiness, revered with praises,
performing wonders? (Ex 15:11) Because God is holy, our sins
(whether individual or collective) separate us from being able to
have perfect fellowship with Him. Your eyes are too pure to look
upon evil, and You cannot tolerate wrongdoing...(Hab 1:13a)

All sin is wrong. Whether it be the mass murders of the
Holocaust or the little “white” lie about the cookie jar. Sin
breaks God’s standard and requirement of holiness. Since (our)
sin leaves us in a desperate place apart from God, what is the
solution? For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
(Romans 3:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

In the same way God is holy, He is also good, loving and
merciful. God designed a plan of redemption to reconnect us
with Himself. But God shows His love for us in that while we were

still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Jesus Christ is the answer! Jesus came to earth to fulfil God’s
requirement of holiness and pay the punishment for sin.

But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a
woman, born under the law, 5. to redeem those under the law,
that we might receive our adoption as sons (Gal 4:4-5)

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the
unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body
but made alive in the Spirit (1 Pet 3:18).

God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in
Him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Cor 5:21)

So, what does it take to be a part of God’s plan to reunite you
with Him? Just like any gift…it must be received for the
transaction to be complete. The Bible explains how to accept
the gift of God’s Salvation through Jesus Christ.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in
your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be
saved…”(Romans 10:9-10)

“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be
saved.” (Romans 10:13)

New Life in Christ

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old
things have passed away; behold, all things are new.” (2
Corinthians 5:17)

We are born again as children of God into a new life in Christ
Jesus. We are spirit, as God is spirit, and our new spirit is what
that new life is. We are reborn complete and perfect in Christ
Jesus in an instant, but our minds and bodies are not made new
in that moment.

“That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man
which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be
renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new
man which was created according to God, in true righteousness
and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Your new life in Christ is a new motive or goal for every decision
you make, and God does not control your decisions. He simply
shows you the path that leads to you growing up into His nature
and character.

“He is the image of the invisible God.” (Colossians 1:15) “For I
have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to
you.” (John 13:15) “Therefore, be imitators of God as beloved
children.” (Ephesians 5:1)

Jesus showed us God’s ways and demonstrated His love for us.

As you renew your mind to follow His example, you are learning
how His kingdom works, which is in conflict to how the world
works.

“If we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son
cleanses us of from all sin.” (1 John 1:7) If we confess our sins, He
is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 4:9)

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation to those who are in
Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but
according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1)

God’s mercy is abundant for those who are learning to walk in His
ways, and His love never fails.

The Holy Spirit: Our Helper &

Empowerment

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead (Father, Son,
Holy Spirit). He is the gift and promise of God to every believer.
He was present at the creation of the world. He is the same Spirit

that caused Jesus to be conceived. The Holy Spirit came upon
Jesus when He was baptized and empowered Him to do miracles,
signs, and wonders. Jesus was raised from the dead by the Holy
Spirit after He was buried for three days. He also draws our hearts
to God by convicting us of our sins. He now lives inside of those
who are born again and empowers us to live pleasing to God and
to continue Jesus’ ministry.

How does He Help Us?

-Teaches and reminds us of what Jesus taught (John 14:26)

-Convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement, and
guides us into all truth (John 16:8, 13)

-Gives us power to be witnesses to Jesus (Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4)

-Empowers us with supernatural signs and gifts to help others
and to do the same miraculous deeds that Jesus did (1
Corinthians 12:1-10, John 14:12)

-Produces good character and fruit in our lives (Galatians: 5:22-
23)

What is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?

When we are born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us
to make us new creations. However, there is an additional
encounter called the baptism in the Holy Spirit that brings power
to live a life pleasing to God and to be powerful witnesses of
Jesus. When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we are fully

immersed and empowered by His presence. One of the first signs
of this is the ability to speak in tongues or other languages just
like the first followers of Jesus in the Bible. This ability helps us to
pray to God in a powerful and intimate way as the Holy Spirit
prays through us ( Jude 1:20). To be baptized in the Holy Spirit,
simply express to God the desire to be consumed by His Holy
Spirit and then receive by faith just as you received salvation. This
promise is for all believers, not just a few people. It is God’s
pleasure to give to all who ask.

Healing from All Sickness and

Disease

“Surely He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. Yet we
considered Him stricken, smitten by God. But He was wounded for
our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the
chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we
are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5

The above verse explains the purpose & redemptive
accomplishment of the life and blood of Jesus Christ. On our
behalf, He was beaten and crucified for all sin and all its
consequences. Furthermore, His resurrection from death sealed
His victory over sin, death, hell, sickness, and all the works of the
devil. Sickness and disease are works of the devil, not works of
God. God is the giver of life and healing. He desires for every
person to walk in complete health every day of our lives.

Through Jesus’ sacrifice, God provided healing for every kind of
sickness, disease, injury, and mental and emotional trauma. It has
already been accomplished for us. Now, we simply put our faith in
what God’s love did for us and receive it! Every Christian has the
right to be free of sickness and has been entrusted with power
and the responsibility to set others free others from sickness.
Sickness and disease should never be tolerated.

The Bible Teaches Christians to:

-Believe in the supreme authority of God’s word (Psalm 119:89)

-Trust the redemptive work of Christ for divine healing (1 Peter
2:24)

-Exercise the authority of Jesus Christ over sickness and disease
(Matthew 28:18)

-Enforce God’s will of healing in the life of every person (Matthew
6:10)

-Rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to achieve the results (Acts
10:38)

-Lay our hands on the sick in order to transfer God’s power (Mark
16:16-18)

-Command sickness to leave (Mark 11:22-24)

-Believe that all things are possible and never accept defeat
(Mark 9:23)
