eacher’s Day has always been one of the highlights in SSC. From the iconic
costume parades to the full-blown class parties, Cahayans go all out when it
comes to celebrating our teachers. This year was a little different. As everyone
was stuck at home, we tried our first virtual celebration.
The celebration started with a speech from Dr. Jeffrey who also recited a poem
showing his command of Bahasa Melayu. Then, our beloved Mr. Fazli officiated the
event with a speech, followed by a song.
As usual, the event started with an introductory video about Teacher’s Day. A
video created by our Prefectorial Board followed. Adapting fast to the new method of
celebrating, they managed to think of a way to thank our teachers. And that is truly
praiseworthy.
More videos were played, including one where our students recorded
themselves complimenting teachers during class. The teachers’ reactions were
extraordinary, to say the least.
Our school’s superstar, Yap Qie, then graced us with her spectacular vocals in
the song “You Are The Reason”. Following her stellar performance, more videos were
played.
As good as the other performances were, the most special one had to be the
teachers’ choir. Who could’ve known, that the familiar voices that scolded us
every day could resonate so sweetly!
A poem was then recited by our students, marking the end of the event. Despite
some technical difficulties, the event was a blast. There’s no doubt that this was quite
a memorable Teachers’ Day celebration!

our public speaking activities remotely during our assemblies. Both the Bahasa
Melayu and English departments are now conducting this activity. It started off
with speeches in English by Florence Boh and Danial Umar from 2 Radiant. The following
week there were speeches both in Bahasa Melayu and English. This activity will be carried
out during the next few assemblies. Hopefully, it makes a dent in the public speaking
abilities of our students and encourages more to participate.

his was a letter sent by our Campus Principal, Dr Jeffery, to all students to get feedback
on online lessons from the students themselves. In it, he stated that all information
gathered would be processed to identify improvements that can be made.
As a result of the pandemic and with schools closing, we had to turn to e- learning as
a last resort. Recently, our school carried out an online survey about the school. All senior
school students were asked to complete the survey and we did too. This survey gave the students
an opportunity to give some feedback about the school, especially about how to make online
classes better. Though the survey did not take more than five minutes, we feel that it would
be useful as a means of improving remote learning.
As the school is trying to improve for our sakes, we too must continuously grow and
improve and learn to cope with online classes no matter how tedious they are.
