Our Mission

Breakthrough San Francisco supports young people on the path to college
and trains outstanding college students for education careers. Founded in 1993,
we’re a community involvement initiative of SF Day School, and one of two
dozen national affiliates of Breakthrough Collaborative.

Supporting Students on the Path to College

233 MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMMING (5-8TH GRADE)

STUDENTS IN GRADES 5 - 12 • 6-week in-person program in summer 2022 included academic
ADMITTED AS 4TH GRADERS FROM UNDER- classes in math, science, literature, and writing, as well as elective classes,
community building, and special events
RESOURCED ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN
SAN FRANCISCO • 90% daily attendance rate; 87% of students felt better prepared
for the upcoming school year

• monthly in-person workshops supporting students’ success in
high school and college and career readiness

• comprehensive college admissions support including personal
statement support, presentations from admissions officers, financial aid
counseling, and ACT/SAT prep

Breakthrough enjoys diversified revenue streams and sound fiscal management.
At the end of FY2022, Breakthrough held $602,492 in reserve funds and $2.7M in endowment funds.
