The totem explores the design question between the alternative patternmaking
of Kindness Wood and its potential uses and applications. The particular
pattern of Kindness Wood used in the piece is made from wood offcuts and
scraps from the wood flooring factory line, compounded by hand, inspired by
techniques of terrazzo-making. The totem is ironically designed to bring about
a sense of spiritual stone common in Chinese-Buddhist temples domesticated
into décor of our homes.
