The Greenway Forest Written by: Zoey Miller
Hello, my name is June. I have been in my apartment for the day and was getting bored after hours of staying in, since it’s my day off. I decided that I would go the the old park named Greenway Park. But, something extraordinary happened on my little trip there.
The park had a few trail marks and had few trees in the main park. I would call it a dog park or a playground that has no playground equipment for the children to play on. I got out of my bed, put some new clothes on, and I wore a crop top with a red and black pattern with a red lightning symbol in the middle. It was something from my favorite band, The Glamrocks. And I trotted my way out of my apartment. I had my black headphones, my Iphone, and locked the door behind me when I was out of the apartment.
I walked out of my old apartment building that is 4 stories high and walked to Greenway Park. The Greenway Park is across from my apartment building, then I to Greenway park. I went on the main trail of the Park when I came to the Greenway Forest Park. I put on my headphones, turned on my favorite song “Make Believe,” and continued on my small walk for the evening. I knew I’d be back to my apartment when it was dinner time, I would just get food from Mcdonalds that’s nearby. Then I’d go back home.
It has been 20 to 30 minutes and I came along the trail to the real Greenway Forest. I checked the clock on my phone and it was 3:49 PM. Then I looked back at the trail with the sign at the entrance of the forest saying “Greenway Forest Trail” and listed a few things like “Stay on the trail, or take a map, so you don’t get lost.” The little basket next to the sign would usually have a map of the whole forest, but it was empty. Luckily, I have a map on my phone, so if I were to get lost, I would call 911 or find my way back to the trail with the map. Welcome to Greenway Forest! Grab a map to start your adventure here!
The forest was huge. “I guess I could go for a walk there, I said to myself. “I don’t need to be home just yet anyways.”. Then after a few seconds, I walked into the Greenway Forest on the trail It has now been 20 minutes since I walked into the forest. Then I took off my headphones to listen to the summer sounds of nature and turned off my phone. And put it in my red short’s right pocket, and continued walking deeper into the forest.
I saw a tree, it looked like a dark oak tree. I sat down in front of the tree and put my headphones back on with calming music, and accidentally went to sleep. A couple of hours went by, almost 3 to 4 hours. I couldn’t remember. And I woke up. It was 7:49 PM when I woke from my little slumber. I checked my phone and saw what the time was, “It’s 7:49 PM,” I paused. “It’s 7:49 PM?! How long did I sleep for?” I exclaimed. So the Mcdonalds probably isn’t open, but it is a 24/7 one. “I should get going,” I paused for a moment. “Mcdonalds probably will close in an hour or two, it is Saturday. And they close at 9 PM. I gotta go now” I said to myself. lllllllllllllllllll 7:49 PM
When I was getting up, I heard a sound coming from a few bushes in front of me. I looked over to my right and saw nothing. Then I scanned my surroundings, after a moment, I saw an orange tip of an animal tail. I was confused because there aren’t many animals here. I also couldn’t really see it, it was darker because of the trees hiding the sun from their dark green, umbrella-like leaves . Then I heard more rustling from the bushes, they are berry bushes.
My breathing became shaky and fast. Then I fell backwards while walking away from it, then I yelped. There was a sharp twig underneath me. But then, I saw yellow and blue glowing eyes shining through the bushes a bit. My heart started to race a bit. The thing that has been there for who knows how long finally knows that I am there with it. I heard a few twigs breaking, the animal, or creature, was walking backwards away from me.
Then the animal jumped over the bushes and looked locked in eye contact. It was a wolf. He had yellow fur, his under belly was a lighter shade of yellow and his paws were orange. Like he was wearing orange socks, with some mud on them. And the tip of his tail was orange. He had an ocean blue eye color for his right eye and a golden yellow eye color for his left eye. He has a large scar over his left eye.
He growled and stepped closer to me. I was afraid, my heart started to race more and my breathing went fast like I ran a marathon. I thought he was gonna kill me and rip me to shreds. I then yelled, “Go away!” I couldn’t believe what I did. He growled and barked loud at me, he took another step forward. But, then after a few moments of me yelling and shouting at him to go away and do not hurt me. He ran off to his right.
My heart started to slow down from him leaving, my breathing slowed down as well. I was shaking still, I got a bit curious and got up, wiped the dirt off my shorts, and followed the yellow wolf secretly.
Half an hour passed by, and the yellow wolf went into a cave that had a few lanterns lit up like yellow balls of fire. Like someone was living there, I ducked behind a bush that was a few feet from the cave. There were rocks of all sizes and had moss on them. There were many beautiful flowers and plants in Greenway Forest. But none were compared to the ones by the cave. There was a small pond by the cave with a small stream. There were trees by the cave, some white birch and some oak trees and had vines all over them. The grass was tall and waved like green hair in some spots.
I was in disbelief, because this part of the forest wasn’t even on maps of any kind! It was extraordinary, very extraordinary. It felt like I’ve entered a beautiful fantasy realm that no one knew of except me. Sorry, couldn’t find what you were looking for
But still in my city that I’ve known, my whole life.
