story

Listen

Once there was a dog named Mike
who lived in a village. Mike was very
greedy and did not like to share anything
with his friends. One day, as Mike was
roaming, he came across a bone. He
thought, “Today is my lucky day. I got
this bone. But if I go back to the village,
my friends will ask me to share it with
them.” So, Mike went into a nearby

forest to eat the bone.

On the way, he was going on a
bridge when he saw his reflection in
the water. Thinking it to be another
dog, Mike thought, “If I bark at that
dog, I will get that bone too.” But
as soon as he barked, the bone in his
mouth fell into the water and now

Mike had nothing to eat.

moral

special feature

We all love to hear music, don’t we?
The very first songs we learn are the
rhymes we hear our parents and teachers
sing to us. What is the most popular
rhyme that all of us know? It is ‘Twinkle
twinkle little star’. The words of the
rhyme come from the poem The Star,
written by an English poet, Jane Taylor

in the year 1806.

The original poem had 5 stanzas
(paragraphs) but only the first stanza
is widely known and used. Today, the
rhyme is sung in many languages. Isn’t
it amazing that a poem so old is still so

popular today?

Find out the rest of the
stanzas of the rhyme (ask
your parents to help you).

June 2018 The tune of the rhyme is
the same as the tune of the
Alphabet song (ABCD…)

and the rhyme, ‘Baa Baa

• Kakapo, also known as owl parrot or night
parrot, is the only parrot that cannot fly.
• It is found only in New Zealand.
• Kakapos are nocturnal birds, being most
active at night.
• They are herbivores. They eat roots, seed,
leaves and small pine cones.
• They are among the longest-living birds.
They can live up to 60 years.
