prayer and thinking
of others.

It is the ninth month
of the Muslim year.
It begins with the
new moon.

Many people set out
lanterns during this
time.

They hang them in
windows. They place
them on tables.

In A.D. 609, the
prophet Muhammad
began writing a book.

The Quran is God’s word to Muslims.

Some people repeat
the whole Quran
during Ramadan.

From sunrise to
sunset, people do
not eat or drink.

dates and drink water.
