At WRMSDC, we believe that no family should face hunger, violence, and poverty. Yet, in America, 24% of Native Americans, 21% of African Americans, and 17% of Latinos live in high-poverty neighborhoods compared to 4% of the Caucasian population¹. For African Americans, one in five are living in poverty for the third generation in a row, compared to one in one hundred Caucasian Americans². The typical African American family has $24,000 of wealth, the typical Hispanic family $36,000, and other families (Asian, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, mixed races, and other races) $74,000, compared to $188,000 for the typical Caucasian family³ . This relentless cycle of poverty is the legacy of centuries of racism and exploitation of communities of color 4 . To address these racial gaps, WRMSDC works to support people of color who have founded their own companies to make a better life for themselves and their families. We help them gain the funding, education, and connections essential to feeding their families, supporting their communities, and building intergenerational wealth.
