PRAKATA
KETUA JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN MEKANIKAL

Assalamualaikum dan Salam Sejahtera.
Bersyukur saya ke hadrat llahi atas kurnia dan izinNya, maka
Buku MECHANICAL PROJECT EXHIBITION (MPE) SESI
DISEMBER 2020 berjaya dihasilkan. Penghasilan buku ini
adalah sebagai medium mempamerkan hasil projek pelajar
semester akhir. Dengan bertemakan IR4.0 dan Renewable
Energy, buku ini bukan sahaja memberi peluang kepada
pelajar berkongsi hasil projek yang telah diusahakan selama dua semester, malah
dapat memberi motivasi dan galakkan kepada pelajar lain untuk menceburi bidang
rekaan dan inovasi.

Dengan terhasilnya buku ini, diharapkan dapat menjadi pencetus idea bagi pelajar-
pelajar lain dalam menggilap bakat baru disamping membentuk keperibadian, sahsiah
dan kemahiran komunikasi yang tinggi dalam kalangan pelajar Jabatan Kejuruteraan
Mekanikal khususnya dan Politeknik Mukah secara amnya.

Setinggi-tinggi penghargaan dan tahniah saya rakamkan kepada Unit Penyelidikan,

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF SAGO TREE TRUNK

This project entitled “A Prototype of Sago Tree Trunk Splitter” is
fabricated to design a prototype of Sago Trunk Splitter. This project is focusing on the
process of cutting the tree trunk of a sago tree. Cutting the tree trunk with only just
using an axe is highly risky. This can cause a minor injury to the worker if they do not
cut the tree trunk in the right way. A problem that often faced by the worker is they
need a lot of manpower and easily get tired if they do it continuously. The purpose of
this project is to make the cutting process easier. The sago tree trunk will be placed
inside the prototype machine. After that, the tree trunk will be pushed by the
hydraulic press to the blade so the tree trunk will be splitted, the ejector shaft will
help us to push the sago tree trunk so that the entire length of the sago tree trunk can
be split directly to the blade. The scope of this project is to maintain the safety of the
worker in the industries by creating the sago tree trunk splitter in a prototype form.
In the form of this prototype, Hydraulic press plays an important role of the force that
is used to press the tree trunk so it can be splitted. This machine was created to solve
the problem of the workers who is tired of cutting the tree trunk with only just using
an axe.

THE BANANA SEEDLING ISOLATE DEVICE

The project is titled “The Banana Seedling Isolate Device” which was
created to isolate banana tree seedlings easily as well as reduce manpower
consumption. This project focuses on farmers to make their daily work easier and save
their daily time when doing agricultural work. Isolating seedlings manually is also
encouraged but farmers are now getting older to do their daily work. The problem
that often occurs is that it takes a lot of time when doing work and farmers are prone
to back pain when doing work for farmers who are old. The purpose of this project is
to suggest a way to isolate banana tree seedlings easily and save more time. A good
area to use in a small farm or backyard crops. This produces banana tree seedlings
with a lot of not using much time.

In this modern era, technology brings a remarkable advancement in every field
of life, whether its industry or agriculture. Our lives are essentially dependent on
agriculture development. In big cities, people facing problem in their homegrown
garden regarding the maintenance and availability of proper gardeners. This project
was created in prototype form. We created a “Smart Indoor Plan Monitoring System”
is design to make sure we easily to monitor plant accurately. This project also focused
on those who love to gardening but does not have enough time to monitoring the
plants. As we known, to gardening the areas must large and open areas such as
hydroponic. The problem in this question is that we know the soil moisture, pH soil
and lighting that suitable the certain plant. The main purpose of this project is to
design something newer to saving space, not fully monitoring plant and the plant are
monitoring by the sensor that detect the pH soil, soil moisture and lighting even in
indoor. The scope of this project is used the sensor to monitor the plant accurately and
can save the data by monthly. In this form of prototype Arduino Uno microcontroller
play as important role of the system control and sensors. The LCD Display and water
sprinkler will work as soon the pH soil and moisture connected automatically. In
short, this product was created to solve the problem and the programming of Arduino
Uno microcontroller will make the user easily to monitor their plant accurately but
does not have enough time to monitoring the plants.

FRUIT FLY ZAPPER

This project entitled Fruit Fly Zapper is specially designed for users who
had a problem or suffer because of the fruit flies that damaged cause losses such as
crop yields quickly deteriorate before ripening to be picked and sold or eaten. The
Fruit Fly Trap is also designed using solar panels as well as batteries and solar panel
to generate the electricity to kill or shock the fruit flies after getting trapped inside.
This trap also designed just for outside the home area like farm, we had set the
material are used is heat resistance and waterproof to ensure the good quality of the
trap is also our priority. This Fruit Fly Zapper is also equipped with an automatic
sensor device in the LED light called photovoltaic in a light-intensive position to
generate and flow the electric current from battery at night and also to the light the
Fruit Fly Zapper at night. This because for the main electricity is coming from the solar
panel during the daylight to recharge the battery and also to kill the flies(1:1) and
using battery at night as a main power source to flow the electricity at the wire mesh
and light the LED(2:1). Apart from killing and reducing the population of the fruit flies
that cause losses, Fruit Fly Zapper is also designed eco-friendly or based on the theme
chosen “Green Technology” because this trap is free from chemicals that can harm the
environment especially in terms of selection of bait use to attract fruit flies entering
the trap. Lastly, with a lightweight selection of materials, the Fruit Fly Trap is also
designed to be easy to carry anywhere and for the cleaning process since the body
part is waterproof. Fruit Fly Zapper also can be used for long term without have to
change often or buy the new one.

CLOTH DRYING MACHINE WITH IOT

The title of this project “PORTABLE CLOTH DRYING WITH IOT” is made to
help students when they want to dry clothes during the rainy season. This machine
can facilitate the user in drying clothes. When the weather is good or hot, people
often dry their clothes outside the house so that their clothes are exposed to the sun
and dry. But, when the rainy season arrives, the clothes will be hard to dry. If wet
clothes are not dried quickly or left wet for a few days, it will cause an unpleasant
odour on the clothes so that the user is not comfortable to wear them. Therefore, we
develop a project to solve the problem, our project was created to facilitate the
drying of consumer clothes. Our products are very suitable for use by students who
are on campus or dormitory, especially during the rainy season. Therefore, we state
our project is very suitable for many users especially students. Besides, this project
has four main design requirements to be fulfilled. The first design requirement is
user friendly with IoT switch to control the cloth drying anytime and anywhere. The
second design requirement is energy saving with automatic IOT humidity,
temperature and wetness control sensors system to monitor the drying process.
Third design requirement is adopting an environment friendly green technology
with solar energy to turn the fan. The fourth design requirement is to increase the
output by adding hot blower to increase the efficiency of drying process.

PLASTIC EXTRUSION MACHINE

Plastics produced and used by the human beings eventually end up in the
nature causing harm to living beings and the environment. The amount of plastics
recycled than the plastics produced is very much less and the requirement of plastic
recycling and upcycling is now an essential task. This project is about the design and
fabrication process of plastic extrusion machines which address the plastic recycling.
This small table shop extruder is just a small step in recycling the huge plastics
products. The small table top plastic extrusion is designed. The initial design consists
of different components like hopper, screw, barrel, die, and motor system. The plastic
pellets are fed through hopper which are moved forward using the rotating screw
driven by suitable sized motor. The friction between the pellets and barrel surface
along with the external heat given by the band heaters melt the plastic pellets and
pump through the die. If the temperature is not enough then the product is not good
and fine as expected and the melt get pasted in the barrel and when the different type
of plastic pellets is used in extrusion it result in the mixture of two types of plastic. So ,
temperature maintenance is very important. This prototype is designed in such a way
that any people interested to make plastic extrusion machines can follow the
procedure mentioned in this report.

AIRCOND CLEANER KITS

Projek ini bertajuk “Aircond Cleaner Kits” yang dicipta untuk membantu
pengguna penghawa dingin dalam proses mencuci penghawa dingin mereka sama
ada di rumah ataupun di pejabat. Seperti yang kita tahu, ‘service’ penghawa dingin
yang sedia ada sebelum ini memerlukan kos yang tinggi. Hal ini kerana pengguna
penghawa dingin tersebut perlu membayar kepada pihak yang menyelenggara
penghawa dingin mereka. Selain itu, penyediaan alatan untuk mencuci penghawa
dingin juga mengambil masa yang lama, kerana penyediaannya adalah satu per satu
seperti ‘host pipe’, bahan alkali, dan sebagainya. Seterusnya, “Aircond Cleaner Kits”
ini direka dengan reka bentuk yang sederhana dan hal ini menyebabkan projek ini
menjimatkan ruang. Dalam Kit itu juga terdapat peralatan-peralatan yang perlu
digunakan untuk mencuci penghawa dingin seperti ‘host pipe’, bahan alkali, penyapu
kecil, air secukupnya, dan canvas. Dengan adanya Kit ini pengguna penghawa dingin
dapat menjimatkan masa dalam penyediaan alatan untuk mencuci penghawa dingin
dan juga Kit ini menjimatkan kos. Maka, dapat diketahui projek ini bertujuan untuk
membantu pengguna penghawa dingin dalam proses mencuci penghawa dingin
mereka dan juga dapat menjimatkan masa.

SALTED FISH DRYER

Automation is an automatically functioning part or process of a machine to
lessen the need of human touch to the processes. It is both to lower the chances of
dangerous accidents to prevent cases of accidents that claim lives and to produce a
consistent quality end-product. Automation can be found in many types of industries
such as food making/ processing, material design, network, material assembly and
many more of works done in factory or industry. Our project are decided upon the
problem of drying fishes faced by local residents and small industries involving
drying fish process. The project is entitled Salted Fish Dryer and designed to solve
the problem of the traditional way of drying fish. The characteristics of pre-existing
drying machines are studied to determine the existing working principle and the
variable part of machine that can be change for the best deal for local small
industries and residents. The Salted Fish Dryer will be designed with an aim for
green-friendly product.

A project that design in the Inventor software. this design is simulated to
see how its function and its analysis. the purpose pf this project is to redesign the
existing wheelbarrow where it can help the user to lift their load efficiently. the
simulation will show how it motion and analysis will show load that can lift by the
wheelbarrow. This project will less the human energy usage where less effort needed
to lift the load. plus this also help the user with ergonomic concept where can
prevent back pain.

AUTOMATIC TOUCHLESS HAND SANITIZER DISPENSER

A problem that often concerned by the premises owner or worker is they do
not know the exact time to refill the tank of hand
sanitizer dispenser as the tank of hand sanitizer need a visual inspection to
check the hand sanitizer liquid in the tank. Visual inspection on the tank of
hand sanitizer dispenser is a task that require one to two or more time to
refill the tank when it is empty. This task should be eliminated to ease the
person in charge to refill the tank. In this report, we propose to build an automatic
hand sanitizer dispenser with notification system, which alert the person in charge to
refill the tank of empty hand sanitizer dispenser when the bottle of hand sanitizer is
empty. The primary aim of this project is to learn in details about how the notification
system works on the automatic hand sanitizer dispenser and the concepts involved.
The secondary aim is to fabricate the automatic hand sanitizer dispenser to show how
the notification system works. In conclusion, based on the analysis data, the discussion
and the results that have been carried out can

This research is carried out to design a shoe dryer for students in
Polytechnic Mukah Sarawak. As we know shoes are part of student’s life. Students
faced problem to dry their shoes during rainy days. In Polytechnic Mukah, there are
not such a machine for drying their shoes. Students need a laundry for their shoes
too, however most of the existing shoe dryer are really expensive. After researching,
we making an innovation for the shoe dryer that already exist to increase its
efficiency. This Coin Shoe Dryer use the coin acceptor so this Coin Shoe Dryer can be
used as a kiosk so students can use it by turn. The advantage for this Coin Shoe Dryer
using the coin acceptor is it can run a business. Other than that, the Coin Shoe Dryer
method used also being upgraded to show more efficiency or better results. As the
result that we showed in output data, this Coin Shoe Dryer can help to dry shoes and
also functioning well.

ADJUSTABLE SHOVEL

The present invention provides users with a fully adjustable shovel to move
different quantities of debris, dirt, snow, and the like. The invention comprises a blade
that can be expanded in length and width. The invention affords the user with a shovel
device that can be adjusted to different sizes in order to accommodate various tasks
and materials.

Engine Generating Wheelbarrow is a project implemented to solve
problems in construction and agricultural works. The idea was obtained after looking
at the process of lifting bricks and cement done by construction workers. The problem
identified is that a lot of manpower is used in each job that uses the tool. The existence
of this project, can facilitate the work of lifting and moving a load from one place to
another without using a lot of manpower. This project is expected to renew and
update the method of lifting and moving goods. Its use is very effective for moving
heavy loads without using a lot of human labor. The project meets the drastic
consumer needs in both the local and international markets, especially in the
construction industry. In addition, it can simplify work and save energy.

RF CONTROLLED LAWNMOWER PROCESS

This project entitled “Remote Frequency Control Lawnmower” is fabricated
to design a lawnmower that can be controlled by using remote frequency controller.
This project is focusing on the problem most of lawnmower today operates manually
where human needs to control the machine directly in grass cutting activities. This
requires a lot of energy if the area was too wide. The available lawn mower today
uses petrol to operate the engine, this can contribute air pollution. The Remote
Frequency Lawnmower is a machine to make cutting grass process easier. The
lawnmower's movement will be controlled using RF remote control, where the
transmitter circuit will be placed at the remote control while the receiver circuit will
be placed at the lawnmower. The signal will be transfer from the remote control to
the lawnmower by the antenna (joystick) and the signal transfer is using radio
frequency signal (RF). RF is quite effective in long distance and the components are
cheap and easy to get in the market. In this project, transmitter and receiver circuit is
built to control the movement of the lawn mower, motor, and the rotation of the
blade. H-Bridge connection is used in the circuit to control the lawnmower's
movement whether to be slow or fast. There are two types of motor used in this
project and both of it is dc motor.

For working couple and housewife, it is hard to find time to have laundry
day where the clothes is dried through the whole day because the weather can change
from sunny to rainy days. This projects use an Arduino System to install all program
that will give instructions to conduct this system properly. This part needs AC Motor
to convert electrical power into mechanical power for retrieve-in the clothes rack.
Rain Sensor that will be use to sense when it begins to rain outside by detecting rain
water from moisture impedance sensor locate at the rod.

This “design and analysis of sago tree trunk splitter machine” project was a
concept to split the sago tree trunk into smaller piece. A one meter long sago tree
trunk that has been placed in this machine will be pushed with a hydraulic cylinder
until it splits by blade. The most critical part in this machine is to design and select the
best material for the blade. Catia software was used to estimate the displacement and
stress on design and material.

SAGO MACHINE FILTER

Sago was originally made from generation according to tradition, in the
process of making sago there consists of steps. Among the steps we chose was the
process of sago filtering until it became round. The tool that has been created to filter
sago seeds is ‘Gaah’. ‘Gaah’ is a special tool woven using nipah tree leaves. After that,
the roll will produce a round-shaped dough through the existing holes. For large-scale
business, the sago factory has created a special machine for sifting. This machine was
once created specifically for large industries such as sago factories. And this machine
is called Automatic Sago Tapioca Ball. This machine can make pearl tapioca, it can also
make taro balls, batter balls, starch, tangyuan and other small size balls. Automatic
Sagu Tapioca Ball makes machine Made from SS 304, easy to clean. The advantage of
this machine has a capacity of 30-50kg / hour & 50-100kg / hour. The power
generated by this machine is 50W & 700W and 1280 × 740 × 1080mm size for this
machine. With that, we want to create a sago seed filtering machine for small traders
and for local residents. Project entitled ‘MACHINE FILTER SAGO’. We will use two
types of moto namely dc moto with 24 volts with low speed 0.1 rpm to 2000 rpm to
make this machine run with flow. to build the frame of this machine. And also, we will
use aluminum to make this machine design. Design by adding wire and some steel to
hold the wire used as a filter for this sago. And this filter will be made with 2 shapes.
These filters will be built in two different sizes. The first is small in size with 0.04mm
and the other is large in size with 0.09mm. For the width of this filter frame is 2m × 4
and the length of this filter frame is 3m × 4.

Automation is the technology by which a process or procedure is performed
without human assistance. Automation or automatic control is the use of various
control systems for operating equipment such as machinery, processes in factories,
boilers and heat-treating ovens, switching on telephone networks, steering and
stabilization of ships, aircraft and other applications and vehicles with minimal or
reduced human intervention. Some processes have been completely automated. Our
project entitled AUTOMATIC HAND SANITIZER is design to make the process of
dispensing with automation features. This project is focused on the automation
system that area widely used in nowadays. The Wi-Fi connectivity and automatic
refiller are add in this product so that to improve the existing product on nowadays
market. In order to solve problem where Pandemic Covid-19 was worried everyone,
we have designed and improved an automatic machine that will make everyone will
always keep in hygiene besides to being able to comply with Standard Operating
Procedures (SOP) that have been set by the government. The automatic hand sanitizer
will be powered by four systems that is Arduino systems, Wi-Fi receiver, automatic
refiller and infrared sensors for experiencing an automation features.

ANALYSIS DESIGN AUTOMATION OF MACHINE

This project is entitled '' design of saw machine automation'' which was
created to further facilitate cutting work and produce high quality workmanship.
Because there are many accidents that could not be avoided while operating the
machine before. In addition, many workers complain of back pain when removing the
bark. In addition, the quality of work is relatively low because it holds the cutting to
move unstable. Therefore this machine has a system (Arduino Uno) that will operate
the machine to further facilitate the work of cutting or removing the skin . This
''design of saw machine automation'' system is in line with the latest era (IR4.0) which
is getting hotter and hotter at this time . This '' design of saw automation machine''
system is based on Arduino Uno and sensors that detect the presence of wood ( sago
tree) and send waves to the Arduino to process the wood ( sago tree) to be removed.
Two cutters that will move simultaneously to save more time when cutting . Finally
this machine is also made to improve the safety of workers.

MULTI PURPOSE LOCKER

The use of lockers to store various items such as clothes, books and even
important items is no stranger. Most lockers today do not use a simple and
sophisticated system such as RFID. In fact, none of the lockers have the feature to
disinfect using Ultraviolet light. Our project titled Multi-Purpose Locker is to redesign
the previous locker by adding RFID system and Ultraviolet lamp as a bacterial
disinfectant. The project will be focused on students, every final exam arrives,
students should leave their stuff outside the examination hall. This is of concern to the
students, as the probability of their stuff being stolen is very high. To solve this
problem, we have designed a system using RFID lockers to improve the security at the
same time there is an ultraviolet lamp inside to help disinfect. As we know now, our
country is at war with the covid-19 pandemic. The use of Ultraviolet lamps has
brought a thousand and one benefits where it can help disinfect viruses when students
leave or store their stuff in lockers.

SMART MAILBOX

The use of mailbox is no stranger in Malaysia and around the world.
However, there are some mailbox that do not have detector in the mailbox and make it
difficult to the owner. This has caused concern among the households. So, we placed
and built in a device that could solve the problem. This project was created in
prototype form. This "smart mail detector" project was created to ensure that each
household are in a good condition easy for the owners to get notify. The objective of
this project is to change a normal mailbox with functions to facilitate users. The
problem that we try to solve is to placed a device inside the mailbox that normally
hanging outside of the house. The main purpose of this project is to fix every
household mailbox that using manual method weather the owner must check the
mailbox every single time that there thing about the envelopes in it. We find a way to
create a simple way for every household especially for domestic mailbox. In the form
of this prototype Arduino Uno plays an important role of the system to control all
systems. In short, it will help each owner of the house to get notify with the device that
connected with the WIFI and solar that generate current to the battery and directly to
the device to turn it on.

FABRICATION OF HYBRID POLYMER COMPOSITE USING SAGO AND JUTE SACKS AS REINFORCEMENT
MATERIALS

Composite are structural materials made up of two or more materials such
that each component remains separate on microscopic level within the finished
material, but for which the composite properties are superior to those of the
individual component materials alone. The term “hybrid composites” represents a
composite having at least two different types of fibres reinforced in the single matrix,
or blends of polymer mechanical properties. The purpose of this study was to
fabricate a sago fibre composites and sago fibre reinforced with white sacks as car
door panel. Ansys Software is used for structure testing for each of these specimens.
The software will show the structure strengths either is it strong enough to be a good
material or not. The purpose also is to reduce the use of plastic by using a hybrid
polymer composite and also to utilize waste like sago fibre and white sacks to be made
into something useful. In conclusion, this project will provide a good material to be a
car door panel. Hence, the environment also will be better in the future.

This project entitled ‘PROTOTYPE FERTIGATION SYSTEM WITH IOT’ is
fabricated to help gardeners or florist save energy and time to manage their flower
crops. This project is focusing on the problem of the quantity of crops that require a
lot of water. The approach to solve the problem is to make a prototype such as
fertigation system but this project will improve the system ever made. This system is
made to help a small -scale gardeners who has a large quantity of flowers. Every day,
most florists will segregate crop care such as fertilizer application is one time while
watering is one time. But this simple fertigation can help save them time because
fertilizer and water are mixed once. This fertigation system will make their work more
innovative and effective and at the same time the florists will be able to follow the
current technology in agriculture while making their crops grow fast, always fresh and
able to produce lucrative.
