Dear Jeff - Shalom Ubracha,
I am delighted to have the opportunity to join with the Young Israel
community in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Rabbi Naphtali
Burnstein’s tenure as your spiritual leader.
In the several instances where we have had to work together, I have
found Rabbi Burnstein to be an understanding and responsible colleague.
Your Rabbi is to be commended for two and a half decades of
devoted leadership in meeting the needs and challenges of your vibrant
congregation. In these rapidly changing times the role of the Rabbi
as pastoral counselor, community leader and Torah educator is quite
daunting.
Iris and my entire family wish all of you both as individuals and as a
functioning organization continued well-being and success.
With gratitude to Hashem, just having completed our thirty fourth year
here in Jerusalem, capital of the sovereign Jewish state of Israel we
extend the following Blessing to all of you:

To the Young Israel Tribute Committee:

Rabbi Naftali Burnstein, with Rachel at his side, has served as
a model of honor and integrity in his service to the Young
Israel community and the Cleveland Jewish community in
general. Both with reference to technical issues of Hora’ah,
such as Gitten and Kashrut, and the broader pastoral issues
of personal outreach, Rabbi Burnstein has reset the standards
for Rabbinical professionalism and idealistic commitment in
Cleveland.

The Young Israel Community has greatly benefitted from this
leadership. In my years as Rav of Green Road Synagogue, I
had the opportunity to work with Rabbi Burnstein on many
projects and was able to witness first hand this integrity,
seriousness of purpose, and sensitivity.

We often spent considerable time discussing and attempting
to resolve issues of importance. My fondest wishes and
prayers to Hakadosh Baruch Hu that he be granted years of
blessing and strength to continue his Avodat HaKodesh.

It is beautiful and appropriate for the Bnei HaKehilla to recognize, express Hakaras
HaTov and pay tribute to their beloved Rav!
Rabbi Burnstein is your spiritual leader in the building of your "Mikdash M'at", and
is shepherding his flock in the ways of the Torah, Halacha, Derech Eretz and Aliya.
One page won't suffice to encompass the exceptional and unique qualities of Rabbi
Burnstein in his Kehilla and in the Cleveland Kehilla at large. But L'Chvodo we will
try...
Rabbi Burnstein is a Talmid Chacham, a Moreh Horaah, a Dayan, a Posek, a leader, a
zariz, a builder, a thinker, a creator, an achiever, an educator, a promoter of peace
and harmony.
He is sharp, brilliant, wise, quick, warm, caring, charismatic, relatable, personable,
involved, communal, humble, refined, sweet, humorous, growing, youthful and goal
oriented, to mention a few...
"Niba VeLo Yoda Ma Niba". When the Kehilla crowned their new Rav 25 years ago, they
didn't yet know what a blessing they got and what a treasure they acquired.
May Hashem bless Rabbi Burnstein and his Rebbetzin together with his Kehilla for
many more years of Bracha, Hatzlacha, Aliya, Siyata D'Shmaya and Kol Tuv in good
health and Harchava, "L'Maan Yaarich Yamim Al Mamlachto". And may he lead his
Kehilla together with all Am Yisrael towards Mashiyach speedily in our days, Amein.

To my dear friends in the Young Israel of Greater Cleveland:
The Gemara (Horiyos 10a) teaches us that Rabban Gammliel wanted to appoint
Rav Elazar Chismah and Rav Yochanan ben Gudgada as the official leaders of
their generation. However, when he sent for them, they did not come. Rabban
Gammliel then sent for them a second time. This time they came. He said to
them, “you apparently did not respond at first because you thought that I was
offering you honors and deference. I know that you are modest and do not wish
tributes and kavod. Therefore, be aware, it is avdus – the burden of communal
service which I am offering you.” And thereupon, the great rabbis agreed to
serve.
Rabbi Burnstein, too, is a modest, self-effacing man whose very essence is
serving his congregation – and Klal Yisrael – a position he has held with
distinction in Cleveland for a quarter of a century. He, together with his
Rebbetzin, are the absolute embodiment of what Rav Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg
writes (“Liferakim,” page 292), “the role of a rabbi is not just to be a teacher of
Torah in all its varied forms, but to be a living symbol of its vitality and eternal
relevance.” Through his shiurim, drashos, which I have been privileged to hear
upon my occasional visits, and courageous communal leadership, he has indeed
proven to be the consummate Rav.
Ashreichem! The community is fortunate is to have him. May you continue in
this wonderful shidduch until the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu Bimeheirah
B’yameinu amein.

Rabbi Burnstein is a revered Rov and Talmud chochom
who leads his Kehila as a real manhig b’Yisroel.
An accomplished Marbitz Torah, Rabbi Burnstein
gives multiple shiurim. Additionally, his involvement
() in Kashrus are just a few of Rabbi Burnstein’s many
contributions to our community.

Imbuing his Kehilla and everyone he meets with a love
for Torah, and yiras shomayim, Rabbi Burnstein has
raised the bar of Ruchnius in Cleveland and the
surrounding vicinity.

We are fortunate to have Rabbi Burnstein in our midst
and have benefited significantly from Rabbi Burnstein’s
valued accomplishments.

We wish the Rov much success and  to continue his
avodas hakodesh for many years to come.

It gives me great pleasure to participate in this well deserved honor for
Rabbi and Mrs. Burnstein. Rabbi and Mrs. Burnstein are tremendous assets to our community.
Be it in kashrus, sholom bayis, teaching Torah, or many other endeavors, they have made an
indelible mark on the Jewish community of Cleveland.

I have known Rabbi Burnstein personally for almost fifty years, beginning with our days
attending Yeshivas Ner Yisroel together, and his accomplishments come as no surprise. I
treasure his friendship and I enjoy working and consulting with him.

My brocha to Rabbi and Mrs. Burnstein is that Hashem should grant them
continued strength and success in their avodas hakodesh and may they be zocheh to reap much
