Biodata of Dato’ Onn Jaafar was born on the 12th
Dato’ Onn of February 1895 at Bukit Gambir. His
Jaafar father Datuk Jaafar bin Haji
Muhammad was the first Menteri Besar
Johor. Growing up, he had 7 brothers
including him and 7 sisters. Being the
third child in the family meant it came
with a lot of responsibilities.

Dato’ Onn Jaafar had 10
children. Six of which he had with his
wife Datin Halimah Binti Husain, the love
of his life, whom he had spent all his
time with till his final breath.

Dato’ Onn Jaafar’s
Educational Journey

His educational journey started at
Sekolah Melayu Johor Bahru. It then
continued with him moving to England
to attend Aldeburg Lodge, a private
school for six years. After that, he
made a decision to return back to
Malaya, his homeland, to continue his
studies at Maktab Melayu Kuala
Kangsar.

Dato’ Onn Jaafar’s Career

o During his time in UMNO he was appointed as the
Menteri Besar of Johor in 1946.

oHe worked a few jobs in the government before
joining politics.

oHe also worked in Singapore for a short period of
time. He had ran many small business while he was
there. For example, selling food items like keropok.

Contributions Dato’ Onn Jaafar Made

Dato’ Onn Jaafar was a man who made many contributions to
his society and the people of Malaysia. For instance he was the
founder of one of the most prominent political parties in
Malaysia which is the United Malays National Organisation also
known as UMNO.

As a result of his contributions, he was named after several
different buildings across Malaysia as an honour. For example,
Menara Dato' Onn, the UMNO general headquarters in Kuala
Lumpur.

amazing leader who stood by all
his principles and made
remarkable changes as a leader.
He encouraged people to be
more inclusive and united. He was
an intelligent man with many
revolutionary ideas. We as a
nation should be inspired by him.
